Shocker: Starz Cancels Spartacus, Upcoming Third Season Will Be Last

Spartacus CancelledIn a surprising move, Starz is pulling the plug on Spartacus after the upcoming third season.

The final chapter, to be titled Spartacus: War of the Damned, will air in January 2013.

RELATED | Look Who’s Joining Spartacus’ Final Season!

“Starz always does the unexpected,” Sparty’s creator, Steven S. DeKnight, told IGN. “This show has been challenged, to say the least, in many, many ways. We’ve faced many difficulties and tragedies on the show. My original plan was to attack the show in a five- to seven-season arc. Once we got into it and after Andy [Whitfield]’s passing and looking at the historical story of Spartacus, we came to the decision to basically end on a high note.

“We certainly could have continued for a few more seasons and stretched it out, but we really wanted to end high and not feel like we were treading water – and really just condense the rest of the history into one amazing ten-episode, badass final season,” he continued. “You know, the whole show was a huge risk from the start for Starz, and it was another huge risk when I decided to try to keep the show going after Andy’s passing. Any normal studio would have just cancelled the show at that point and not risk the financial downside of it not working. But Starz, thankfully, really stuck by the show, and they really wanted it to be told all the way to the end. They didn’t want to cheat the viewers and just suddenly pull the plug. So they gave us this opportunity to wrap up the story, and we’re certainly taking that opportunity and running with it. This is by far the biggest season we’ve ever attempted.”

War of the Damned will center on the final battle between Spartacus and Marcus Crassus. “It is very much Crassus along with the aid of Caesar going after Spartacus,” DeKnight previously told TVLine. “The scope of it multiplies many times as Crassus battles Spartacus across the country.”

I was JUST about to start watching this. I bought the first season’s DVD two days ago and was planning on watching it this weekend. Now I’m not sure :S.

    • AJ says:

      @t.t – It’s still a good show. Just because it’s ending doesn’t mean you shouldn’t watch it.

      • crixus says:

exactly i watch this show all of the time and never grow tired of it i cant wait for the third season war of the damned to come out i have all of the seasons on dvd watch them all in order and it makes good sense what there trying to tell you

        • Roy Rodgers says:

Just a small correction… It’s the forth season not third!

          • Meba says:

No, it’s actually the third season. “Gods Of The Arena” was actually a prologue explaining how Crixus became a gladiator and isn’t technically a season, but a prequel.

          • rjh555 says:

Well you are right about them releasing a total of 4 seasons of the show the second season you are referring to is technically not part of the original show its a prequel because of the ongoing struggle Andy whitfield was going through and wasn’t meant to happen, it goes seasons 1,prequel, 2,and now season 3 and it will be the last one wrapping up everything they were going to tell in future seasons they would have done if it wasn’t for stars pulling the plug but at least they are giving us one more for closer most networks wouldn’t even do that.

          • as says:

Not to split hairs, but, I’m glad it didn’t get cancelled by the network but rather the creator’s idea to shut it down. I’m not sure the author of this artice knows the difference. It’s the difference of you walking away or someone else dumping you. Big Difference.

          • nomorehumans says:

doesnt the article say starz pulled the plug?

        • dee-dee says:

I really love this show and I can’t believe it’s ending. If they just have to loose Spartacus character, even though hes doing great im sure they could continue a new season with gannicus as the bringer of PAIN. i think the whole cast is great and i would love to see the show continue

        • curly says:

this is ridiculous starz can afford to continue Spartacus can be added to can do religious aspect can show romans in the period what was going on at time of Spartacus political etc you could added a renegade force that the romans hired to go after Spartacus there is so much that can be done fans will love it watch buy all dvd

      • Ker says:

Yep, definitely, this show is not one to miss, if you like things along the lines of game of thrones and 300 etc. you will love this! I can’t wait to see how they wrap it all up.

        • tubun dasgupta says:

game of thrones is mainly based upon politics, where spartacus contains, love, passion, feelings, emotion, devotion also, above all a complete presentation, i ave seen everything, all eps lots of time…. its magical …..

          • Ritu says:

It really is all that you say! It is/ was truly magical! Gratitude for putting it so eloquently!

    • Brooke says:

Why not? I haven’t watched it, but I would be more inclined to knowing that it comes to a complete ending. Some shows, especially British ones, are short and sweet and have a satisfying beginning, middle and end. Having fewer episodes or fewer seasons is not always a negative thing.

      • Sina says:

Exactly! I’d much rather watch a shorter series with a proper story and ending, than a series that drags on and on and then suddenly gets cancelled because the viewers gave up.

    • wrstlgirl says:

You will truly be doing yourself a horrible disservice if you don’t watch. This is an excellant show and knowing that it will have a definate endgame just makes it that much better. Do yourself a great favor and WATCH!!

    • Tommy says:

      Definitely sill watch!!!

    • Cathy says:

Look at it this way: at least you know it’s going to end, and not get canceled without any resolution. Now that would suck.

    • David says:

That would be like choosing not to read a book because you know its going to end.

Watch it – you’ll be glad you did. But give it time, the first season takes about 4 episodes to really find itself, but everything is pure awesome after that point.

    • Carissa Leandra says:

Oh by all means watch this show to the end, it will change you..amazing show. Honor Andy Whitfield, he did an amazing job before he passed. It was hard to watch the new Spartacus but the story itself stands strong and I believe it is so worth the watch. Great actors, great story ans such passion.

      • Maria says:

I have watch Spartacus n fell in love with Andy (rip)…. He played his role how a Spartacus should with the gentlemen attitude… The beauty he had presented. I can’t wait to see the last episode… Sad but glad starz gave them a chance to finish it in a professional way… Thank you starz ! Thank you to Spartacus characters!!!! Best wishes

      • Leo Crinerry says:

Yeah…….Anty was really a mentor. He did really well and I pray he gets peace in the afterlife. RIP.

    • Randy hughes says:

Don’t be stupid the show is awesome Andy was great and I’m sad he’s gone but I really was starting to get used to the new guy and I’m sad this is going to be the last season but at least there giving us one more so I’m happy about that, give it a shot you won’t regret it.

    • david merryman says:

i felt the same as you initially then i just got into it and matey its a really well made show lots of action and gory animation Andy W really did the 1st series justice and when he passed away RIP i was gutted and didnt think that anyone could replace him but ive got to hand it to liam macintre hes totally convincing taking over the role bit sad that season three will be the last of this epic story but that wont stop me hangin on my heels in anticipation of the last season in 2013 ive followed it all the way sad to see anemaus go but a great send off crixus is cool as is gallagus amazin footage well impressed thumbs up not down lol.

    • patsy says:

I very much love this show and am very very upset that it is ending this soon!!! I for one will no longer be subscribing to starz after the final season as a statement to the network for selling everyone of the fans short, the highest ratings last season and now ending the show…..doesn’t make sense to me. I will watch as I do love the show but am extremely upset by this curve ball. I do not look forward to the end….oh and 10 episodes at that. We deserve more and I don’t like it at all,

      • flagger25 says:

I AM VERY UPSET MY SELF! THEY FINALLY GET A GOOD SHOW GOING ON N NOW THEY WANT TO CANCEL IT! DAMN SHAME! ANY WAY I WANT TO THROUGH THIS OUT AT THE VIEWERS. DONT GET ME WRONG I LOVE THE NEW SPARTACUS BUT I THINK THEY SHOULD HAVE GOT THE GUY FROM THOR! HE LOOKS MORE LIKE THE FIRST ACTOR N ACTS N LOOKS MORE LIKE A GLADIATOR. BUT THIS GUYS JUST AS GOOD BUT THOR! OH SO MUCH MORE!

      • Doug says:

Yep, it is a great series. I agree, I won’t be watching This channel again. It was the best series I’ve seen in a long time.

10 shows will not do the prior seasons stories justice.

    • Paul says:

if you have not watched any of the series you have a lot of good tv to watch

    • Tamk84 says:

      just watch it. its BRILLIANT

    • MovieBuff says:

The show is really good, season 2 was great!!! Despite losing the original actor. The show still had me literally jumping out my chair freaking out over some crazy twists and unexpected doings. I recommend watching it.

    • t ayrers says:

Cant really go beyond this..nothing more happened (in history) involving Spartacus. All the slaves either died in combat, crucified while prisoner and some were re-enslaved. Anything more would be pure fiction. Watch hbo’s ROME if you want to get a feel for “what happenned next”. It the story of the fall of Pompey and the rise of Caesar.

    • Leigh ann roberts says:

By now I hoped you watched the two because they are awesome!

    • A B Stormalong says:

That sucks. Why is it that great shows end too early, while mediocre ones last for a decade?

      • t ayrers says:

once agian, it is because the show has/will run its course in accordance with the actual historical events. read a book on history or just wiki spartacus!

    • s. barberena says:

Oh, definitely watch it, the series is banging indeed!. You will love it.

    • dwayne24UK says:

i hope u watched it its a really good show and even with this being its last season still tells a great story

    • watch it its the best show to come out in recent years, and very accurate to the true story of Spartacus

      • gary says:

loved the show gutted its ended but wouldnt it be good to carry on after the end of spartacus see how the empire carried on with pompii caeser and crassus

    • Paul says:

This whole show is amazing I’ve watched every episode with joy! Ok nobody could replace Andy and what a terrible thing to happen and to be honest I thought crixus should have played Spartacus he had the presence and physique of a champ but that’s just my opinion. So we wait for the final battle and at least they made an ending and im sure it will make sense and be amazing too. Unlike lost, heros and so many cut short. Lost wasn’t cut short but the last episode didn’t make sense to it all so many things left not explained I was lost lol! Anywayz enough rambling on.anyone reading this buy the whole series it’s the best story of Rome I’ve ever seen and on that note if you have not seen the series called ROME that’s also amazing.

    • Marty says:

If you do your missing one of the best ever series i’ve watched on tv own all chpters hate to see it end must watch from the begining

    • josh says:

I’m disappointed its ending I really love dis show n I’m not much of show person so yea wish it can last a little longer

    • Trent says:

You need to decide to watch it. The first 2 or 3 episodes of season 1 are not very good. But every episode after that is excellent. If you can tough out the first few, it will be your new favorite show. The crappy blood spurts and bad cgi of the first few episodes slowly gets better. Don’t let it deter you.

    • Josh swongerj says:

It is still a really really good show

    • Mark says:

Well worth your time to see all the seasons to its end !!!

    • Regards of Spartacus Aurelia (Brooke Williams). Free Roman wife of Varro. the son she talk’s to Spartacus in ep1 vengeance “i will tell genies of you of the man who love his father above all other’
wouldn’t you think this would make new uprising plot to start on next season

    • GO LEAFS GO! says:

Now you don’t wanna watch it? Whats wrong with you! Youre missing one of the best TV show of our generation!!! SO U GO & WATCH IT!

  2. Christine says:

Oh come on Steven, I know people had some difficulty accepting Liam, but many viewers (like myself) loved him. Why did you give up on your show so quickly? It’s one of the best shows on TV right now.

    • brisbydog says:

Pretty sure it says it was the Network’s decision and Steven is now scrambling to come up with a season that wraps everything up

      • Mitholas says:

I think what he’s saying is that he had a plan for 5-7 seasons, but that he’s glad the show can be properly ended because they know it will be the last season, and that the show is still really popular, so it doesn’t get canceled after the audience goes due to declining quality.

    • John says:

I think spartcus is the type of part, that would make any actor’s career soar. Andy played it so well, but he was the first to take it. Because of his illness, was replace and though we all love Andy the story did not falter and we all look forward to seeing his replacement in the next esipode.
I hate that this is the final chapter, but; I am glad it combining 2-4 chapters in one. Like another post said a beginning, middle, and end, without drawing it out so long until the viewers become uninterested. great show , hard to wait until January

  3. Jake says:

NOOOO!!! The yummie actors! The over-the-top storylines! The latin-translated-dialogues! NOOOOOO!!! Not my Sparty!

  4. Lambsilencer says:

The fact that the next season will be the last doesn’t diminish the quality of the previous seasons in any way. It’ll have a definite end. So no reason to hesitate. :)

  5. sara says:

Disappointed. Vengeance moved SO slowly and now they’re going to be cramming years of history into ten episodes. :S

    • godzilla's_foil says:

Agreed. I’ve been watching Vengeance and it’s way too damn slow, to the point I feel a little lazy about watching the rest (but I will anyway). At least season 3 will be filled with storylines.

    • Snsetblaze says:

Well didn’t the real rebellion only last about 2.5 to 3 years? I’m not sure how much else they could do. But perhaps making it a longer season would help keeping it from feeling rushed.

      • Renaak says:

That is correct, the rebellion started in 73BC with the revolt in Capua and ended in 71BC when Crassus crushed Spartacus in a final battle.

If you read the historical record you’ll see there is enough in those two final years for another two seasons of the show, but I’m glad we’re getting a final season.

    • BG says:

“Years”? Learn your history LoL. Spartacus died one year after Oenomaus.

      • BG says:

Clearly we all know how to use Wikipedia :).

I think it would have been difficult to do the show without Crixus, more-so than anything else. You have two story lines told in the time span of one hour.

    • jaime says:

It’s not really “years” of history. Only a little over a years worth, and it’s good that they are ending it this way. Really, how would you tell the story of Spartacus over another 3 to 7 seasons? I guess it could be done if you went into ever insignificant detail, but I don’t really want to see that. I am happy seeing the major picture with this story. It is told well, and it will end well.
      R.I.P. Andy!

  6. RON says:

    so,no more blood,sand and sx ;(

  7. Nicole says:

This blows. I caught up with this series via OnDemand and fell in LOVE. Just an awesome, gitty, pushing the limits epic. I get the wisdom in not dragging things out but three seasons (plus a prequel season) is just not enough!

  8. JimJam says:

Starz must like ending everything on a high note… in other words, yes I’m still angry about Party Down!

    • RACHE says:

I AGREE. WHEN A REAL GOOD QUALITY SHOW IS PRODUCED THEY WANT TO END IT! WHAT IS THE DEAL? YOU PRODUCERS N ALL YOUR CREW R MAKIN BIG MONEY! THE REAL PEOPLE WHO LOVE THIS SHOW R HOOKED! ADDICTED! LIKE A DRUG! THIS SHOW ROCKS! ITS A DAME SHAME THAT U WILL END THIS. I DONT EVEN WATCH TV. I GOT CABLE TO WATCH SPARTACUS N TRUE BLOOD. ANOTHER VERY GOOD SHOW. GOOD STORY LINE THAT MAKES SENSE N ACTUALLY TOUCHES YOUR HEART. I SPEAK FOR MY SELF N THE OTHER VIEWERS. TRY TO KEEP THIS SHOW ON. THERE IS NOTHING BUT GARBAGE ON THE TUBE BUT A FEW GOOD SHOWS. THEY TOOK ” R U THERE CHELSEY OFF! NOW THAT WAS JUST THE WORST MOVE EVER! THAT WAS N AWESOME SHOW! JUST GOES TO SHOW THAT THERE R MORE PEOPLE IN THIS MESSED UP WORLD WHO LIKE TO WATCH THESE DAMNED REALITY SHOWS THAT PEOPLE MAKE FOOLS OF THEM SELF! DAMN SHAME! IS THERE ANY HONER OR PRIDE? INTEGRITY LEFT IN THIS WORLD? IM VERY DISAPPOINTED!

      • Teapot says:

i must Agree but SPARTACUS is Amazing i wish you guys would rehink and actually do like 5 seasons i love it totally AGREE there is more crap out there then most its true that most ppl are sheep liking the absoluly dumb and i pay extra to wach shows like Spartacus Shameless trueblood and Girls Amazing shows and networks
STARZ PLEASE DONT CANCEL SPARTACUS I KNOW SO MANY PEOPLE WHO ARE HOOKED!!! DON’T DEPRIVE US!!!! …& On A Side Note i didn’ think ANYONE COULD REPLACE ANDY BUT LIAM REALLY SUPRISED ME AND EVERYONE AND WE STILL LOVE IT SO DONT CANCEL!!

  9. Polly says:

after the huge disappointment that was Vengeance i kinda did see this coming

  10. Paige says:

At least there is enough time to wrap up the show properly. Think how many shows are cancelled without enough time for the creative team to have a proper end. Knowing that it is ending means I’ll savor the episodes more. And Starz gave Spartacus more chances than any other network would have. To let Andy Whitfield recover, they allowed a prequel, then after he got sick again, they allowed a recast. Not to mention, green-lighting the show in the first place. I just hope thye put in plenty of beefcake! (Scantily clad of course) :)

  11. greysfan says:

This just blows. No freaking way. What is with Starz and cancelling shows way too early? Damn you!!!

  12. nguber says:

Reblogged this on iwatch2much and commented:
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! Why would they do this? This makes no sense to me what so ever.

  13. Patricia says:

Omg why? After all the delays and finally finding someone new they are just going to cancel it. I thought the show got pretty good ratings and what else does Starz have going on? Even thou Liam could never replace Andy the show was still enjoyable. I’m gonna miss it.

  14. laura meakin says:

My hope is the season doesn’t feel rushed and it all makes sense and that nothing is shoe horned into fit. I hope it goes out on a high.

  15. Spike says:

i never got this show. it has the worst special effects ever, the green screen was so distracting that i couldnt focus on anything else lol

    • Daywalkrr says:

Man cut it out special effects were great!!!! The dialog was outstanding the plot the was xcellent..sex.violence,revenge, it doesnt get ne bettr than sparticus.best show ive ever watchd on t.v..sparticus took the crown from maximus…

  16. LLC says:

I do have to say that the change in the lead actor made a big difference for me. There was a depth and intelligence to Whitfield’s performance that McIntyre simply didn’t deliver. (It felt a little like Sparty had had one to many hits to the head.) It appears that the decision does come in time for them to deliver some finality, though, which is much appreciated.

  17. Simone says:

I hate to admit it but the show died with Andy.

  18. Melly says:

Surprisingly I am not as sad about Spartacus’ cancellation as I would have thought. After the death of Andy and a very slow last season, it just wasn’t the same. However, even without Andy, I thought the prequel – Gods of the Arena was pretty kick-ass! Liam McIntyre did a great job in Vengence, but maybe if the story had gone a little faster, I could have accepted him better as Spartacus. Also with *spoiler alert, spoiler alert, spoiler alert* – the deaths of Batiatus last season, and then Lucretia this season, I’m thinking I’m ready for it to be wrapped up in a niece neat little pacakge.

  19. Michelle says:

This is seriously upsetting. I LOVE this show! *grumbles Roman curses*

  20. CC says:

They will just replace it with another lame story wrapped around porn…

    • Taxidi says:

lol I think I will have to agree. Season Three first episode was full on porn. Gay sex ,straight sex Lesbian sex .Too much information. Looks like all porn & gore so far.

      • loudawg says:

really? PORN? I don’t know what your idea of porn is but I promise you this show is not porn. There is alot of sex but bush, tits, and an occasional cock is not porn!! If you dont believe me type porn in your web browser. This show is portraying what we have all been taught about Romans and the style of life they had back then. no tv no electric what to do work out and have sex seems to be the only options besides fighting and waging war. yeah they worked back then but you can’t work all the time. and as a teen reading through the histories sex was way more predominant in the portrayals i read. It sucks they are cancelling the show, but at least it will be concluded unlike Legend of the seeker which FOX jipped us on. RIP Andy your were great. Thanks liam for continuing to do the role justice!!

  21. Francy says:

This really comes out of the blue…I am just so upset about this, very mad, actually. The show has been telling Spartacus’ story very slowly so far, building it up step by step.. and now, they’ll just have to condense years of history, dozens of battles in just 10 episodes. They’ll have to skim over so much… I fear that the third season will be rushed, and probably action-packed, and will leave little room to the exploration of the new (and old) characters.

I have loved all the seasons so far, but Vengeance was my favourite, and I think Liam is great. Andy portrayed (flawlessly) Spartacus the man behind the legend, while Liam portrayed Spartacus on his way to become the legend. The writing for the character was different, and that’s what I think made it even more difficult for some people to accept Liam in the role… Vengeance was less Spartacus-focused, and more of a group effort.

This show still had so much to offer…awful decision.

    • Rebel-of-Capua says:

Your so right about the group effert. The writers gave Liam’s Spartacus less screen time to allow viewers to get used to him in the part. The show is different without Andy. However Gods of the Arena was still good, with it’s focus on Batiatus & Gannicus. I think Vengence killed off too much of the principal cast. I’m sad to see the show end. I’ll be awaiting War of the Damned.

  22. Andy says:

What the? Why does Starz keep cancelling their shows?

  23. nanook says:

I’m a big fan of Spartacus, but I for one am glad that they are wrapping it up after a 3rd season. I don’t see why people want series to go on forever. ALL should be 2-3 max, rather than dragging them out forever until they become stale and repetitious. I am glad at least that it wasn’t cancelled outright and we can all get a final resolution. I look fwd to the 3rd season. Now bring on those naked gladiators and let’s see more of Agron & his boytoy!

  24. alexjones says:

I can’t say i’m surprised to be honest, I can’t think how they could have carried teh story beyond season 3 considering what history tells us.

    • Francy says:

Well, DeKnight has been saying from the start (and has never changed his tune) that he had at least 5 seasons planned. There was no danger of running out of stories to tell… this has clearly been the network’s decision.

      Too bad…

  25. Honestly I’m not going to bother with another Starz show… I’ll finish this season of Magic City, and won’t even bother to watch S2..

This cancellation was very simmilar to Rome’s, wich “ironically” was cancelled by the same guy who today runs Starz…

Hopefully they can take a break a write a very awesome ending. And, it won’t be as rushed as “Gods of the Arena”, were everything moved SO fast, you didn’t had any connection with new characters (except for Gannicus and Melitta).

  26. Antonio says:

No, it’s ok to me. Three seasons plus the short season-prequel “Gods of Arena” is sufficient, especially if they wrap up the story in a satisfactory way.

  27. Carmen says:

Like someone said before, this show died with Andy.

  28. Betty says:

One of my very favorite shows. I will be sorry to see it end. But then all good things must come to an end.

  29. Donna Mersereau says:

I HAVE NEVER missed one show! Each Sunday Spartacus was front & center. Extremely disappointed to say the least!!!!!!!

  30. John says:

And this is why Starz will never compete with HBO, Showtime or even AMC

  31. Sorry to hear that, Spartacus is one of my favorite shows and the ONLY reason for me to order Starz. Guess I will do my usual and order Starz days before the final season premiere and cancel the very next day after the season finale airs but this time I won’t return.

  32. Debbie says:

Dam, loved this from the first advert. sad at the passing of Andy but thought it carried on well, are Starz in money trouble they are always cancelling good shows

  33. Marshall says:

I love this show from beginning to the End, I am so so impressed with every twist and turn of awesome events. Best show ever and beats out most hollywood movies these days… Looking forward to last season. I love it when things just end instead of stretching it out for a paycheck. Hats off to everyone involved in Spartacus, wish I could have been in an episode . Legendary classic !!!!

  34. AJ says:

VERY disappointing. Vengeance was the best season of Spartacus so far, even if it did take a while to get used to Liam McIntyre (although that was more due to the writers giving Spartacus an ever increasing amount of annoying “motivation” speeches which reminded me of some of the worst parts of the final season of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer).

I was looking forward to seeing the story of Spartacus told across at least two more seasons. The fact that they’re going to condense his remaining trials and triumphs into a single season of only ten episodes is very bitter sweet. I’m glad that they didn’t just cancel the series without a resolution, but the rivalry between Spartacus and Crixus could have sustained an entire season by itself. At the very least, I hope Agron and Nassir get a happy ending. And that they introduce the remaining leader of the rebellion, Castus, in the very first episode.

  35. beth says:

I cant believe it! I so LOVE this show! I will miss it greatly….

  36. can we please get a show with lucy lawless, shes so flawless,I still think spartacus can go on for more seasons but I do think part of the reason starz is letting go of it because they fear the show wont have as strong ratings without Lucy Lawless, but even though shes gone people are mad but they still will watch, come on this show is amazing

  37. I just hope this news dosent mean that Magic City will come back for season 2 and then starz will say lets end on a high note and lets give it one more season

  38. dan templeton says:

I really like the series. I bot the first season while in China and watched it and the prequel. I have watched them a couple of times and yes I would love an extended series but, if you read about Spartacus for real, he just kind of fades into history disappearing from the scene. I look forward to 2013 and the 10 episodes from that effort. It has been a quality production with innovative visual techniques to enhance story and characters. Thanks .

This is an atrocity. Chris Albrecht, STARZ CEO, has the audacity to say that by cancelling this very successful and popular series, he will ensure its legacy. Yeah, sort of like JFK’s assasintion ensured his legacy. Spartacus is a truly terrific series that has taken chances and succeded wonderfully. Besides telling the story of Spartacus from a unique perspetive, it illustrates the intrigue and corruption that was the Roman Empire.

Why in the world would Mr. Albrecht even consider cancelling this show? Spartacus has high production values, great writing, terrific acting, and manges to keep the story intriguing and suspenseful. Yes, we all know what happens to Spartacus, (well, we really don’t since his body was never found) but that doesn’t matter. What matters is the series deals with very complex, adult content. It mangages to do this intelligently, and with a straitforward honesty without being crude or pornographic. Those are remarkable achievements in this day and age.

I hope good sense dawns on Mr. Albrecht before it is too late–too late to get the plot constructed for a final, fourth season; to late to keep the cast together, and too late to make a truly significant contribution to the history of television drama.

I just read that once Spartacus is over DeKnight is planning on doing another gladiator show, a spin-off, not tied to history. I would love to see something else done with different characters as I am still missing Andy some dang much. It just makes me sad to continue watching Spartacus without him. No disrespect to Liam McIntyre.

  46. Ivan says:

too bad.. but you can replace the show with another Greek mythology series that will involve Greek Gods such as Zeus, Hades and etc. I’m sure it would be one of the best shows in the whole world just like “Spartacus”….
