American Idol Top 3 Results Recap: We've Got Tonight. Who Needs Tomorrow? [Updated]

As American Idol gets closer to the Season 11 finale, its results shows should — by the laws of reality television — get more and more suspenseful. The only problem is that with fewer dreams hanging in the balance, and fewer contestants for evil kitty Ryan Seacrest to bat about like so many trapped mice, the show’s producers have to pad the telecast with alarming amounts of pink slime to fill out the burger.

And thus we get multiple promos for Ice Age: Continental Drift, a Ford “Music Video” so inane that I’m pretty sure Idol producers needed to sedate Jessica Sanchez and Joshua Ledet with tranquilizer darts to get ‘em through it, and announcements from Ryan Seacrest touting Season 12 auditions. (File under: I don’t think we’re ready for that jelly.)

Ah well, at least we got Adam Lambert — his hair like the plumage of some awesome tropical bird, his nails painted a hue not even J.Lo would dare to rock — belting out his latest single, “Never Close Our Eyes.” Because let’s be honest, the Idoloonie Nation needed something positive to cling to after Ryan Seacrest delivered results that — once they were unleashed into the universe — felt more repugnant than making a salad from month-old sludge in the back of your refrigerator’s vegetable drawer.

(Pause here for music therapy: THIS IS A…)

Without further ado, let’s cut to the results.

Sent First to the Finale
Jessica Sanchez

(Pause here for music therapy: MAAYYYY-UHHHH-NNNN’S WORRRRRR-UH-LLLL-DUH!)

Sent Second to the Finale
Phillip Phillips

(Pause here for music therapy: BUT IT WOULDN’T BE NUTHIN’. NUTTHHHHHHH-IIII-NNNNNN-UH!)

Eliminated
Joshua Ledet

(Pause here for music therapy: WITHOUT A WOMANNNNNN OR A GURRRRRRLLLLL!)

I’m not even sure I have anything left to type. How could Joshua get sent packing after a four-week extravaganza that included “No More Drama,” “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World,” “To Love Somebody” and “Ready for Love”? Somewhere, Lady Justice has dropped her scales and headed straight for the freezer, to fetch her bottle of gin.

Nevertheless, there may have been one silver lining to Joshua’s ouster: A glorious encore of “…Man’s World” that ranks right up there with Haley Reinhart’s “Bennie and the Jets” and Allison Iraheta’s “Cry Baby” in the pantheon of great Idol exit performances. Was I wiping away a tear or ten as Joshua growled about man making the train, to carry the heavy load? As a glass of Sauvignon Blanc is my witness, you betcha!

Plus, Joshua now joins the hallowed ranks of prior Idol second-runners-up (that’s beauty pageant speak for third-place finishers) such as Elliott Yamin, Melinda Doolittle, Allison Iraheta (don’t tell me she was fourth; I’ll never believe you), and Haley Reinhart.

I’d weigh in on Jimmy Iovine’s day-after commentary on Phillip, Joshua, and Jessica, but I can’t bear it. Plus, Lady Justice needs a drink refill, and then she and I need to figure out whether Lisa Marie Presley was singing live or lipsynching there in the forest of the damned. (I didn’t mind her song that much, one way or the other.)

And with that, I send ye to the comments. Ease on down there and tell us if you think the right two contestants made the finale. Or just weep. And congrats to Joshua and Skylar Jessica and Phillip! Next week’s finale will certainly be notable in its matchup of vocalists who couldn’t be further apart on the musical scale if their names were Ke$ha and Josh Groban.

  1. Frank O'File says:

    Weep. I give up.

    • Once Jessica was safe I knew Joshua was going. Phillip has been nowhere near that Bottom 3 or 2 all season long plus his last song last night was by far his best to date. I still think a Phillip/Jessica finale is pretty good.

      • Frank O'File says:

You’re wrong. You got Philip who never met a melody he liked, and generic belter Jessica who still doesn’t know who she is. Joshua was a once-in-a-lifetime talent. AI blew it.

        • Leo says:

I know, Joshua was amazing. What’s left is mediocrity but that seems to be what the viewers of this show want. Safe, generic and bland.

          • Faz says:

Well, Joshua wasn’t all that different. I mean you have right to like him, of course, but for lots of people he was kind of safe, generic, and bland.

          • Miss Otis Regrets... says:

Yes, Joshua was an amazing vocalist. He was my absolute favorite because he brought me back to my favorite decade in popular music, the 60’s.But unless he manages to lead a revival of that kind of music, he happened to be 50 years behind his time.

His personality didn’t help him either. I think after Jermaine Jones any standoffish mama’s boy behavior wasn’t going to fly well with the audience. Yeah Phillip is quiet as well, but Phillip had the advantage of being comfortable in his own skin which puts others at ease. And the advantage of being gorgeous. And yah, not fair, but looks do help you win. It’s part of the package.

          • TinyTim says:

At least one of the two best singers made it into the finals! Now Jessica can sing circles around Philips, and all of the Joshua fans should support Jessica.

          • Gene says:

No, what viewers of this show want are singers who aren’t pimped by the judges. Joshua was good but I was sick and tired of Randy jumping up after every song to give him a standing ovation. Gawd but I wish Simon was still here to give the judges some hint of honesty.

          • Tom22 says:

Joshua wasn’t much of a gospel singer in my book because I didn’t hear the soul in his song..
sure he yammered and got worked up but the words just weren’t caressed in my opion nor was a sense of a cadence emphasised.

As for general emotion, I’d say the cover of Imagine typified all that I feel in every song i’ve heard him sing. The word’s really aren’t that complicated … yet I didn’t feel like he appreciated the words.

Imagine … I can’t pin point actual diction, but there’s a way to say that that conjures the act of imagning and a whiff of hope and possiblitty if say one way.. just a vocabulary word another.

one isolated word alone means nothing but string them all together and it loses me.

There’s a way to conjur a sun on your shoulders while also being tenderly sad about the present state of affairs. Where he does cast that a very few times it isn’t making sense. “iving for today”…while today is often an optomistic word that sentence is pointing out the unfortunate … that they’re preocupied with today in a desperate holding on way…. (although living for today lately is a positive term clearly it wasn’t the way the song was written) .. conversely the “tomorrow” has no empahsis or forward looking shine to it.. almost as if the imagined future isn’t bright….

But more often that being “wrong” words just aren’t caressed to me but just notes…especially as he gets further and further into songs. He could have substituted the word “Tomato” for “Tomorrow” and you’d hardly have noticed it because he conjured up so little meaning into the word itself.

Seriously, I bet Michael Slezak, with his entirely off pitch, thin and squeaky voice (i apologize if you can actually sing Michael.. just guessing you aren’t much better than me) would do a far more meaningful cover of othe song.

Miachael is more of a wordsmith and also inflects his sentences with all sorts of feeling always (i.e slightly sarcastic yet empathetic at the same time…doubt or uncertainty in saying a centance that reads as a fact etc).

As far as Joshua’s cadence and gospel… best gospel song this year was Deandre Jessica and Candices “guess it doesn’t matter anymore” ….. even if the lyrics wouldn’t intiially read that way I think they effectively cast them that way and made it a song about redemption and absolution of the past. (a strong underlying feeling of redemption was something I felt was missing in a big way from “a long time coming” )

Just my 2 cents.. obviously Joshua connected to others..

but please don’t cry “injustice” because an awful lot of people didn’t feel what many others felt so strongly.

        • omfug says:

Agreed Frank. This finale sucks, a little girl not quite ready, and Pee Pee–ugh.

          • wawaweewa says:

People who say anyone on American Idol this season is not ready should either be named Mariah, Celine Dion, Bruce Springsteen, or Michael Jackson, unless of course you are talking of Jermaine Jones. Heck, even Hee Jun Han who cannot sing a song in his own interpretation was made for television. If you can’t sing like these folks, stop criticizing that people are not ready because flatly, nobody cares about what you say!

        • Marianne says:

It’s all a matter of taste, and that may be the reason Joshua is gone. He is a good singer, but (in not the same way as Deandre) a bit polarizing. His gospel-style delivery is not really my cup of tea. I know many others who share my opinion. I wish him well. I’m sure he will get a deal. Nice job Joshua!

          • Miscellaneopolan says:

I wonder if his choice to sing Imagine cost him some votes among the church-going fans. Kind of like when Skylar sung a Vietnam War protest song and got voted off the night after. I don’t know if there really is a connection, but it’s interesting.
            .
            Oh, and also: NOOOOOOOOOOO!

          • deb says:

Agree. Joshua is good but a little too much of a gospel singer for me. To me all his songs sounded the same and ended with him screaming. I’m rooting for Phil.

          • DantheMan says:

I agree, Deb. If Josh hasn’t ended every song screaming, he might have gained more fans. But the fans he did have seemed to like him more the more he screamed. People complain about Phillip, but I would buy his album any daynover Joshua’s screaming.

          • TheBeach says:

I think you make a very good point. Joshua’s gospel-influenced singing style is a bit love it or hate it. I grew up with and love classic R&B but it’s not often heard these days except on niche stations.and many younger idol viewers are just not that familiar with it. And while I don’t see him spear-heading a resurgence of gospel/R&B, as Randy hopes, he could be current if he went more in the “Ready for Love” direction, more like Usher, NeYo and others. I also believe the non-stop standing ovations and over-pimping by the judges had a negative effect.

          • Brendan says:

To anyone that says Joshua always sounded the same…. are they watching the same show? Cuz the worst offended for always looking, sounding and singing the same is Phil Philips. He pops his leg up, causes the vein in his forehead to bulge and slows the songs done. Jessica is a belter and Joshua is a gospel/soul singer but they still had much more variety – AND they actually sounded good. None of my family or friends can believe that PP is still around, I have no idea why people support him. And his inevitable win says so much about the sexism and racism that still exists in this country.

          • elisefan44 says:

so much word to your whole post, brendan!

          • Katie says:

Brendan – really? There have been winners of all types…white females, African-American females, white males, and an African-American male. Yes, the winners have been trending towards the “WGWG” type, but I think that says more about the demographics who WATCH THE SHOW rather than America as a whole. Those types of artists do well in the “real world” too, so there must be a segment of the population that really enjoys that type of music. It’s probably the same people who are watching Idol. For the record, typically, those contestants are my favorite but I can’t stand PP…my favorites have sadly already been voted off.

          • CAM says:

            Excellent response, Katie!

          • dengelito says:

joshua is good as 3rd placer…….his attacked to the songs on top 3 was the same…….no new treatment……screaming like f…….t……but he will be remembered……but i never at ease listening to his biting seizing type of singing and it doesnt appeal to my eardrums……Not as commercial…..so we wuill be waiting for the two who made it to the top 2 and best 2 of the season!

          • Lyn says:

@Misc. — Yep, I was primed to cast my FIRST vote of the season for Joshua. Liked him as a soulful throwback to an earlier era. But I scrapped that plan after “Imagine.” However, it was less for the slap at his preacher dad, who I’m sure does believe in heaven and hell (unlike John Lennon) and more because it’s just an overrated, cliche of a stupid song. And he chooses it almost randomly after hearing it on the radio? Ugh.

        • jen says:

Frank – I agree 1000%. It is impossible for the best talent to win this show. Philip does not deserve to be there and Jessica is far too young. I give up.

          • Jessica Isner says:

Agreed. I’m way more OK with Jessica than I am with Phillip, but I honestly think that watching Joshua go home–after the way he laid everything out on that stage last night, to the point where he looked physically and emotionally exhausted afterward–is heartbreaking. Jessica’s great, but I think Josh was by far the most talented contestant this season. His voice is just absurd. Phillip is so bland and so boring to me, and I hope Jimmy Iovine and his team are ready for the nightmare it is going to be to try to get him to put out any kind of record they approve of when he inevitably wins next week.

          • Belle says:

Didn’t you already know this before tonight? If I hadn’t already known from previous seasons, I would have known the best talent can’t win when Erika & then Elise went home.

BTW my ears are delighted Joshua is gone and no more god-awfully screaming. He has a good voice but I’ve heard many singers exactly like him….all of them church singers.

          • Wawaweewa says:

I agree with you Jen, but then again we’ve been warned by 10 previous seasons of Idol that this was to be the trend, and not the exception. With the possible exceptions of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Daughtry, and Adam Lambert (two of which did not win, need I mention), the best talents almost often get knocked off before the finale. Not surprisingly, people like Taylor Hicks, Lee Dwyze, Kris Allen, and Scotty McCreery won. This is Idol, plain and simple.

          • glamity58 says:

I’m not impressed with anyone this season, but then again I’m a Glambert. I was watching to hear Adam Lambert. I hated to see Joshua go. Jessica is a great singer, but needs more maturity. Phillip is the typical white guy behind a guitar which all of America seems to embrace. I don’t get it. He struggles with many genres of music. But he’ll probably win.

          • Jeff says:

How can you think Phillip doesn’t deserve to be there? This is a popularity contest, not a contest to find the best technical singer. I agree Joshua is a good singer, but I always drifted off and stopped paying attention during his songs. It was always the same, he would scream and shout, and the judges would give him a standing ovation.

          • shelbybb says:

Phillip more than deserves to be there – he’ll win the whole thing! why? Because people vote in this show and the most people vote for Phillip! I laugh every week at your comments – can’t wait for his concert!

          • Dylan says:

You guys have all lost your mind Phillip is the best by far. He knows where he wants to go and he can write his own music. Joshua was ok don’t get me wrong but nothing ever changed and besides I was sick of the judges gettib on there knees for him cause every song they stood for only maybe half or third they should have stood for. So I’m so happy Josh is gone and its what America wants not what you guys want

          • dengelito says:

i see a lot of people annoyed to see phillip and even jessica to be in the finale…..they wish so much about joshua take one of their spot……Its too late…..america…..this is your american idol……jessica and phillip……and this is your screaming american idol……joshua!

        • Mary B says:

I hope the judges learned their lesson. It was their constant standing o’s., stupid statements that put the nails in his coffin. It made people angry and turned them off to him. Joshua was good but 14 or 15 standing o’s in a season and statements like best singer in 50 years. Come on. I wasn’t a Joshua fan but I just feel so bad for him.

          • chistosa says:

Or it was the millions of illegal votes from the Phillipines.

          • jay cross says:

Yes,, maybe the million illegal votes from the philippines, LOL, im from the philippines, blaming it to somewhere else?? its an AMERICAN talent show, do i have to remind you that philippines or any other country has nothing to do with LEE DEWYZE winning idol few years back? get your voting public straightened up before throwing the blame somewhere else.

          • HudsonRiverside says:

@chistosa Those do NOT count. It is the digital age, you can not trick a digital fingerprint that’s a simple as a cal in, text, FB or Skype. Plus, you have every news report from the Philippines STATING they can NOT actually vote for her, how many people do you think time their day in the Philippines to try and match the US time zone? You can visit any Filipino blog and those who try to post that nonsense about illegal voting get drowned out by the Filipinos themselves. Many of those texts are attached to MALWARE viruses so be very careful of passing on conspiracy rumors. You’ve been a Jessica hater all season so I don’t expect you to actually comprehend what I wrote. Btw, yea for Phjillip!!!! Maybe the Filipinos were illegally voting for him too! :D

          • jay cross says:

yes,, i’ll certainly illegally vote for philip too, i like his style..

          • Codie Taft says:

chistosa before you open your mouth you have to check it first if this is true or not…Filipino American in the United States are about 4millions….if all of these people will vote…they don’t need the Philippines !! shame on you accusing the whole country of illigal acts !!

          • TheBeach says:

I agree with Mary B that the judges over-praising every Joshua performance had a negative effect.

          • Brendan says:

The judges should be eliminated. We don’t need them because they don’t even do ANYTHING except compliment every single contestant. But even if the judges like someone, is that a valid reason to vote them off the show? If that’s really true, then there should be an age limit because that is such a childish thing to do. Ending someone’s dream just because they happen to get a few more compliments or standing ovations is ridiculously petty and it ruins TALENT competitions.

          • Blank Slate says:

Another thought: Jimmy Iovine said more than once– on the air, during the show, for all to hear– that he IS absolutely cutting a record with Josh. Win or not. I think that was a loud signal to the rest of us that Josh wasn’t going to win this season. Not come in first win. He’s got the album. I’m not worried about his career should he want one.

          • sfbsailor says:

and the f***ing moron judges didn’t even give Adam Lambert a standing 0! These judges are in the JOKEJERK clan! fortunately, i watch AI on my computer using a streaming site that eliminates commercials and enables me to jump right past the inane judges’ comments. They pay big money to jokejerk judges who don’t know sh** from shinola. Only in America where some moronically egotistical Brit like Nigel seems to know what will appeal to Americans who are at least 50% stupid like the judges!

          • Dave says:

Its a popularity contest, not a singing contest. I think that voting should stop when it gets down to 6, and then judges take over. Or we will never get a true winner. Does anyone feel that skin color had anything to do with this?

          • President Obama says:

No, I don’t believe skin color had anything to do with last night’s outcome.

          • CAM says:

I agree with the comment that the judges may have hurt Joshua. I felt like they were forcing him on me, and I liked him a lot! The standing Os were ridiculous. Yes, he earned a few of them, but their determination to avoid giving them to certain contestants who earned them- when they were giving them to Joshua over and over again- was annoying. I found myself starting to point out the negative in several of his performances because of them. As for who made it to the final, I have to say I thought the top 7 were all terrific, and I could see a final with any combination of them. I am a Skylar fan, but I think they are all quite talented.

          • darcy's evil twin says:

I’m sorry, but Joshua deserved 100 standing Os for the ONE that HeeJun got (still trying to figure that out!).

          • frankie says:

The following comment was posted on the You Tube Video “How to Vote for Jessica Sanchez from Other Countries.”: RE HIS VOTING VIA SKYPE: “”I dont think it’s illegal. Because the system in fact accepted it, therefor they allowed it. If they allowed it so its not cheating. Cheating as i know it, is doing without permitting it. GET IT? don’t be moron its common sense people. vhyned30 1 week ago 4 WHY ID NO ONE IN THE PRESS IS INVESTIGATING WHAT APPEARS TO BE MASSIVE VOTER CHEATING FOR JESSICA.

          • My Alter Ego says:

@Dave: Yes, unfortunately, it is a popularity contest. But until they get “judges” who can truly “judge,” changing the outcome so that it is determined by the judges isn’t a good solution either.

          • dengelito says:

i dont care about the standing ovation given to the contestant…its an affirmation of good works….like you are given a test and you pass the test….thats the only meaning of that……not because you gain 15 standing ovation you will be standing as the sole winner….no…..and this makes me so touch by steven tyler…he stand on jessica’s rendition of dont want to miss a thing….then he make his hand over his blazer that shows his heart is beatin fast…..that he felt the song and awarded jessica that its a great song and made it more greater….so lovely!…..and another thing…isnt it the show entitled …american idol right….so how come…..philippines is drag to this illegal votes!….if you think we love a contestant because of filipino lineage…..its not our problem anymore…we just appreciate true talent……and i like phillip phillips…..hope he from the phillippines…..his name is so PHILLIPPINIZED…..dont you see…..illegal votes from the phillippines is going to phillip!ha ha ha ha…chistoza stupid!

          • LaCota says:

it’s time for Randy Jackson to step aside. he has had a good run as a great judge, but he dosen’t connect with the talent on american idol anymore. the songs the Talent want to sing, that is more current, is not reconized by Randy Jackson. we love you Randy, but quit when you can!

            Comment by LaCota P.

        • Rachel says:

THIS! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Although I LIKED these two contestants, neither were EVER my favorite. Save for two amazing performances, at least two with which I personally connected (“Volcano” and “And I am telling you), I was consistently bored or underwhelmed. I am not saying they are not amazing…just not for me. I KNOW they have fans, and I am happy for you guys, I’ve just been bored for the last few seasons of this show.

        • adamfan says:

Yes, wasn’t it funny how the judges would say to Philip, “there was not much melody there, but that is ok”, “the pitch was a bit off, but who cares the song was great”. So now we will get to hear Philip straining to sing in that huge concert hall. Joshua, if you happen to read this, please don’t worry, your future is going to be so much brighter than Lee Dewayze, I mean Taylor Hicks, oh sorry, I mean Philip. Jessica, even though very talented will fade into oblivion.

          • Jurybox says:

I have a feeling the P2 will do much better than Taylor or Lee. First of all, Lee was off-key 60% of the time. Taylor was – well, I’ll probably live another 50 years before I understand why Taylor Hicks won AI – especially over Katharine McPhee (has she been awesome on SMASH or what!!). Anyway, P2 has a very “alternative-rock” sound and I hope he’ll make those kinds of records. He comes across as a very talented musician and I just bet when he’s doing his own music he’ll be amazing. The only concern I have with him is that the AI audience is not really much into alternative rock – so he’ll have to win over a bunch of new fans who may have not ever heard him because they don’t tune into AI. I hope AI gives him the boost he’ll need – but he’s definitely very talented. I’ve enjoyed all his performances.

Jessica will probably win though. I think she’ll capture the majority of Joshua’s fans (that is, if they still decide to vote now that he’s off). And she is simply amazing and has a huge career ahead of her, win or lose.

        • Chrissie Kirk says:

No Frank, the stupid people who voted not for Joshua got it wrong…where is that SAVE when you really need it?

        • idolmama says:

That’s it. I have been trying to figure out all season why I just couldn’t get behind Jessica. And last night it finally dawned on me. Sorry if I sound a little like Simon C. but after an entire season of copycat diva ballads I just can’t figure out what type of artist Jessica is or wants to be. They, the judges and Michael and Melinda, keep harping on Jessica’s bluesy style of singing and her growling but yet when she chooses songs she chooses out of style diva ballads. Maybe that’s been my problem I don’t know what type of artist she is and neither does she. How can she know she is still a kid. One with an amazing voice but..at this time I am not buying any of her albums. Have to admit I am not sure if I am buying anyone’s album this time round. Think it will really depend on what type of songs P2 and Joshua have on theirs.

        • BobN says:

AI didn’t blow it, unless the overhyping of Joshua led to his demise. Yes, he is a phenomenal singer and entertainer, there is no doubt about it. I enjoyed or loved nearly all of his performances though he did tend to get a little bit too overblown at times. Both Jessica (simply amazing vocals) and Phillip (much more what americans listen to) are also exceptional performers. So no AI didn’t blow it, they brought us perhaps the best top 3 ever, certainly in the last several seasons. Even anyone blew it, it was the voting public.

        • Macy says:

How can someone’s opinion be wrong? It’s their opinion.

      • ansa says:

I was shocked that Jessica made it to the finale…not that she didn’t deserve it, but because Idol hasn’t been very good to their female contestants in the past few years so I was pleasantly surprised. I do agree that Joshua Ledet is one of the best vocalist ever in Idol history. But his problem is song choice. He already gave us a huge moment with “Its a Man’s World”…so his two choices for top 3 that were similar to that didn’t have as much impact. He also needed to sing more contemporary songs that would connect to the “Voting” audience of Idol…Gospel style is not that popular and this is a popularity contest. Finally, his reactions to judges comments are sometimes a bit aloof and may put off some people. I certainly respect his talent, but I don’t like him very much…I don;t dislike him…its just ok, and sometimes he can come off as smug…and how people perceive your personality is very important in Idol. It really is not allabout the vocals.

        • gazebo says:

If Joshua was all about winning Idol, he would have done more contemporary styled songs. But I think he is setting his sights on a recording/performing career doing “old-time” R&B and he has established that he is by far the best singer for that. I think he’ll have a great career in R&B and we’ll hear of him a long time after Philip has faded away into the wallpaper.

        • My Alter Ego says:

@ansa: It’s fascinating how frequently shyness, humility, and introvertedness can be perceived as being “aloof.” I know that first hand, which is what I see in Joshua, besides his enormous talent.

      • TinyTim says:

Joshua fans should vote for Jessica now as they understand real singing. I can’t see Joshua fans liking Philips as he has about two notes he can sing, and on a good day maybe three notes.

    • Rachel says:

      Agreed.

    • Really hope Jessica beats PP. He has no business being in the finale. Didn’t even show any chivalry with the coin toss and is going last AGAIN.

      • Belle says:

Chivalry? Are you insane? It’s a contest that both of them want to win. Why should P2 give up any advantage he can get just because of his gender? Besides, last night was Phil’s 1st time going last.

      • DantheMan says:

Chivalry? Seriously you want guys to let girls go first just because they’re girls? You probably also want girls to not be able to vote and think their place is in the home and not on singing competitions. If a girl is man enough to go against guys in the singing competition then she shouldn’t expect a guy to treat her any differentlymthan he would another guy.

        • Marsaili says:

Sadly, this is the least insulting post Punkskittle has posted all night—you should see the other crap he posted ;-P

        • Mary B says:

When was there a coin toss? I minssed that.

          • President Obama says:

It seems as though they used to do the coin toss live. Does anyone remember? In season 9 Lee won the coin toss but deferred to Crystal. In season 10 Scotty won the coin toss but deferred to Lauren Alaina. They both deferred to the lady. It was nice of Lee to do that, and considering Scotty’s upbringing and his age I’m sure his parents would have mopped the floor with him on live TV had he not deferred to Lauren.
It’s a nice gesture but not completely necessary in this situation.

          • President Obama says:

and now I have to return to running the country.

        • Owen says:

You know what would have been nice. A P2 fan that actually says, “Yeah, I was a little disappointed in Phillip for not deferring to Jessica”. Just ONE fan. Cause you KNOW the hypocrisy of TVLand Idol fans, if it had been the other way around, if these fans had liked a female contestant and the male contestant had done this, they would have been ALL over that.

          • darcy's evil twin says:

Okay then – I am not a huge P2 fan but I do like him. Being as how he is from the South and a little older than Jessica, I will say it – It would have been the polite thing to do to defer to Jessica. I am a little disappointed in him that he did not exhibit better manners (like Lee Dewyze and Scotty McCreery did – say what you like, but Scotty was always extremely polite).

I don’t know if it’s really bad manners on P2’s part – P2 kind of strikes me as the type of guy that walks around in a fog half the time, which is not unusual for artist types. We have a whole week to go – we will see what happens.

          • FreeHaley says:

It’s a contest. Even is even. It’s not like they give females winners contracts 25% smaller than male winners do they? I bet you’d hate that.
I don’t think it’s fair to get on his case about this.

          • darcy's evil twin says:

FreeHaley – you have an excellent point. It’s a contest. I’m only basing my comments on traditional manners, but there is certainly no rule that P2 has to defer to Jessica in a competition. Now, if there were only one seat on the bus, that would be different.

      • Ray says:

WHAT?? Ridiculous comment. Based on your logic, why have a coin toss? And again, based on your logic, Joshua should have been in the finale, instead of Jessica. America got it wrong again.

        • As posted above, Lee deferred to Crystal, and Scotty deferred to Lauren. They are true gentlemen. What you got to say for your boy now, hmm?

          • GeorgeR says:

Do you not think they deferred to see how the other did and what they would be competing against /
didnt Archiletta do the same thing?

        • MamaLis says:

I agree. Just finished watching and as Michael stated, was surprised to see how bummed I was at the results. Let me tell you – when those Filipinos vote, they vote. And let me add that “the dramatic SAVE” a few weeks back. Now I REALLY believe it was all a fabrication.

          • darcy the slutty twin says:

Can we just put a stop to bringing Filipinos to the conversation? Granted a lot of Filipino-Americans may be voting for Jessica, but let’s not give the impression that AN ENTIRE RACE are crazily power-voting for her. And you can tell that to ninth-placer Ramiele Malubay and tenth-place finisher Thia Megia.

      • CAM says:

Oh, please. There’s no need for him to let Jessica choose if she goes first or second. It’s a contest. If Jessica is a better singer and performer than Phillip is, then she’ll have a great career. In the end, it doesn’t matter if you win AI or not. Many former contestants who weren’t even in the final have had more successful careers than several of the winners.

      • chistosa says:

So I suppose you think that Obama should have voted for Hillary in the democratic primaries in the last election to be chivalrous. Phillip wants to win. He can show chivalry by opening the door for her and pulling out her chair at the table. No obligation to give her a leg up in a contest.

        • darcy's evil twin says:

I posted this above – I kind of think P2 walks around in a bit of a fog at times. Who knows what will happen between now and next week.

      • FreeHaley says:

Come on, you are taking the Jessica fan thing way too far.
If she got offered a 35% smaller contract if she won than a male winner would you fine with that?
It’s a contest, fair is fair is a coin flip.

      • givemeglenn says:

Don’t you know that chivalry ALWAYS allows a woman to go before a man? ;-)

      • givemeglenn says:

You see, if Phillip and Jessica were walking in a room together and came to a door, he would automatically open it and allow he to enter it first. THAT’s chivalry. That’s precisely what he allowed Jessica to do when he won the coin toss. Now if you’re suggesting he defer his winning the toss to her, my door opening analogy would be like him walking to the door as they got to the room, stopping there, then offering her the opportunity for her to open the door for him or “allowing” her to open the door for him.

The chivalrous thing for her to do would be to open the door for him in your theory, right? If that’s the case, then she should refuse his generous offer of taking his deferment because she would then be chivalrous. Do you see how ludacris this all sounds?

If Phillip WOULD have offered the choice and Jessica accepted, taking the last spot, would YOU then claim SHE was being selfish? I think not. Grow up.

    • deedee says:

Me too. Thank goodness for Michael Slezak and his always pitch-perfect assessment of the goings-on. I am comforted knowing that he and others here are feeling as dismayed as I am. It helps to share the misery, so thanks, y’all. :(

      • Ray says:

And ditto, me too. Joshua should have been in the finale, instead of Jessica. We all knew that Phillip was going to make it to the finale. It is hard to take when we lost Elise, then Skylar, and now Joshua.

        • JC says:

No way is Jessica not deserving to be in the finale. She worked hard all season long and she has shown consistency until last night but she had a sore throat. Nevertheless she deserves to be in the finale with Phillip or Joshua

      • sfbsailor says:

Second year in a row the contestant that should win goes home after top 3 or even earlier [Elise]. At least in many if not most prior seasons, the contestant that should have won was in the finale, even if they didn’t actually win.

      • MamaLis says:

Dee, there you are! How bummed were you last night!!! I saw you predicting it was Josh and I sure was hoping you were wrong! I’m gonna miss him next week, that’s for damn sure.

      • SlezakFan says:

I am also dismayed but I am also hopeful for a brilliant recording and music future for Joshua. Getting to the finals and winning the AI title are not equal to success as we all know by now – what’s really sad though is that we won’t be able to witness the greatness from him for one more time next week :-(

    • JudyVee says:

I am crying. Can’t believe it, feel dumb, but there it is – I cry. Just listening to Joshua sing his swan song made me slightly crazy thinking about the finale without him, thinking about him not getting enough votes to even be second. Seriously? I was hoping that the Hollie voters would move over to him after she was eliminated, but apparently they went to Jessica instead. Should have been Jessica and Joshua. Second best, Phillip and Joshua. I will miss the energy and passion he brought each week!

      • TheBeach says:

Some of my favorite all-time Idol contestants have come in third.

        • sfbsailor says:

My faves rarely win, exception Kelly and Fantasia. Fortunately, non-winners often do much better than winners and sometimes contestants eliminated 3rd, 4th or 5th do better than the winner. Clay had/has better career than Reuben. Kat and Kelly and Daughtry all have better careers than the ‘soul patrol’ guy. Adam far outshines the winner in his season. So I don’t much care if America “gets it right” since it doesn’t really matter that much.

BUT HEY.. LET’S ALL GO OUT AND BUY HALEY’S NEW RECORD — PREORDER ON ITUNES LIKE I DID!

      • Mary B says:

Hey I wasn’t a Joshua fan and I got all choked up. It was really sad.

    • Yo' says:

I figured Joshua would win only if P2 went bald before next week, but I certainly expected him to be in the finale. This makes for a very boring show next week, unless they let all the cast-offs sing in lieu of the winners. Terribly disappointing, but the best sing out in history.

      • idolmama says:

Well yes Wednesday’s show is probably going to be a snoozefest. Unless P2 repeats “Volcano” and if Jessica sings that slow quiet song again. Now what does that say, three weeks or is it two weeks later and I can’t even remember the song she sang. I am not really looking forward to Wednesday. But I am looking forward to Thursday’s show because guess what!!! We get to hear Elise sing again!!!!

    • shelbybb says:

Such poor losers – These reactions are very typical to where we are as a nation. If we don’t get our way, instant fame and fortune, we cry or get mad. All these kids have been seen by millions of people each week. Their future careers are theirs to make it or break it. Good luck to them all.
      ps – it’s a tv game show

    • Weep all you want people! It’s a matter of preference! Most people prefer P2 and Jessica and it’s time to get over your Joshua-should-be-in-the-finale cry! Vote to save your bet! Pathetic!

      • 5talentgirl says:

I don’t think it’s the number of PEOPLE who prefer Jessica and Philip, rather the number of VOTES they cast for them. Which isn’t really a fair way to judge popularity at all. Fewer people may just have voted many more time fore their favourites – others may not have afforded to/seen the need to do so. But AI likes the money the multiple vote system generates so seem reluctant to change the kind of ‘rigged’ voting system. Should be one man one vote or something a lot nearer to that. Successive votes are just to make money for the show.
I think Joshua should have won, with Jessica second.

        • chistosa says:

I agree with you about the number of votes rather than the number of voters. Certainly I would prefer that they limited the number of votes like other reality talent shows. Perhaps they would not have bragging rights for how many votes were cast but it would more accurately reflect the wish of all the voters. If someone only had a maximum of 10 votes per media, I suspect the results would be different.

    • Susan Sway says:

I too am throwing in the proverbial towel. The good news? Joshua will have a Grammy before Jessica graduates high school.

–A child of the 60s who actually watches this hot mess

  2. Miss Otis Regrets... says:

Just what I expected. Joshua was my favorite though, he did good. I put my $$$ for Jessica for the win. And let’s hope we can start next year without the WGWG whining and stop judging people by their race and sex. WWMLKD?

    • Miscellaneopolan says:

I’m going to throw my weight behind Jessica because I like her singing more than Phillip’s, but I also agree that a win for her would probably have something of an antiseptic effect on the people who have been crying WGWG for the past few years. It’d wipe the slate clean, which I think would be a good thing.
      .
But Joshua was my favorite of the Top 3. Luckily, Jimmy has all but guaranteed that Joshua will be signed, so at least we can look forward to an album and, more importantly, Joshua Ledet concerts at some point down the road.

      • deedee says:

Yeah, but even if he gets signed, chances are he won’t get the big promotional push, and it will take his album a full year to come out. Only the winner and runner-up ever get the label’s star treatment. Maybe Jimmy will Daughtry Josh, but I doubt it.
        .
Josh will be another Allison Iraheta, hugely talented, languishing with an unpromoted album that sells a few thousand – just enough to recoup the record company’s meager investment, and then unceremoniously dropped a year later.
        .
The only good bit here is that he can go gospel niche and make a decent living in a small market. Can’t really complain about that, considering he’ll be working in his chosen field. So there’s that.

        • darcy's evil twin says:

I still don’t understand why Allison Ihraheta was never a bigger star. Perhaps the unpromoted album/CD was the problem. The music industry is so bizarre – people that can’t sing are huge stars.

          • tarc says:

            Allison’s album was really good.

          • darcy's evil twin says:

            I know! Loved her!

          • deedee says:

They promote who can generate buzz and sell. If they truly want to promote somebody, they really push their radio singles until they catch. But that costs money, and they don’t usually do it for third, fourth, fifth place contestants (Daughtry is the exception).

          • JC says:

I love Allison’s debut album she deserves a bigger push. And I agree with Slezak Allison is the true 3rd place finisher of season 8 Danny who?

          • Suggestor says:

Allison and Jessica were classmates. One of Jessica’s biggest supporters. She was my favorite that season.

          • sfbsailor says:

Marketing and promotion are almost everything, and maybe a little bit of payola? or perhaps the success of bad singers is due to the fact that about 50% of americans are in the abysmally stupid category!

          • darcy's evil twin says:

didn’t Daughtry promote his own music?

          • chistosa says:

I loved her on Idol and on the Idol concert tour but when I saw her as the opening act for Adam Lambert’s concert tour I was shocked how poor her performance was. I couldn’t wait for her set to be over. As poised as she was during the competition, she was the opposite post Idol. Another reason for making kids wait until they are 18 to do this.

          • deedee says:

No, DET, as far as I know, TPTB brushed Taylor Hicks aside and focused on selling “the true winner” of season 5 – Daughtry. I think he got the biggest radio push of anyone from that year, and it worked.

          • darcy's evil twin says:

Oh, thanks deedee. Well then why in the world haven’t they worked harder to promote some of the other finalists. There has been some real talent on this show and I think they’re missing the boat.

        • MamaLis says:

You know what, I actually think they’re really going to get behind Josh. Jimmy knows the mistakes hes made and he knows he’s a got a fresh chance with Josh. The language he’s repeatedly used to describe Josh and the making of Josh’s record, etc… has been one of almost reverence. I get the feeling he knows he’s got something great in his hands.

          • deedee says:

And Josh has already been signed to “a huge deal” according to his facebook. Jimmy wasted no time, eh? This is a very good sign that Jimmy believes in him and will do right by him (*I hope*).

          • MamaLis says:

Wow! Josh has been signed already???? That’s so awesome! I SO hope they do right by him!

          • deedee says:

Well, that’s the rumor. A couple of sites are claiming that this morning Joshua posted a note on his fb page, thanking his supporters and telling them not to be sad because he’s already signed a “huge deal”. But the news has not been widely picked up, and I have not seen this message of his fb (maybe I don’t know where to look). Who knows. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s true.

    • Leo says:

So I bet the Idol team have really hard discussion whether to let “Asian-Filipino” girl or black guy to compete with WGWG in the finale.
That racist comment aside, I’m happy that it’s Jessica vs Philip in the finale. I don’t know. I’m never Joshua’s team. He screams into his every every every song. And it’s just kinda annoying. Jessica has big voice but she sometimes go slow and melodic (You’re So Beautiful, Dance WIth My Father), and Philip went crazy last night with his third performance.
Philip vs Jessica. I don’t care who wins! Jessica has already won it all!

  3. Gus says:

Best final 2 ever. Hope Jessica wins, but I’ll be happy no matter who finishes first place :)

    • Carmina says:

Agree. I couldnt care less who wins. The finale will be amazing regardless

    • TC says:

Best finale ever?? Are you kidding me??. Without Josh in it, this will be the MOST boring finale ever. If you want to talk best, talk Kris Allen vs. Adam Lambert, Kat McPhee vs Taylor Hicks, Bo Bice vs. Carrie Underwood or Ruben vs. Clay. This finale is a collosal flop and it hasn’t even started yet.

  4. ashley says:

    this is so upsetting!!!!!!!!!

  5. WishesRandyCouldn'tSpeak says:

    Weep.

  6. Jessica Sanchez WOW!. I thought the way the judges were going on and on about Joshua and Phillip last night that it was gonna be an all male finale. But Jessica is definitely the come back kid. After being eliminated only a few weeks ago she has made a stand. She obviously thought she was going, but thankfully she did not. I was hoping for a Joshua and Jessica finale, because that would have been epic. Sorry to see Joshua go he was a huge talent. Phillip has had a somewhat decent run and obviously has legions of fans, mostly female. Should be a really interesting finale a little less epic without Joshua but still pretty solid.

    • Tonia says:

I don’t buy that Jessica was in danger that week at all. Total set up to “save” her and then have her win it all.

      • deedee says:

Yes, I’ve been saying the same thing. Wonder who was really the bottom vote-getter that week!

      • Cris says:

I believe Jessica really got the least votes that week. The results are subject to audit. To manipulate them is a crime.

        • deedee says:

They didn’t send her home so the manipulation did not damage her or whoever was in the bottom. It was not a “crime” to pretend she was going home and then dramatically yank her back from the jaws of doom.

          • Cris says:

To declare her that she was a bottom, when in fact she is not, is a manipulation and a felony. The act of not sending her home, thus no damage, does not erase the culpability.

          • deedee says:

            lol, a felony.

          • MamaLis says:

I said that earlier, Dee. Now that she’s in the final two – seeing that Filipino vote – there’s no WAY she was the lowest vote! At that point she was right where she is right now – at the top. Which means that week – statistically speaking – over HALF of her voters had to suddenly stop! or get lazy. Oh – and they had to do it – coincidentally – the week before the “save” went bad.
Was waiting to see if she landed bottom again.. and she didn’t.
So… No. Don’t believe it happened.

          • Cris says:

Sorry MamaLis but got to say this… OMG, here we go again… the conspiracy theory! I wanted to leave the issue with Deedee on LOL status, but…

First, there’s no Filipino vote, just American vote.

Secondly, I am not a Math expert but I don’t subscribe to your statistical improbability. When you talk of statistics, did you consider the following:
            1. Total votes and distribution per week?
            2. Increase in total votes and their distribution per week?
            3. Decrease in number of contestants per week, yet total votes are higher than the previous
            week?
I want to make an illustrative example, but I will leave it to you to play with your own numbers.

I am a loyal Jessica fan. So I am grateful for the save. She deserved it.

          • MamaLis says:

Ok Chris. I’m not a Conspiracist by nature. At all. That’s my first. Second, I meant Filipino-American and Latino. You’re saying that’s not a huge part of her fan base? Did you see the hometown footage? Have you been to California? Regarding your statistical issues:
            1. blah
            2. blah blah
            3. blah blah blah
The points are nonsensical because #1 they just are and #2 we’re talking about her solid, loyal, and large, fanbase. The fanbase that exists now. The fanbase that existed then. In fact, compare her to Phillip. Had she not “mysteriously fallen” that week, Jessica would have followed the same trajectory as Phillip. Huge fanbase, always voting. Always at the top. To think that millions within this motivated group suddenly got ‘lazy’ – bringing her from top to bottom – & just that once..???? That whole night was odd. Anyway, I have no argument that she ‘deserved’ the save, Chris. Of course she did.

          • FreeHaley says:

It’s happened before where someone fell into bottom three suddenly. Also note that the voting was most likely exceptionally close for much of this season once it got to top 8 or so, for the first time ever dial idol had most things in random order, although they had gotten the very bottom spot correct still a fair amount, including the Colton shocker and Jessica shocker.

So voting is close, fans of a few contestants get the fear in them and vote like mad, Jessica’s fans think she is auto that week and….

          • Cris says:

MamaLis, you were talking of statistical improbability, so I was thinking quantitative. But since numbers are nonsensical to you, then I will leave it at that.
Maybe you can read FreeHaley’s comment for a qualitative analysis.
            And it’s Cris, not Chris.
            Cheers!

        • JASon says:

For off it’s not a crime. The producers of the show can do whatever they want at whatever time they want. It’s their show and not a traditional game show. But even if it was, since no contestant was eliminated that night there is no injured party who could sue if they found out it was a lie. There is no stipulation on the show that they can’t play favorites and have to be fair. In fact they play favorites and are grossly unfair every week in order to skew the results. The Jessica save fraud was just another way to play the audience and get her more votes,

          • Cris says:

I won’t argue with you that the producers can do what they think for their show, that judges can play favorite, that judges need not be impartial. However, they cannot manipulate the results.

          • Marsaili says:

I think it’s funny how people come up with these theories about how it’s all fixed when in reality, they really don’t know anything. No one knows the voting results, no one knows any of it except AT&T and the producers–and it IS illegal to tamper with the votes—they cannot say someone is in the bottom 3 or has been eliminated if they aren’t/haven’t been—they just can’t.

          • h badger says:

Exactly, this show doesn’t not have to follow the same laws as game shows, it is a “reality show”. Some day stop at the end and read the fine print they post, they can randomly remove calls/texts as they see fit. Also pay attention to when Ryan says you are going home versus the person in last place. They have in the past also sent a couple of contestants back to safety almost right away which give people the subconscious idea that they were first/no where near the bottom.

          • JASon says:

If the final results are never thrown out then give me one good reason why the results are never published after the season is over!!!. There is none. In England X factor is obligated to show the results at the end because they charge people for the calls!!! Idol has no obligation!!

        • chistosa says:

It is not a crime as in legally prohibited. The fine print says as much. However I watched that over and over and Ryan specifically said that she was the lowest vote getter and thus getting eliminated. If the save had already been used she would have left the competition that week. There is no way the producers would fake that. If it got out that they lied about the vote tallies, the show would be done. The manipulate other ways to try and get their wishes such as judging comments, song clearances, performance order etc. but once the votes are cast the eliminate the lowest vote getter.

        • chris says:

Sorry to burst your bubble but AI has the right to disregard the vote. It is in the contract the contestants sign.

          • Cris says:

I think what you are referring to is the screening of votes, as to whether they are valid or not, based on set of rules. I am talking of the manipulation of the valid votes, after they have been determined as valid.

    • Miss Otis Regrets... says:

Seriously? Jessica could have sacrificed a teacup pig on stage and that wouldn’t stop her ascent into the top 2. Her fans were solid. You guys need to pay attention more.

      • ladyhelix says:

She is the one the Judges had to save, isn’t she? Or maybe I wasn’t paying close enough attention.

        • Miscellaneopolan says:

If she wins it would certainly make the Save seem more relevant. It would be like she won the title after coming back from the dead.
          .
          Zombie Idol.

        • Joey Martin says:

You don’t know the fanaticism on Jessica’s bandwagon. They awakened from complacency after the “save”. The Phillips boat is now encircled by the BB Chez sharks. They can smell blood. And P.S. I voted 500 times for Le Jess last night because of that sweet smell….Bwahhhaaahaaa!!!

          • ivy says:

hahaha. do not under estimate the power of BB Chez fan club! ;)

          • deedee says:

Well, then I hope you also buy 500 of her albums to save her from other Top 40 artists who might overtake her sales numbers.

          • Joey Martin says:

@deedee I’m not interested on album sales of her or any other. I just like to piss off suckers like you to this stupid show.

          • deedee says:

Ah, a noble pursuit, Joey Martin. You must be a real scholar.

          • JC says:

Jessica is huge and she has all of those celebrity supporters she might win but it will always be a 50/50 Phillip is starting to show his artistry so Jessica better bring it her all :)

          • Jose Matutina says:

@deedee How did you know? My life is all about the noble Man’s pursuits, his place in the universe…his Reason for Being. What is yours? LOL!

          • me says:

deedee… you’re such a loser! just like your Joshua ledet idol… too bad! i really feel for you… hahahahahahahaa….

          • Marsaili says:

Wow, that’s so—elementary school of you.

          • deedee says:

Get help, “me”. It’s not too late.

      • tarc says:

I’m surprised about Jessica, but not Phillip. I can’t say that I mind jessica being in the Top 2 either. All three have such potential.

      • MamaLis says:

Exactly! Come on, guys. Just look at the numbers. Take everything out of it, and look at the math.
[Actually, once you do that, look at how ‘the math’ happened to [not] line-up with the magical week “the save” was going to “go away.”]

    • Angela says:

Going into tonight, I definitely thought Jessica was going to go home, so it was a real shock when she was the first person to be called safe. I’m happy she’s safe in that I hope she can step it up from last night, but if I had to choose between her and Joshua, I’d easily choose Joshua.

      • john says:

This is the part of the season where everyone starts complaining about how the voting system works: personality vs talent, regular guy vs real artist, etc.
I would suggest the following: have 50% of the vote decided by artists and producers in the industry (kind of like “the academy” for the Oscars), and the other 50% by the general public (one vote per phone number or IP address). That way, people like Joshua, who awed everyone in the industry that encountered him (Little Steven, Mary J Blige, Stevie Nicks, Jimmy, etc), will get their fair shake even if their musical style doesn’t necessarily appeal to the masses. And if Phillip is truly unique as a musician, he will also get his due from the industry, but not coast through purely on his looks and likability. This would also limit the chances of another Lee Dwyze, whom I assume the industry would not have supported over Crystal Bowersox.
It’s a tricky dilemma the producers are presented with. On one hand, the popular person that gets a ton of votes may not be the best singer or performer but logic dictates that this person gets people in front of their TVs to watch. In other words, they are good for reality TV but may not be good for record sales.
If they adjust the show to put the best singers through to the top, the popular people could get knocked off and ratings could start to slide as you moved towards the finale.
The judges blather on about how this is a singing competition but in reality, that is only one of the rings in the circus. It’s what makes this show terrible and great at the same time.

    • sfbsailor says:

A finale with two so-called minority contestants. Not very likely in this country.

  7. Chris says:

While I’m super glad Jessica made it…I think Phillip should have gone home. His last performance last night and Volcano were flawless but the road to this point has been far rockier than Joshuas. BUT I’m stoked Jessica made it!

    • pmcd says:

I have favoured Jessica from the start. I don’t really care for the type of music that Joshua sings or would branch into. Not really into Soul, R&B, etc… but I was amazed at how great a singer he was. It is just wrong that the finale wasn’t JS and JL. Phillip is charming and likeable, but he seems to be a very weak singer. For the life of me I can’t figure out why people kept going on about the Bob Seger song. He missed more notes than he got. Listen to almost any country version of that song and you can hear what a beautiful song it is. Even Kenny Rogers, no powerhouse singer, has a great version of it. Phillip’s version, to me, was very mediocre. Not as bad as his Zombies’ song which was truly bad. Volcano was indeed very good and I thought that he had finally done something neat until I heard the original on You Tube which Phillip copied exactly. So much for a creative interpretation.

Jessica and Joshua are in a different category than Phillip. It should not even have been a decision to make unless you take vocal ability completely out of the show. The last time I was this shocked was when Blake Lewis was selected over Melinda Doolittle.

I don’t know why some keep going on about Jessica’s age or the Filipina aspect ( as far as I know she isn’t Filipina – born in the US and her father is not Filipino). A lot of musically people have been discovered at a far younger age.

I suspect Jessica and Joshua split the votes of people who appreciate true vocal ability. If that is the case then the finale will prove interesting.

      philip

      • Cris says:

pmcd, Jessica’s mom is of Filipino descent. Her dad is part Mexican. Nonetheless, I agree with you, her age should be of no issue. Nor her ancestry, since after what’s been said and done, she still is an American.

  8. anon! says:

    jessica for the win!

    • Vince says:

YESSSSSS!!!!! Jess for the win. Bottom line, she and Phil are relevant, current. Josh is not. No doubt he can sing, I mean scream. Guess what, Phil can sing too! So tired of the comments that he’s not a talented singer. He’s just different. Unique. Unlike Josh. America got it right. There is no getting it wrong. The most votes win. Plain and simple. If josh were truly so beloved, he would have gotten the votes, no matter who they came from. Personally, best results show ever!

      • ladyguard says:

Phillip and Jessica are current? I don’t think so. Phillip cannot sing. He is bad probably the worst one of the top 13 this year. If American Idol wants to keep it’s credibility it will eventually have to change that voting system. Otherwise the WGWG will continue to win and people will look elsewhere for their entertainment because AI has become too predictable. Wow, who knew that the final would end up with Jessica and Phillip. I knew the first time they showed the top 13

        • idolmama says:

Philip and Jessica are current? I still don’t hear Jessica singing current songs. Just don’t get it. Philip may well be current. He will fit right in with all the other current singers who can’t stay on pitch or sing a melody or talk sing their way through a song

  9. Lourdes says:

Really sad Joshua didn’t make it .. however his singout was as triumphant as Allison Iraheta singing “Cry Baby”. I think Joshua is just on another level of awesome, and we KNOW we haven’t heard the last of him!

    • Tonia says:

Would have been better if JLo hadn’t hogged him for so long.

      • WishesRandyCouldn'tSpeak says:

damn that woman, she never seems to do anything right :@

      • AE says:

But did you hear the a-mah-zing sound coming out of his mouth while JLo was hogging him? “P to the meh power” couldn’t have done that if he tried. Jessica all the way, now!

    • Fan of Haley Rhinehart says:

yes Allison Iraheta was the best ever on Idol her voice brings me to tears It was sad how Simon Bashed Allison like a baby seal. Joshua was my second favorite after Allison. The showmanship of Joshua was outstanding

    • deedee says:

And Hollie’s and Haley’s singouts too!

      • Terry says:

Say Randy and J-Lo have you seen them yet, whoa but they’re so spaced out, B-B-B-Bennie and Steven, oh but they’re weird and they’re wonderful. HALEY FTW!!! Debut album drops May 22nd, ‘Listen Up!’ be sure and support her by buying it next Tuesday, I know I will be!!!

    • JC says:

I cried so hard when Allison was eliminated and she was crying while singing cry baby that is the best ai sing out ever no one comes close :)

  10. well CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAP, i just cant win this season

  11. Unhappy says:

It just ain’t right. And it’s not okay.

    • kate says:

I honestly think “No More Drama” was the most emotional performance I’ve ever seen on this show. And it kills me that someone could possibly get sent home after something like that. NO ONE sings like him. No one in the history of this show.

      • tarc says:

I’m a big Mary J fan, and raised here in Motown, and I have to say, Joshua’s No. More. Drama! was not good. It sounded OK if you don’t know the original, but it was not at all good in comparison. I’m guessing that’s why he didn’t make it – that or the ‘reading light’ factor.

        • Erin says:

I completely agree that this was the moment he lost this competition. It was too forced from the beginning (with the jumping) and really way too much contrived holleration at the end. It was like Jimmy told him: “really go crazy at the end and act all into it.” Can I get a “self indulgent” from the Simonites?

          • elisefan44 says:

i completely disagree with y’all – i loved joshua’s ‘no more drama’ and i’m a huge fan of the mary j original. i felt every emotion from him coming through the tv screen, seriously, that was my fav performance of his for the night, and that’s saying something, because i loved them all. loved. it. so devastated that he’s gone from the competition now…

      • SanDiegoCat says:

You have to understand that most of us HATED No More Drama! Joshua’s screeching voice was like fingernails on a chalkboard. He actually hurt our ears! And he WOULDN’T STOP SCREECHING! It was awful. I know you Joshua fans are saying that the people left aren’t as talented, but if that awful noise is what you call talent, the world is better off without it.

        • Vince says:

          I second that! Amen!

        • Chris says:

And just exactly who is “most of us” SanDiegoCat?? I’m reading this post and there are an awful lot of Joshua fans, including myself, who feel he deserved to go to the finals based on all of his stellar performances (and there have been a LOT) this season. That includes Michael Slezak and Melinda Doolittle. I’d listen to Josh’s “awful noise” any day of the week over medicore P2 or “no emotion” Jessica

      • Chris says:

I don’t know about that. His “When A Man Loves a Woman” was absolutely incredible. He has so many awesome performances this year, it’s hard to believe he’s not in the finale. A Jess vs. P2 finale will be horrid-one that I won’t watch

  12. Tonia says:

I can’t shake the fealing that Jessica will win over my favorite P.P. I feel it’s what The Powers That Be have wanted all along. They learned their lesson from the over pimapage of LaurenAlaina and went soft on Jessica. They never really praised her really compared to others and I don’t for one second beleiee she was in danger of going home that week. They set it up so they could “save” her and have her go on to win the whole damned thing. It was a total set-up. I don’t think PP stands a chance, sadly. I am in shock that Jessica is in the finale..but I shouldn’t be. I guess I’m more in shock that Joshua isn’t. I love PP the most, but I don’t have a good feeling about this. It should have been a boy-boy finale.

    • Tommyo2000 says:

Not sure if you are right … as a Jessica fan I feel that the judges are saying good things about her but the enthusiasm and body language was seemed more obligatory then genuine … Unless her number have been so strong that they were not even worried … but she still needed the save …

    • Kirk Sansom says:

Crystal was a shoe in to win 2 years ago. The judges and everyone else thought so. Until the last couple of weeks then they started ranting about Lee. I think they need to change the voting system. Limit it to one per person and each person would have to register their information so there would be no duplicates.

      • jonibug says:

I agree that the voting should have a limit like Dancing With the Stars and The Voice have!

        • TheBeach says:

I so agree with a voting limit even if it means Ryan can’t say “After 90 million votes…” I stopped voting several years ago (unless you count purchasing the occasional song on itunes) because my measly 10 or so votes are meaningless with this “power voting” fiasco.

      • Miscellaneopolan says:

My idea (because I’m sure you want to hear my idea): limit the number of votes available on a given night to however many contestants are singing that night minus one. On top 10 night, you’ve got nine votes. On Top 5 night, four votes. That way people could still spread around their votes if they wanted to but couldn’t vote so much for one person that the rest of the voting public feels disenfranchised.

      • Ray says:

The main problem is the text voting. Voters, like many of us, cannot compete when a person can vote thousands of times in the two hours.

    • It will be so sweet to see the Phillippines’ power voters destroy the inbred hillbilly hero! After years of the worst defeating the best because of manic power voters, oh sweet revenge as the tables are turned. What? You didn’t you hear the latest conspiracy theory? Top 7, foreign facebook votes didn’t work because of ‘maintenance’. But those tens of millions of votes will be coming in solid for the finale! lol

      • darcy's evil twin says:

I’m about one more stupid comment like yours away from wishing the Japanese had wiped out everyone in the Philippines in WWII.

        • Joey Martin says:

Oh my!!! That was about 70 years ago…And besides, Philippines was a protectorate of the US during WWII just like Puerto Rico today. In essence, Philippines was part of the US. Why not let the Filipinos be part of the voting process…you sourgrape you!!!

        • darcy the slutty twin says:

Oh, Twin, do not let those stupid fans get to you. Jessica and Phillip are both deserving. And the Philippines is a lovely country with lovely people. There are, of course, a few turds. Just like anywhere else.

        • HudsonRiverside says:

Really darcy? You need to read up on your history. The Philippines was THE ally of the US during WW2 in Asia. Read about the Bataan Death March. The punk above has a twitter timeline and there’s no indication he is even Filipino. Just a fanatic. Don’t need to sink to that level and say something horrible.

        • darcy's evil twin says:

Oh for Heaven’s sake, I do know my history – Guam and The Philippines were ceded to the U.S. in The Treaty of Paris at the end of the Spanish-American war. That was the question that gave me the win the last time we played Trivia at a local bar. Yes, I know we were allies. I’m just a little tired of all the hoopla here about The Philippines. It’s American Idol.
And I apologize for my comments.

          • darcy the slutty twin says:

I agree with you. And I think it’s unfair for these turds to keep bringing the Philippines in these threads. As if the people of the Philippines have nothing better to do and wait for the voting window to illegally phone in their votes for a reality show contestant of mixed descent. And as if Idol can’t tell that votes are coming from another geographical location. And as if it’s possible at all. Like I said, the top two are deserving and the winner: ME. I get to see both Phillip and Jessica’s dad next week! I cannot wait!

          • Suggestor says:

To support that I went on the official AI site and someone posted the illegal voting question which they finally addressed tonight:

            “AIMODwrote:
Votes that originate outside of the US are not counted.

Telescope, the independent vote management company that oversees the voting for Idol and other shows, can detect origin.”

        • Dani says:

This is the most hateful thing I’ve ever read on any of these posts. Wishing an entire country wiped out because some troll pissed you off? What an a$$. And you just brush off the response with a “Oh, for Heaven’s sake…” I’ve heard survivors of WWII in the Philippines tell stories of Filipino babies thrown in the air and stabbed with bayonets. You are one giant douche.

          • Marsaili says:

Hear that WHOOSH sound? It’s the sound of sarcasm going over your head. If you honestly believe that someone would actually wish something like that to happen, you may be too naive to be on the internet.

          • Terri says:

            It went too far.

          • Dani says:

Sarcasm or not, her comment went too far. And I don’t believe it was sarcasm. She herself mentioned that she was pissed off that the Philippines kept being brought into the conversation. And then she made an earlier post that certain people weren’t grateful that America saved the Philippines’ a$$. Wow. What an ignorant post.

          • darcy's evil twin says:

Folks, it was sarcasm, and I apologized for the remark. I spent a lot of my youth with people from the Philippines because I was a military brat. they were lovely people. And the food wasn’t bad either!

      • Joey Martin says:

Shhh!! This must be done on the down low….Let’s not be over-excited now….

      • darcy's evil twin says:

In fact, I’m now officially voting for P2 in the final because Jessica’s fans are obviously racist and don’t appreciate the fact we saved The Philippines’ *** from total annihilation. Stuff it, PunkSkittle.

        • Joey Martin says:

The US and Philippines were allies. Don’t let this stupid show ruin that great friendship between nations during a time of great importance. Millions of Filipinos died during that war to fight side by side with the US and many of my forefathers were one of them.

        • HudsonRiverside says:

I voted for BOTH and I won’t sink so low as to demean other countries and call the racism card when it’s some anonymous poster coming on board. Who cares? PLus, The Philippines was a crucial strategic territory for the US, hundreds of thousands of Filipinos died because they sided with the US. The same passion they exhibit for silly tv shows they had even more protecting the US soldiers stationed there and died right beside them when the US fell, and needed the people of the islands to SAVE them until more troops arrived years later.

          • fiona says:

Random history fact: out of all the countries allied with the United States during WWII, Filipino soldiers were the only ones not given veteran rights until very recently (and still quite limited might I add)

Just thought I’d put that in there since you all like to talk about history =P

        • darcy's evil twin says:

Yes, I know, I have apologized for my comment.

      • darcy's evil twin says:

Oh, and P.S., PunkSkittle – “Philippines” is spelled with one “l”.

      • With fans like you, Jessica must be SO proud.

      • deedee says:

You are an embarrassment, “PunkSkittle”. Bleh.

      • TheBeach says:

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Please be advised that currently all bridges are safe to cross as the trolls have gathered en masse at their computer central. That is all.

      • givemeglenn says:

You have no right to ever call another person a racist in your life. Have you ever met Phillip Phillips, his family, or his friends? Well, I happen to be in that circle, and I can assure you that I’m not “inbred” nor a “hillbilly”. In fact, I have a Law Degree, my brother is one of the most respect Cardiologists in the world, my brother-in-law is one of the top in the entire SE US, my Uncle is a former President of AAP (American Association of Pediatrics), my niece, one of Hannah’s good friends, has a FULL SCHOLARSHIP to Northwestern University, need I go on? Phillip is exactly what you see on TV; humble and talented.

You people hating on Phillip; he was late to his own concert because he was at the hospital with the kids at the pediatric ward longer than expected. Was THAT shown on TV? No; because while all that was going on, he was also seeing his own doctor receiving medical treatment. He isn’t looking for any sympathy or any excuses. If any of you think you have the “stones” to be able to even stand up, much less get up in front of a live audience and millions of people watching across the country on TV and try to perform while enduring the medical condition Phillip has, then walk that mile in his shoes.

Not once has Phillip made any derogatory comment about any other singer; in fact, he has made one of his closest friends since he joined the show, Heejun. Now I ask you, is HE an “inbred hillbilly,” too?

        • darcy's evil twin says:

@givemeglenn – I get it. I am originally from the south. Everyone thinks we’re all a bunch of inbred hillbillies. The guy made me angry as well now everyone thinks I hate Filipinos which is NOT true. When I was young some kids from the Philippines taught me how to tie strings to chicken necks and stake them out to catch crabs in the shallows. Some of the Jessica fans are just crazy.
I went to the “Idol” website and watched the end of Joshua’s exit performance. I thought it was especially nice when P2 took the mic and said, “If that isn’t singing, I don’t know what is”.

        • Just Breathe says:

Just a reminder, this is a TV show. What in the heck are you letting yourself get so frickin’ upset about? Will any of this matter a year from now?
Weren’t there just as many people upset the year that Bo Dice and Chris Daughtry lost??? We all know P2 is gonna win, regardless. So take swig on your Coca-Cola and CHILL>

    • Phillip is good in the Ford videos, but otherwise no.

    • kate says:

I find it nearly impossible to say the producers or judges want Jessica to win after they saddled her with the disaster that was “My All.” Literally the biggest sabotage since Paula made Danny Gokey sing “You Are So Beautiful.”

      • kate says:

Or not “You are so beautiful” but rather that terrible 80s dance track that no one in the voting public was aware of.

        • Kathryn says:

uh, Kate, just for historical accuracy – a) I think you’re referring to the song ‘dance little sister’ by the ‘obscure’ Terence Trent D’Arby and b) nice way to skate over Gokey self-sabotage in slaughtering ‘Dream On’ in the delusional belief he had anything like Adam Lambert’s range/control followed up by singing a duet w/Kris Allen that was so competitive and just bad (he messed up the lyrics) that Michael and our beloved Kristen B. referred to it as more like Mortal Combat, the Duet. Let us not indulge in Idol historical revisionism lol. Thank god that top 3 worked out – though come to think of it, historical revisionism does have its upside – a lot of people still believe Allison Iraheta came in 3rd – which of course she did. (nods vigorously)

          • tarc says:

There wasn’t a thing I could stand about Gokey, but I miss Terrence Trent Darby! The World According To.. was such an amazing album.

      • Addie says:

My thoughts exactly. It totally reminded me of Paula’s horrible song choice for Danny Gokey.

    • Angela says:

Wait, seriously? Phillip Phillips has never even been in the bottom 3. I think they wanted Jessica out this week.

    • Cris says:

The save was not a set-up. Results are audited. AI to manipulate them is a crime.

  13. anibundel says:

God next week is going to be so BORING.

    • Leo says:

I expect it will be similar to last season’s finale. A total snorefest. A robotic pageant singer vs. a guy who stands still and strums a guitar while making constipated faces. Yawn.

      • Exactly. I’ll probably do what I did last year: fast forward through everything except the actual singing. Whittled the entire two hour performance finale down to nine minutes. And even those nine minutes were boring.

    • ladyhelix says:

I’m excited for the results show – it’s going to be GREAT. The finalists will all be back – Skyler, Colton, Elise, Josua, Erika, DeAndre, Holly – plus Phillip & Jessica. Should be a great show.

      • Miscellaneopolan says:

Amen. I am VERY much looking forward to seeing what the Top 10, minus maybe Heejun, pull out. The finale should be fun; at least the final two aren’t the same kind of singers like they were last year, but the results show should be terrific.

    • pmcd says:

If you find it boring then do something else. I think this year has been pretty good. There have been some really good singers ( Elise, Hollie, Jessica, Joshua and some others). The only thing that seemed to go wrong was Phillip over Hollie. It’s not that Phillip is not talented. He’s just not a very good singer ( like Dylan, Leonard Cohen and many of the singer songwriters). Maybe he will write neat songs.

In any case I suspect the finale will be anything but boring. It will be someone who can sing vs someone who can’t but is popular.

There is nothing wrong with teenage girls skewing the votes. They buy most of the music.

      philip

  14. Stevie says:

Wow, with Elise out and NOW Joshua I really have no reason to watch the finale. Guess I will be rooting for Phillip.

  15. Taylor says:

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

    • john says:

That’s what I said after Adam Lambert’s song. It amazes me that someone who so dominated every week on this show could make such an insipid, hookless song. He must be able to hear how bad it is. Somebody get him a better producer. Why can’t Esther Dean whip him up something like she does for just about everone else on the charts?

  16. loribell says:

Ugh! I cannot believe Joshua was sent home. This is just so wrong!

    • Yuan says:

Im sure joshua fans felt he is safe because of jessica was at her lowest performance, but doesnt matter. Its obvious, jessica got highest votes. It was a fight between josh and pp for 2nd place!

      • TheBeach says:

And why do you assume that? Jessica was merely the first one sent to safety. There was no mention of vote totals. They probably announced it that way so Ryan could have his dramatic moment.

  17. WishesRandyCouldn'tSpeak says:

From the majority of the top 13, it seemed like it would be so amazing to have a J&J finale whether you rooted for those two the whole way or not….and once I saw Jessica make it (YAY!) i thought we’d get this spectacular battle royale of two awesome singers. But no. I’m not saying Philip sucks, or isn’t an awesome singer … I’m talking about a pure awesome VOCAL battle (cuz that’s what I prefer IMO),,,but sadly we won’t get that.

  18. im really upset that joshua went, it should have been jessica. i always love all the passion joshua puts in songs. jessica is to young to even understand what she’s singing, very very very disappointed.

    • Mary says:

I agree that Joshua should have been in the finals, bit it should of been pp to go not Jessica. this would of been a perfect finale if the two Js made it. Oh well, Hopefully Jessica will win. I think it is ironic that PP wasn’t force to drop out. If he wins he won’t be able to do the promotion and if he is so popular, it could hurt the tour sales, the winner would not be they for the first month of the tour. Obviously his fans don’t care if he is there.

      • kate says:

        What are you talking about?

        • Mary says:

PP is having surgery right after the finale. he father stated he would miss part of the tour, I assume the beginning, so if you like PP and he hits your town first, well you might be out of luck.
That is what I am talking about.

    • Cris says:

So Joshua at 20 can fully understand what he was singing? He is a gospel singer and to pick an atheist song, Imagine, was a sign of his lack of knowledge of what he was singing.

      • Jeff says:

Imagine isn’t really an atheist song (no religion) just like it isn’t an anarchy song (no countries). It is about imagining the removal of all the barriers that divide us (countries, war, religion, greed, hunger, etc.). Whether you are religious or not, you have to admit that religion divides humanity. Liking and understanding the theme of the song (a brotherhood of man) does not mean you are ready to give up your religion or your citizenship. Of course, there are many American christians who feel persecuted and never get beyond the ‘no religion’ line to examine the real meaning of the song. So, you may be right that it cost Joshua.

        • sfbsailor says:

sorry… to any fighting fundy christian.. ‘imagine there’s no heaven’… ‘no hell’ is blasphemous! they may well have been turned off by that song choice.

          • john says:

I am not religious but when Randy is speaking, I believe I am in hell, so maybe I am a little religious.

      • marie says:

I can say the same thing about Jessica. At least Joshua sang his songs convincingly and with real emotion.

    • Suggestor says:

I remember being sixteen and universal themes such as love, hope, dreams, goals, frustration, fears, joy, defiance were all in my peer’s radar. She’s not an embryo.

    • MamaLis says:

My favorite was the Shannon Magraine stank-eye when they announced Jessica’s name! I hit rewind and did a, “Say Whaaat?” She was NOT happy when they said her name and seemed to visibly process that Phillip wasn’t going anywhere.. which meant her buddy likely was. :(

  19. fanboy says:

a girl will win the whole thing! that is jessica sanchez!

  20. RLH says:

Weeping. Nothing else to say :(

  21. chelle says:

I am having a hard time believing anyone is surprised by this. At least Philip is a nice guy. It would be so much worse if he was a dbag.

    • aravis says:

Well if he was a dbag (or seemed like one) he’d never have gotten this far. I was hoping for a Josh vs Jess finale myself.

  22. annehedonia says:

Hideous. I feel bodyslammed after the wonderful exuberant high of Adam Lambert. Joshua had the biggest personality and the brightest talent. Sighhhhh.

  23. Amy says:

I am so sad, though not shocked. All my favorites have gotten eliminated: Skylar, Colton, and now Joshua. Oh well. Still better than last year’s final 2.

  24. Arielle says:

Hmm…well not surprised at all that Phillip is through, he probably had lots of teen girl speed dialers voting the entire period. Between Jessica and Joshua, my guess is that people were more worried about Jessica getting eliminated (well, at least I was) so they ended up voting more for her.

    • TheKapayapaanGuy says:

I thought the same thing. Jessica wasn’t at her best last night – causing the public to vote for her more. I was really hoping for a Joshua – Jessica finale.

    • D says:

Teen girls are voting for Jessica…..WOMEN are voting for Phillip!

      • chistosa says:

Many males are voting for Phillip. I read the posts on other sites. Many of those praising him are male. Teen girls don’t watch or vote. Any women voting for Phillip are voting for his vocal style. Now that Joshua is out, if I vote at all it most likely will be for Phillip because I don’t enjoy watching Jessica perform.

  25. Carmina says:

SLEZAK – 10 weeks of standing ovations. 10 weeks of screeching. And you’re surprised he got booted? Maybe your fandom is blurring your logic.

  26. Babs says:

Seriously. My heart broke for the second time this season (Colton was the first). Will not watch finale, will NOT buy either finalists CD…….I don’t expect everyone to agree withy taste, but obviously I am watching the wrong show as I cant understand what America is thinking….

  27. hakim says:

yeaaah! jessica will win the crown! american idol 2012!

  28. Jessica says:

*weep* So wrong. So very wrong.

  29. ali427 says:

The best singers end up at #3. Melinda, Elliott, Haley, now Joshua. What a shame.

  30. Donna says:

    Completely ridiculous…….

  31. Kirk Sansom says:

I guess y’all don’t recognize what a fan base is. Phillip earned his and J-Lo gave Jessica hers. Go on hate me, but it’s true.

    • Terri says:

J Lo said she wanted PP to win. It must be in her contract that her favorites make the final.

      • chistosa says:

Throughout the weeks she also said she wanted Joshua to win and other times she said she wanted Jessica to win. Hyperbole at the time of judging. Change of opinion with the next performer. Means nothing

    • Owen says:

Okay, come on. Why do you people just lie? Its not like we weren’t watching the same show you were. If you had said STEVEN gave it to Jess, maybe I wouldn’t think you were just a nasty piece of work trying to tear down a talented little girl on our little boards here. But we’re not stupid, Kirk.

      • Kirk Sansom says:

JLo gave it to Jessica when she grabbed the microphone from her and said America you got it wrong.

        • Owen says:

Oh, I see what you mean. I still don’t agree but the comment wasn’t quite as arbitrarily malicious as I thought. Sorry, dude.

  32. Tonia says:

If Jessica wins (and I think she will), this will be the first time in all 11 seasons that I will be upset about who won. Even when Adam didn’t win, I wasn’t angry about Kris. Same with Crystal/Lee…same with Scotty/Haley. I never thought, “The winner sucks!” This will be the first time I honestly can’t stand the winner.

    • bj says:

HOW SAD ALL YOUR HATE ! MAY GOD BLESS YOU ! AND I PRAY OUR JESSICA WINS !

      • deedee says:

Calm the f* down and please stop yelling. Please stop accusing people who don’t like your idol of hate. Can’t tell you how idiotic it sounds.

      • NedPepper says:

Jessica seems to have the crazy fanbase. Phillip has the hormonal. Crazy vs. horny. That’s our finale! :)

        • darcy's evil twin says:

Oh crap, you get a Made Me Laugh. :-)

        • deedee says:

ROFL! Our new selling point – Joshua Fans: not crazy or hormonal!

          • TC says:

Spot on NedPepper!! Ha ha! I’ have noticed that Jessica fans seem to like to type in ALL CAPS and are a bit crazy-referring to her as “our Jessica” and begging people to vote for her (no thanks). What’s going to happen in three weeks when no one remembers who the AI finalists even are?? What will all the ridiculous Jessica fans do??? Crazy vs. hormonal is not a finale I care to watch!!!!

        • darcy the slutty twin says:

These horny women lusting after Phillip are so delusional. I have it in good authority that Phillip has been sending me subtle sexual signals when performing. Every time he let’s out a tuft of chest hair, I know it is FOR ME. Only me. And there will be no loser between these two. Jessica should take comfort in the fact that her dad is hot and as a singer, she ain’t bad. Not bad at all.

    • shyne says:

LOL uh oh I can smell racism in here. I love JESSICA! She’s too young to have such talent and she will be more than that! I love that you’re pissed. :)))

    • Sandi says:

That’s your opinion. I couldn’t disagree more. And I hope your strong dislike of Jessica is based on your musical taste because she’s done nothing to earn anyone’s distaste of her on a personal level.

      • TheKapayapaanGuy says:

I’m with your reply to Tonia. I do hope that his/her dislike to Jessica is based on the type of music he/she likes.

    • Are you a terrorist or something? You should be supporting Jessica and her war hero daddy. That’s how a real man carried his gun… into battle. Not around the pawn shop.

      • Marsaili says:

Now you are just being an ass—you did hear that the pawn shop is in a bad neighborhood, right? How do you know that Phillip’s dad wasn’t in the reserves like Jessica’s dad or in the regular army/military? You don’t!!

      • Suggestor says:

Many Pawn shop workers carry firearms for security reasons. Also, people in the service like Jessica’s father don’t really like being called “war hero” so casually. It is not their nature to think that way.

      • givemeglenn says:

Got some news for you, “buddy,” Phillip’s Dad has been working TWO jobs for about 25 years; his MAIN job has been on the US Marine Base in Albany, GA; the largest Marine Logistic Base in the WORLD. He has his Pawn Shop as his SECOND job trying to take care of his family because he wanted to give them a better life. Hoo Rah

    • Joey Martin says:

I’m a psychic. I predict that Wednesday night next week, your housemates will call 911 since you were trying to down a bottle full of xanax with a bottle of Merlot (mind you- a classy way to go).

      • Art says:

You’ve got to get a new deck of Tarot cards. Next week P2 and TinyMite are going to be struck by the mumps and unable to perform. Joshua and Holley will be called back to the final and Joshua will go strangely go gospel like his early season while Hollie picks a good song. The first girl in a long time will win the title.
Sadly the 911 system will be overloaded while they start to announce all these unexpected changes and 14 babies will be delivered in the back of minivans instead of at hospitals. Also the Pope will rename Wednesday to Thursday, but I’m not sure I see that as clearly. ;D

    • kate says:

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is exactly what is wrong with the voting public for this show. Pure talent will never, ever win.

  33. Lee says:

What a sad night – Joshua Ledet deserved to win. He is incredible

  34. Carrie says:

Noooooo! My brain cannot process this.

  35. Frank O'File says:

You’re wrong. You got Philip who never met a melody he liked, and generic belter Jessica who still doesn’t know who she is. Joshua was a once-in-a-lifetime talent. AI blew it.

    • tarc says:

Considering he did multiple songs dead on the melody, you’re confusing style and artistry with ability. AI did great, as did America’s voters.

      • Frank O'File says:

You’re right. He sang the melody three or four times. I didn’t say he couldn’t. He just prefers mud.

        • tarc says:

Or genius, as the case may be. That ‘mud’ certainly earned by iTunes dollars this season.

          • D says:

I have bought every one of Phillip’s songs on Itunes this year! And I would’ve bought the videos — especially VOLCANO — if they had been available like they were in the past.

          • NedPepper says:

You know what would be even better? Buying the original Volcano by the original artist, Damien Rice instead of a guy copying it on a talent show.. Trust it, it’s better.

          • tarc says:

I own it, Ned. O and 9 and Live From The Union Chapel) and (I think) the B-sides EP. I have a LOT of music. I rather like Phillip’s take… it’s more haunting but less gloomy.

          • MamaLis says:

I admit. I’ve bought a lot of Phillip’s stuff. I just dig it.

    • sfbsailor says:

I don’t at all get the philip love. i watch online streaming and i couldn’t even stand to listen to most of his performances, skipping past them after a few bars and also skipping judges’ inane comments. The crazy faces he made while singing were a huge turnoff. I did listen to his 3rd vocal last night.. the only one what sound reasonably sane to me. I listen to a few bars next week and see if i can tolerate the performance. But regardless, if I vote, I’ll be voting big time for Jessica. JESSICA FOR THE WIN!!!!

  36. Michael says:

Next week, I would suspect most of Joshua’s votes will go to Phillip or no vote at all. If the voter was voting for a “girl”, then they would not have voted for Jessica to begin with. And while Joshua was probably the best of Jessica and Phillip, Josh has more soul and personality than the robotic tones of perfection exuded from Jessica. Josh and Phillip are real. Real towns, real high school, not perfect, but perfect for America Thus, my theory, unless Phillip has another “Time of the Season” performance, we will see another WGWG American Idol.

    • loribell says:

Sorry, this is one Joshua fan who would NEVER vote for P2. I may not be a huge Jessica fan, but at least she can sing more than 3 notes and knows what a melody is.

      • MamaLis says:

I’m a Josh fan and P2. I get that Jess has got the chops. It’s admirable. But I can’t help but think that if Simon were still around he would have used the phrase “karaoke” or “lounge singer” on more than one occasion. Granted, very EXcellent lounge singer… but the way she falls behind the beat… or, lacks her OWN emotions. There’s just something still missing. She’s still too young, I guess.

    • bj says:

JOSHUA’S VOTES WILL GO TO JESSICA !!!!!

      • Ray says:

You are wrong. I voted for Joshua to get into the finale. I have never been moved by Jessica.
I wanted a female to win, Elise or Skylar, but not Jessica. I will be voting for Phillip. Since the week that Phillip bombed so bad, even his family said so, Phillip has done better and he has
dropped his do not care attitude. In spite of what many of you believe, Phillip will sell a lot of albums and songs. He will be successful. I know it will be hard for many of you to accept, but
that is what I believe will happen.

      • 0101jyj says:

Never! have you read the HATEFUL things you guys have posted on josh’s youtube videos? i can’t imagine how he’ll feel when he reads those comments! honestly, at this point even if i don’t care if it’s a WGWG5, i’ll vote for p2 anyway!

      • chistosa says:

If I were you I would not wager much on that assertion. I voted for Joshua each week. If I vote it most likely will be for Phillip for Jessica does not connect with me. She has a beautiful voice and I think she will be great someday but right now I do not enjoy her performances.

    • Owen says:

I’m not sure why you think this. I’m guessing the people passionate about Josh were people who loved classically great singing. They might not love Jess, but if your taste runs that way, one’s preference most likely would be toward the other classically talented singer. Or you won’t vote at all. I just don’t see the Josh votes hopping to Phil (except those on these boards who will, of course, beg contrarily).

      • Marsaili says:

My Joshua votes will go to Phillip—but my votes have always been split between Phillip and Joshua.

        • tarc says:

In the absence of Colton and Elise, all my votes went to Phillip a while ago. The results seemed to mirror the People poll from earlier – Phillip on top with Jessica and Joshua neck-in-neck. Either way, it was going to be a good Top 2.

    • Miscellaneopolan says:

I’m just echoing what other people have said, but I think Joshua’s votes stand a far better chance of going to Jessica than to Phillip. Yes, Jessica isn’t a guy, but her musical style is much, much closer to Joshua’s musical style, like next door to it, than to Phillip’s musical style, which is at least three town’s over.

    • ronnel says:

whatever we are happy for phil and jess

    • Joey Martin says:

      But Joshua’s a girl, right?

    • hannah says:

If by “not perfect,” you mean “cannot sing a melody to save his life, and yes, that one time he tried, it was a gong show”… then yes! Phillip is our guy! As Steven Tyler said, it’s not about hitting the notes, even though this is a singing competition! Hooray!

    • Angela says:

I’d imagine Joshua’s fanbase would overlap more with Jessica’s. Their styles are more similar.

      • deedee says:

Not for this fan. Sometimes it’s not about genre of music, and more about the performer. Why would I bother to cast any votes for someone who bores me, once the performer who excites and inspires me is eliminated? I imagine many people feel the same.

  37. I guess all that STANDING OVATIONS finally back-fired #AI JUDGES! Look what is did to Jessica… but good thing you got to save Jessica. After that, Joshua got the “favorite” treatment, and now, finally, it has come back to haunt you! But unfortunately, there was no SAVE left for JOSHUA LEDET!

  38. Miss Otis Regrets... says:

Well Joshua was my favorite, but I’m not crying because I know he’ll be fine. And it’s just an effing contest, not worth for grown adults to be crying over.

    • Owen says:

Its a contest in getting to the Top 8. I think every single Top 8 performer with the exception of Jacob Lusk and Paul McDonald were signed by a division of 19/RCA last year…

  39. Leila says:

Sad. But not surprised, the best hasn’t won this show in years.

    • tarc says:

The ‘best’ to any one person happens occasionally – as one might expect from a contest with such widely varying styles. Regardless, my faves are all under contract and are making a living in the music industry, so I don’t really mind.

  40. My friend and I shared tissues. We feared so much it was going to be Joshua leaving but we voted so much last night…didn’t matter. The best emotional, leave it on the stage performer just was voted off Idol. Still in shock.

  41. Ana says:

I gave up when Skylar went home, so I don’t know if I should even have an opinion here. Eh, screw it, pass me the tissues. And as much mint chocolate ice cream as possible.

  42. MA says:

Uh-oh…Melinda’s not going to like this!

  43. Michael says:

Ooops, I meant not voted for Joshua to begin with but you get it.

  44. Jessica says:

I do not at all see the love for Jessica. She’s a kid! Just a little girl. I am hoping all teenage girls vote like mad for Phillip. Yes actually hoping for the teeny bopper girl vote and another WGWG winner.

  45. Michael says:

Ultimately, I am happy with tonight’s result because Jessica is in it. I wouldve wanted a Joshua/Jessica finale purely because it’s a singing competition and they are the best singers. However, I always thought that Josh was a little to screechy for me, however incredible he is. Jessica is probably the youngest, most talented singer I have ever seen on TV. Phillip is awesome, I am more inclined to buy his music purely because I like rock and his tone. But definitely on par talent wise with Jessica. Solid top 3 makes a solid top 2. Wish Joshua all the best! He will kill it out there!

    • Paramour says:

totally agree with your post. I am happy with finale. Hope Jessica wins. PP and Joshua have already won–even Holly too. She would have been awesome in Ice Age.

  46. JoshuaFan says:

I’m joining Lady Justice…going to the freezer for my bottle of gin. Sigh.

  47. tewence says:

sad day. :( come on jessica!

  48. Connie says:

I’m so glad Jessica made it but damn why couldn’t P.P. go home….but I’m not shocked he didnt. I just hope he doesn’t win the whole damn thing. Jessica FTW!!!

  49. Michael Kaye says:

PHILLIP in the Finale? No way – he dinfinitely should have gone home. A finale with Jessica and Joshua would have been awesome! But, still, the “Top 10 on Tour” will be awesome! This is the best combined talent lineup of any show this year.

  50. Ash1157 says:

    Totally bummed.
