Get More: Casting News, Exclusive

Disney Channel ingénue Lili Simmons (Geek Charming, Zeke and Luther) is shedding her mouse ears and tackling a racy new role in Banshee, Cinemax’s upcoming 10-episode drama series from True Blood boss Alan Ball and former House executive producer Greg Yaitanes.

The project, written by authors Jonathan Tropper and David Schickler, centers on Lucas (played by New Zealand thesp Antony Starr), an ex-convict and master thief who assumes the identity of the sheriff of Banshee, Penn, and continues to carry out his criminal activities even as shadowy gangsters hunt him.

Simmons will play the series regular role of Rebecca Bowman,  a local Amish girl in her early 20s who lives a devout life by day but is a rebellious, sexually adventurous party girl by night.

The cast also includes Ivana Milicevic (Charlie’s Angels), Rus Blackwell (Burn Notice) Ulrich Thomsen (The Thing), Matt Servitto (Harry’s Law), Trieste Dunn (Canterbury’s Law), Daniel Ross Owens (The Lying Game, Detroit 1-8-7) and Hoon Lee (Blue Bloods, White Collar).

Yaitanes, who’s directing the opener, will serve as an exec producer alongside Ball, Trooper, Schickler and Peter Macdissi.

  • Yeah, somehow I missed the paragraph on A. Starr’s character, and just read her character statement: sounded like a middle-schooler’s letter to Penthouse. Pass.

    • It’s Skinemax what do you expect?

Asides from the fact that the show will probably be well written and entertaining, the whole point is also to get the idea of how much skin is going to be shown. And when its a former Disney Channel regular, you can expect a certain amount of people curious enough to check in just for that.

  • The first three comments made me laugh. Has anyone ever considered the role descriptions of Showtime or HBO or Starz shows for young actresses? Most of the time it is all the same – “come see this previously untouched ingenu take her kit off”. Most of the critics’ favorites started out the same – Come for the boobs, stay for the story.
I will watch this. Same as I watched Magic City (for Jessica Marais) and then I’ll decide. And I am honest about it.

  • First two episodes prove this show is a winner. And Lili is pretty damn sexy as Rebecca
