Here's Katie! What the First Promo for Couric's Daytime Talk Show Reveals

The first promo for Katie, the new daytime talker fronted by veteran news reporter Katie Couric, is making rounds, and the No. 1 takeaway would appear to be that, gosh darn it, she is brighter than the sun.

As seen in this 30-second teaser, the onetime Today cohost is all smiles and sunshine as she interacts with a veritable cornucopia of women and rugrats, and even a pooch for good measure.

You’ll also learn that if you bump into her in Central Park, she’ll gladly pose with you for a cell phone snapshot, and maybe even row you across the lake. (Girl’s apparently been working her triceps kickbacks!) And if you’re gonna chill with her over a tall, cold daytime beverage, it appears that Couric is partial to a diet cola or maybe iced tea. (The video evidence is inconclusive.) Oh, and she likes flowers!

As for her stilted sign-off at the end, why does it sound like the Simpsons episode where a TV interview with Homer got sliced-and-diced?

Couric’s talker, which is cleared to air in 95 percent of the United States and on mostly ABC affiliates, premieres Sept. 10.

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

I believe that she and Oprah are the most overrated tv personalities to date..I only liked Katie with Matt on Today, but never solo. Shrugs.

  2. april-ann says:

I have always loved Katie. Smart, smart, smart. Refreshing to watch. She rocks any morning show or nighttime special. But no, I won’t be watching. The daytime market is saturated with talk/information/lifestyle/trash talk/”reality”/whatever shows. Their time has passed, they have beyond peaked, plus there are cable channels for all of that nonsense. No way will I watch this on network daytime tv where my soaps belong. Not for one second.

  3. matthew c says:

Is she taking over the 2pm slot from “The Revolution” or getting the 3pm slot filled by GH? Is GH moving to 2pm?

  4. Lunakit says:

Her logotype is a direct rip from Oprah a few seasons ago. Similar (if not the same) font, dappled sunlight and even a hint of “O” in the swoosh. Jeesh… #logofail

  5. Keenan says:

Um…. Felt a little too much like an ad for tampons or something….

  6. Kiki says:

Ugh no thanks. There are too many daytime talk shows as it is and Katie’s personality is far to grating. Bring the soaps back ASAP.

  7. Mizz O says:

Have never watched a show that has replaced a soap, even if I did’t watch that particular show. Solidarity with my fellow soap fans!

  8. Mike says:

“Join. Me. For…Katie! My new. Daytime talk show. Beginning September tenth.”

  9. Miffy says:

Daytime soap fans: you need a reality check. There simply aren’t enough people watching daytime TV to make scripted television profitable in those time periods. Soaps are alive and well…in other time periods, where more people watch. Look at Revenge, Dallas, etc.

General Hospital will be gone as soon as ABC can develop a replacement for it. And Days of Our Lives will be gone after its contract with NBC is up, in 2013. The ratings are simply minuscule. That genre is done.

  10. No disrespect to Katie whatsoever, but this is not a show that I intend to watch. The way the cancellation of AMC and OLTL was handled, I refuse to watch yet another daytime talk show. The networks say what people want is more information, more real life things, but during this process of shuffling things around did any of them bother to actually ask daytime fans what they really want? I doubt most of them would say more talk shows. GH is around for now, but how much longer will that last once Katie premieres? Something to think about.

  11. Bobbi says:

Cannot stand Katie Couric and never have been able to. Definitely will not be watching.

  12. Tony says:

Can’t wait to watch this crash and burn. If you want people to watch a show you need to find someone who has a great personality not someone who has the personalityand looks of Gerconeknocken.

  13. says:

“Katie” is a syndicated show, and not directly an ABC Daytime show. ABC’s Owned and Operated stations like in LA and San Francisco are required to air the show at 3PM. The network is giving back an hour of programming to affiliates; thus, this means one-less hour of airtime for the ABC Network across the country. ABC will be deciding next season (spring 2013) if it will be GH or another show at the last remaining daytime hour. “Katie” may be seen on other channels — non-ABC affiliates — in the rest of the country.

If ever there was a promo that was carefully crafted to create a negative response…
