Exclusive: Leverage Locks In Matthew Lillard

Leverage has nabbed Matthew Lillard for a Season 5 guest spot.

TVLine has learned exclusively that the actor — who co-starred in last year’s Oscar-winning Descendants but remains best known for his polar opposite roles in Scream and Scooby-Doo — will drop by the TNT caper drama as Gabe Erickson, a corrupt businessman who has successfully evaded jail — that is, until Nate and Co. have their way with him.

Leverage‘s fifth season launches Sunday, July 15; an air date for Lillard’s ep is TBD.

Lillard’s most recent TV credits include House and a memorable turn opposite Carol Burnett on Law & Order: SVU.

  1. DJ Doena says:

To me, he’s always going to be Cereal Killer. ;-)

  2. lorna says:

Seen a couple leverage eps, but ML is such a great actor. Can’t wait to see this ep!

  3. Justin says:

Works for me. Leverage is a great show that uses its guest stars well.

  4. No offense TVLine, but this isn’t exactly exclusive or breaking news. Matthew Lillard was tweeting photos with Christian Kane last week. That being said, I love him and can’t wait to see this episode!

  5. rachel says:

Didnt Matt play in a movie with Christian before. I think it was called Summers Catch or something. It was also with Freddie Prince too.

    • brutony says:

Good memory, Rachel-they were both ballplayers on Freddies team, in the Cape Cod League, as well as That 70’s Show Fez!

  6. Maya says:

Who? Doesn’t matter, Leverage is one of TNT’s forgettable shows with low-quality to average writing.

    • Carolyn says:

Are you sure you’re watching the same show I am because I think Leverage’s writing team is brilliant?!! Or maybe clever doesn’t sit well with you.

  7. Pidge says:

Maya, you’re a bloody fool. LEVERAGE is the best show on TNT and all-around!! Put down the pipe.

    • brutony says:

Ditto-Leverage rules! I was wondering when it would come back on-God forbid TNT do any kind of promo during the NBA playoffs-the only time people really watch this channel anymore. Besides for Leverage, of course!

    • Maya says:

Yeah, it is, if you have really low standards. Since when were fights, car chases, watching somebody climb a wall quality writing? I do think they were never nominated for an Emmy for a reason. Most of Leverage writers write low-quality action episodes, can’t write a good dialogue to save their lives. Their episodes resemble the kind of trash Steven Seagal used to make.
