Breaking: NBC Renews Community For Season 4

Community RenewedWorshippers of the Greendale Seven can breath a huge sigh of relief: NBC has renewed Community for a 13-episode fourth season.

Still no official word on the fate of fellow Thursday night comedies The Office and Parks and Recreation, but both are considered locks to return.

Community joins the already-picked up 30 Rock, Parenthood, Law & Order: SVU, Smash and Grimm.

    • 13 episodes, but that doesn’t mean NBC doesn’t have the option to expand and pick up the back nine next fall. Yay! Community! It better not be a mid-season replacement. -.-

      • Four seasons and a direct to DVD movie. The plot can be their 25th community college reunion-slash-Pierce’s funeral.

        • Hahaha, I love that idea. I’d watch that.
So I’ll just go ahead and say “YAY!” at this news. Shame it’s only 13 episodes as of now, but hopefully it’ll do well enough to get the remaining number for a proper season. And if not, well, here’s to 13 awesome episodes, then. I’m glad to hear it’s coming back at all, at least-now I have something to look forward to next season.

  • THIRTEEN? It needs seventeen for syndication!

Comment by Patrick – May 10, 2012 05:02 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • It doesn’t NEED 17 for syndication, it’s just easier to sell multiple seasons if they are full. 100 episodes is the ideal for syndication. Community will end up in syndication regardless.

Comment by rowan77 – May 10, 2012 06:01 PM PDT  Reply To This Post

  • NBC has done back 9 pickups before when a show has been doing well, I will be holding out hope for a full 22. Even a back 6 pickup like Chuck got in season 3 would be fine. Also glad it wasn’t announced as the final season, a fifth is still on the table.

  • We’ll take what we can get, though I don’t like the idea of what Thursday night is going to look like with a shorten season of Community, 30 Rock and most likely Parks & Rec. That makes me sad, so I am just going to think about the renewal. Yay!

  • Just read an article on Vanity Fair that NBC is planning for shortened seasons of Community, 30 Rock, and Parks and Rec, and it will be announced next week that it’ll be the last season for all three. I hope it’s not true for Parks and Rec. I wish they could get rid of The Office (will anyone watch if Jim, Dwight, Andy, and Kelly really do leave?) and keep the other three. I don’t mind as much if 30 Rock gets cancelled since it’s had a pretty good run.

  • MORE EPISODES, NBC!

Comment by Alicia – May 10, 2012 09:40 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • Since the show is only getting a 13-episode order, I kind of wished they had jumped ship over to TBS like Cougar Town did. TBS would be a network that would treat them with respect. NBC likes to take dumps on their highest quality shows. If the 13-order episode happens with Parks and Rec too, then I am really perplexed with what NBC comedies are going to be on for a full season. At this point it’s just looking like The Office? A show that is losing a majority of their cast is getting a full season pickup over Community and Parks and Rec? So bizarre. Really, I can’t think what other comedies they have that could be getting a full season. Next year on NBC is going to be weird. I picture lots of time slot shuffling going on all year long.
    .
I was just looking at NBC’s homepage, and they have moved Up All Night and Whitney over from their “Current Shows” category to the “Recent Favorites” category with all the rest of their canceled shows. That seems pretty bad for Up All Night. Though I am a little confused why recently renewed Parenthood is in the Recent Favorites category and not the Current Shows category. I thought at first it was just because Parenthood is on hiatus, but if they put all their shows that were on break into the Recent Favorites category, then nothing would remain in the Current Shows category in a few weeks when summer reruns hit.

  • I’m happy about this renewal but I’m not extatic about the 13 episodes part… Let’s hope they also get a back 9 order!
