Exclusive: Cougar Town's Josh Hopkins and Others Find Work on New TBS Comedy

Josh Hopkins, as he awaits word on the fate of ABC’s Cougar Town, has lined up another gig, on the new TBS comedy Men at Work.

Appearing in the same episode as Hopkins are Christopher Masterson (Malcolm in the Middle) — aka the real-life brother of Men at Work regular Danny Masterson (The ’70s Show) — and Kevin Pollak (A Few Good Men), TVLine has learned.

Men at Work revolves around four guy pals who toil at a magazine, just as one of them (Danny Masterson’s Milo) is rebounding from a bad break-up. James Lesure (Las Vegas), Michael Cassidy (The O.C.) and Adam Busch (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) round out the core quad.

In the series’ fourth episode, Hopkins will guest-star as an attractive man who is seen getting cozy with the steady girlfriend of Busch’s character at a hotel, while Masterson will play an employee at said hotel.

Pollak, in a separate storyline, will play Pavel, the Latvian superintendent at the building where Cassidy’s character lives.

In addition to Men at Work and a recent visit to In Plain Sight, Hopkins in February booked a “second position” pilot, the NBC comedy Lady Friends, where he plays husband to Andrea Anders (Better Off Ted). NBC and ABC reveal their fall pick-ups next Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

TBS’ Men at Work premieres Thursday, May 24, at 10/9c. Previously announced guest stars include The Closer‘s J.K. Simmons (as the magazine’s publisher), My Name Is Earl‘s Ethan Suplee, Kathy Najimy and Stacy Keibler.

  • ABC should cancel Cougar Town and then relaunch it with a new title as a spin off falsely centered around one of the other characters, except that the joke would be that it’s the same exact show.

      • The problem is, they need to get enough episodes to sell Cougar Town in syndication first.

        • Not necessarily. In the past, TV shows that are related to each other have been packaged together into syndication packages. For example, The Greatest American Heroine, originally conceived as a spin off of Greatest American Hero, is part of the same syndication package as GAH. If need be, a Cougar Town spin-off could be packaged together with the original series.

  • Love Cougar Town and nice to see Josh Hopkins find work during it’s off-season, hopefully this casting is further proof of TBS picking up the way underrated and hilarious show that is Cougar Town. The show would be perfect on TBS, and would probably be treated way better, so sounds like a win-win to me. I just want to watch more, whenever and wherever that may be. Six seasons and a movie!

  • I can’t stand the Cougar Town winos, their self-centeredness and their stupid games.

  • It will be good to see James Lesure and Danny Masterson. As far as Adam Busch is concerned, in my mind, he killed Tara from Buffy. However, Willow did flay him alive so maybe I can ease up a little. HA

  • Everytime I see Adam Busch all I CAN see is him tied to that tree and Willow skinning him alive.
