Fall TV Preview

ABC Renews Private Practice, Body of Proof and Don't Trust the B—- in Apartment 23

ABC has ordered additional seasons of its medical dramas Private Practice and Body of Proof and the racy freshman sitcom Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23.

Private Practice, which will be entering its sixth season, is said to have netted a 13-episode — and possibly final-season — order. Body of Proof was renewed for Season 3, our sister site Deadline reports.

Other current ABC dramas set to return in the fall include Castle, Grey’s Anatomy, Once Upon a Time, Revenge and the frothy freshman Scandal. As for new dramas, ABC has thus far greenlit Nashville (fronted by Connie Britton), Zero Hour, Red Widow, the Shawn Ryan submarine thriller Last Resort and the supernatural spooker 666 Park Avenue (with Lost‘s Terry O’Quinn and Desperate Housewives‘ Vanessa Williams).

On the comedy front, in addition to Apartment 23, ABC has renewed Happy Endings, The Middle, Modern Family and Suburgatory. Last Man Standing remains on the bubble.

    • Oh yeah. The series that brought torture porn to primetime (incinerated wives, car-mangled heart-throbs, babies cut from wombs, brutal rape and assault) will be back. Woo-Hoo!

It better hope it gets the cushy spot following “Grey’s” because it could never survive in the real world.

      • It was probably renewed on its strength after Dancing. It was like night and day when compared with compared to its numbers after that wife swap show. ABC show be mindful of that or risk wasting the BoP’s licensing fee.

      • They said a possible final season for PP. They got 13 episodes, so depending on ratings, it could be extended or final. Body of Proof is a full season I believe.

  • Very good news! I was confident PP would be renewed, even if it’s for a last season. I’m kind of shocked but very, very happy that BoP was renewed. It really is a great show that kind of breaks away from the soapy formula that ABC seems to favor. It should be paired up with Castle and/or Scandal. They are the closest thing to a procedural that ABC has.
On another note, can ABC reconsider the name of 666 Park Avenue? It sounds too sinister. The name matters, they should have learned that lesson from Cougartown.

Comment by Babygate – May 11, 2012 07:41 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Um, it’s a horror show, the name SHOULD be sinister.

  • Today has been such great news for so many GREAT shows! Im happy ABC decided to do right by PP and give it another season to close out the series :)

    • Yeah, Apt 23 is amusing and Krysten Ritter is aces, but I would’ve rather seen a reprieve for GCB as well. As it stands, that and the Secret Circle getting canned has me bummed.

  • Will miss GCB but like their decisions. Now get rid of or cut back DWTS!!

  • Happy that BoP got renewed but THRILLED for Private Practice!! I was getting worried for a bit there. I officially didn’t lose a single one of my favorite shows for next year and that has never happened for me! Excited that Connie Britton will be back on my TV next year too! =D

Comment by Heather – May 11, 2012 08:21 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • I can’t believe they renew these crappie dramas and not GCB. Private Practice especially. Does anyone even watch that show anymore?

Comment by GCB FAN – May 11, 2012 10:37 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • If we see it, but had a setback in his last chapter PP has remained on the air for 5 years and has fans in Latin America and elsewhere (eg Italy) and this was his best season. We are happy to renew maybe the last.

Comment by mauib – May 12, 2012 02:50 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • BoP and PP jumped the shark.BoP needs to get back to Megan’s family time more and PP needs to send away multiple characters(including ridiculous Addison and Sam).

Comment by Shaun – May 11, 2012 11:06 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • When you name the changes these shows need to make, you’re by definition contradicting yourself. If a show has “jumped the shark,” it can’t be fixed.

  • Very happy Private Practice and Body of Proof were renewed! Feeling fortunate that I’ve only lost one of the shows I really enjoy – Harry’s Law. This is good news!

Comment by Bobbi – May 12, 2012 05:30 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • Happy and surprised about Body of Proof. I thought it was a goner for sure. Shocked about Private practice. Their last outing was only 6.1 with a 1.5 demo. How did this get renewed? Not sure about the B in apartment 23. It started out strong but I’m loosing interest quickly.

  • Looking forward on the additional seasons. Hopefully in Apartment 23, there would be some scene where the girl will look for another apartment for rent or for sale like a penthouse apartment but still she ends up bringing back to apartment 23.
