Get More: News, Ratings

Fox’s new one-two punch of House and Alcatraz combined this Monday to give the network the win in both total viewers as well as in the coveted 18-to-49 demo, as CBS’ sitcom line-up idled in repeat mode.

House returned from its eight-week holiday break with a 19-percent gain, delivering an audience of 8.7 million total viewers — its best haul since the Oct. 3 season opener — and a night-leading 3.1 demo rating.

Alcatraz led out of that with just shy of 9 million viewers and a 3.0 rating, down 10 percent from its week-ago two-hour debut.

Monday’s other winter return, The CW’s Hart of Dixie, drew 1.63 million viewers and a 0.7 rating, down 10 percent from its fall finale.

Elsewhere….

* ABC’s Bachelor (8.22 mil/2.7) enjoyed a bump of 11 percent; Castle inched up 7 percent to draw its best audience (10.1 mil) since Nov. 21, yet dipping a tenth in the demo (to a 2.1).

* Gossip Girl, with 1.6 million total viewers and a 0.7 rating, was up 21 and 17 percent (though those numbers may shift due to an NBA preemption in Chicago).

* NBC’s Who’s Still Standing? (6.45 mil/1.7) enjoyed its largest audience to date, as did a two-hour Republican debate-centric installment of Rock Center (7.11 mil/1.6, up 25 percent).

  • House is filled with biting images that assault the senses, unamsking both the actors and viewers alike in a macabre dance of despair.

      • For fox are 9millions pretty good. They have merely shows anymore who come close to it, not even the comedys or Glee. These numbers are good.

This! What a shame because House had really 20 millions of viewers in the first 3 seasons. Look NCIS! they have still 20 millions after 8 years because they don’t destroy their show after 3 years like David Shore and Katie Jacobs.

    • ALL shows go up big time after Christmas hiatus and yes, House had no competition at all so those numbers are not exactly a success. Still better than the mediocre ratings it was pulling before Christmas but it will probably go down again in a few weeks.

      • If people didn`t care for show anymore they wouldn`t watch it. Look at castle, it had no compettion either and the 18-49 demo is horrible. House ratings show that it has still legs / an audience.

  • Great news for House! After a long 2 month hiatus AND a time change it’s great to see it’s numbers rise 19%! I really loved last night’s episode, and next week looks even better! Glad to see it’s pulling in good numbers… still a solid ratings performer for FOX.

  • Are Hart of Dixie’s numbers reflective of the fact not on in Chicago?

  • Alcatraz may have a good shot of getting renewed for a second season and I really don’t know if this is going to be the end for HOUSE after eight seasons or perhaps a Season Nine which could end up being its last.

  • Hart of Dixie better get renewed. I think it will gain more viewers as time goes on. And the drop wasn’t nearly as bad as the two week break they took way back in the beginning of the season, and this was a month and a half break. It’s clearly gaining more fans.

    • Greg Yaitanes may be a jerk to the fans sometimes, but he’s an amazing director. so ultimately, he’s a positive thing for the show
