Exclusive: Necessary Roughness Recruits Friday Night Lights' Gaius Charles For Major Arc

Gaius Charles Necessary RoughnessAnd now for some truly Smash-ing news: Gaius Charles is heading back to the football field!

TVLine has learned exclusively that the Friday Night Lights alum is joining USA Network’s gridiron-themed drama Necessary Roughness for a major Season 2 arc.

Charles is set to appear in at least four episodes as Damon, an extremely polished wide receiver who seeks Dr. Dani’s (Callie Thorne) help for his “imposter syndrome” — i.e., he doesn’t believe her deserves his success (a problem Smash certainly never had.)

After spending several years out of the spotlight to focus on college, Charles is enjoying a healthy career resurgence of late. Following a juicy November sweeps guest appearance on ABC’s rookie drama Pan-Am, the actor scored a plum role on NCIS that’s set to air in late April/early May. His Roughness stint, meanwhile, is slated to kick off in the third episode of Season 2, which kicks off this summer.

That saying is really starting to get annoying now. Actually, it’s been annoying for the past 6 months. We get it– FNL is a good show. However, that saying has been beaten into the ground…and then out into a meat grinder.
