TVLine Items: Gossip Girl Star to Blue Bloods, Private Practice Makes Bold Move and More!

Spotted: Gossip Girl‘s Margaret Colin sneaking around with Tom Selleck!

TVLine has learned exclusively that Colin, who plays mom to Leighton Meester’s Blair on the CW soap, will guest star in a March episode of Blue Bloods as a love interest for Selleck’s Frank.

Her character, Melanie, is a high profile investigative reporter for an international cable news network who has been involved with New York’s top cop in a largely long-distance and very discreet romance. The lovers’ private and professional lives collide when Melanie is targeted by a dangerous assailant and Frank is tasked with hunting the bad guy down.

Fun fact: In addition to co-starring in Three Men and a Baby together, Colin crossed paths with Selleck in an episode of Magnum P.I.

  1. IronBlossom says:

Um, isn’t that the EXACT same story as Sellek’s last love interest? With the caveat that his last one was way too young for him. But still, reporter? Check! Discreet? Check! Getting involved in his work? Check! Are his kids actually going to find out about THIS one?

How about a REAL love interest. I’m dating a widower myself right now, I know the drama and worthy stories that can result from that kind of tension!

  2. Amanda says:

More Fun Fact: Selleck and Margaret Colin played love interests in that classic, “Three Men and a Baby.”

    True story.

    • kimberly says:

I thought that was her on 3 Men and a Baby! We just watched that movie the other day. And Frank needs a girlfriend. He’s way hot.

  3. Amy says:

Frank certainly does like his reporters ;) I like Margaret Colin, a lot more than the other girl, and even better, she’s at least close to his age. Hope this one doesn’t nitpick into the cases that she knows he can’t talk about.

  4. lipsticksocialism says:

yay for ashley jones and PPP!!

  5. Diane says:

Can we talk about the inappropriate chemistry between Tom Selleck and Bridget Moynahan? :) When my husband walked by while I was watching an episode, he asked if she was “Magnum’s” girlfriend. LOL

  6. Bella says:

I love Margaret Colin. I think she would have great company with Tom Selleck. I just wish she would be a regular. She was great with Jeff Goldblum in Independence Day, too.

  7. kellie says:

Margaret Colin will be perfect for Frank. It’s about time they hooked him up with someone. He’s hot. Hope she’s with him longer than one episode though.

  8. CJ says:

After all she’s done over the years, including starring in a couple of series of her own, I still think of Margaret Colin as the best Margo on As The World Turns (with Justin Deas as Tom).

  9. jenn says:

It’s about time Frank had a girlfriend. We don’t see enough of his private life. Just the business side. They make a cute couple…always liked Margaret Colin. Hope she sticks around longer than his last girlfriend.

  10. STACY says:

Good casting for BB. I approve. Frank needs a woman.

  11. maureen says:

don’t like the character, she’s too loud and pushy. Definitely not the type the PC would go after
