TVLine Items: Jennifer Beals Cops Castle Gig, Lisa Rinna Returns to Days and More!

Jennifer Beals is Castle-bound.

The Chicago Code/L Word alumna has landed a two-episode guest spot on the ABC drama, playing Sophia, a “smart, commanding, and sexy” CIA agent helping Castle and Beckett search for a fellow operative who has gone rogue, TVGuide.com reports. Turns out, Sophia has a complicated past with the wily author, which, of course, causes tensions among the threesome. Beals’ episodes are slated to air in February.

Speaking of Castle, TV Guide Magazine has a first look here at the Jan. 9 I Dos of Kevin and Jenny, played by real-life spouses Seamus and Juliana Dever.

Ready for more of today’s TV dish? Well…

• Lisa Rinna will reprise her role as Billie Reed on Days of Our Lives beginning March 8, per The Hollywood Reporter. Details surrounding Billie’s return to Salem are being kept under wraps, but she was last seen (portrayed by Julie Pinson) in 2008 when she relocated to London.

• Hot In Cleveland is staging a Mary Tyler Moore reunion. Ed Asner will appear opposite his former co-star Betty White in an episode of the TV Land hit slated to air next summer, EW.com reports.

ABC is airing a Once Upon a Time mini-marathon on New Year’s Day. Four episodes will air consecutively beginning at 7/6c, though they are not the four most recent installments; the Jiminy Cricket-centric hour is not in the lineup.

Spy Kids star Daryl Sabara and Necessary Roughness’ Hannah Marks will tackle the roles of Hanson and Gracie, respectively, on an upcoming Hansel and Gretel-esque episode of NBC’s Grimm, per EW.com.

Jamie Gertz (Still Standing) has landed the lead in a single-camera comedy pilot for ABC, Deadline reports. The potential series centers on a family who moves to an upscale New Jersey community only to discover their neighbors are actually aliens.

Rob Huebel (Children’s Hospital) and Paul Scheer (The League) have been named hosts of the 17th annual Critics’ Choice Awards, which will air live on VH1 Thursday, Jan. 12.

Teen Wolf‘s Tyler Posey and pop star Demi Lovato will co-host MTV’s annual New Year’s Eve special.

  • Damn idiot fox execs. Should of given The Chicago Code a season 2. Instead they replace with garbage like Terra Nova. It’s really a step down for Jennifer Beals. Last spring she was the star of broadcast is only complex crime drama. Now she guest staring on a typical crime procedural.

    • I LOVE Terra Nova, and Chicago code was just a rip from Detroit 187, which sadly ended in a single half season. :)
      To each his own

    • Cool — I don’t watch Castle, but I’ll tune in to see Jennifer Beals storyline.

    • Totally – if they were going to make that numpty Chicago Code decision, they should have done it before Castle cast the new captain; Beals would’ve been superb. Guest roles for her like on ‘Lie to Me’ are such a waste of her talent but as a Castle fan, I’m thinking that if anyone can stir Beckett into action (& into Mr Castle’s arms…), it’s Ms Beals :0) x

  • I loved Chicago Code too! Such a shame that the good ones get canceled. I am afraid to start watching a new series on some networks because they get canceled so quickly.

    • I just can’t understand why none of the broadcast networks are not willing to let one complex crime drama sustain. None of the crime procedurals on broadcast are really not moving the genre forward. The only three quality, complex and smart crime dramas i can find are all on basic cable:

      1.Justified
      2.South land
      3.The Closer

    • Exactly, Sherry. This year I’m only watching Showtime (Homeland, Nurse Jackie, Weeds, Shameless, Episodes, the new one with Kristin Bell?) because I know they’ll give it time. (plus Justified on Fx)

I liked Chicago Code too — surprised it wasn’t given a chance.

  • Stana Katic AND Jennifer Beals!!!! Now that’s just too much hotness for one TV show to handle.

  • Why?!???!?!? I really liked her, but she doesn’t belong in a show like Castle! And lets be real: Jennifer Beals would never have a shot against Stana Katic!!!

  • Oh Dear – and people talk about Beckett having baggage to contend with! Get away from Rick Castle Kate, as every time you turn around there is another woman or dalliance from his past! That man is not good for you – and this storyline with Castle ex’s coming back to hurt Beckett is wearing a little – no a lot thin – no matter who is playing the ex! No disrespect to Jennifer Beals – only to womaniser Rick Castle!

  • Stanic Katic > Jennifer Beals, ask Esposito, Ryan, Josh, Demming, Sorenson Montgomery etc etc etc. Katic ROCKS!

  • Forget all this childish complaining about who has more baggage.Seeing SK’s Beckett turn green with jealousy, was hilarious
in episode 4.5. Seeing a control freak like her losing her cool over
the guy she’s staked her claim on, will be just as much fun the second time around. And this being a two parter, intensity will be the over riding sensation.

  • If there’s a person who can get between my perfect Beckett and Castle, that person is Jennifer Beals. I love her work. Plus, she’ll be gone in two mondays and we’ll be back to normal :)

  • Beckett green with envy in ep 4/5 – somebody must be watching a different version of Castle eh? I thought Beckett gave Castle permission to do what the hell he wanted with Serena or anybody else! Anyways the main point here Jennifer Beals mini role – I only know Jennifer from flash dance – so can’t really comment on her acting skills – from what people are saying on here though she is fine actress – so bring it on.

    • So that C/B argument outside the interrogation had nothing to do with KB being jealous? I guess I am watching a different episode.
