Exclusive: The Big C Promotes Gabourey Sidibe to Series Regular

Well, it’s about time! The Big C is finally making Gabourey Sidibe a series regular, starting with the Showtime hit’s upcoming third season (bowing April 8).

The upgrade not only makes sense from a quality standpoint — c’mon, the erstwhile Precious is 11 kinds of awesome as smartass Andrea Jackson — but also from a plot perspective. The onetime Oscar nominee’s character and Laura Linney’s Cathy could scarcely be closer if they weren’t surrogate daughter and mother but the real deal!

The in-demand young actress, seen last on the big screen in Tower Heist, will appear opposite Colin Farrell and Woody Harrelson in Seven Psychopaths.

In the meantime, thoughts? Glad Sidibe is now an official “regular”? Or are you surprised to find out that she wasn’t already?

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

  1. Essam says:

Could somebody please tell me if her husband actually died in the season 2 finale? Oliver Platt is an awesome actor & it would suck not to have him

  2. Nate says:

Great! So did Cynthia Nixon tape any guest spots for Season 3? And is there any other news about which actors/characters are coming back?

  3. Junior G. says:

Great news! And yes, Essam, I believe that Cathy’s husband died in the season finale but as you may know, Cathy does see “ghosts” so I’m sure we won’t see the last of him on The Big C!

FINALLY ! Now give her the comedy supporting actress Emmy already !

    Awesome news!!

  6. jazzmanchgo says:

Glad to see Gabby’s in another movie. Those predictions that she’d never work again were obviously false. She’s grown as an actress, and apparently a lot of people are recognizing that. Looking forward to hearing more about “Seven Psychopaths”!

  7. James P says:

Finally, they should have made her one in season 2, despite not appearing in every episode, she definitely leaves a mark on the show
