Ratings: Castle, Five-0 and Hart of Dixie Post Gains, Two and a Half Men Dips Again

Get More: News, Ratings

ABC’s Castle this Monday copped its biggest audience since its season opener, delivering 11.5 million total viewers (up 24 percent from last week’s football-impaired low) while scoring a 2.6 demo rating (up 12 percent).

Likewise in the 10 o’clock hour, CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 (10.9 mil/3.1) saw gains, of 8 and 15 percent, besting Castle in the demo.

Earlier in the evening, Hart of Dixie‘s shhhhteamy hour warmed up its numbers some. The CW’s freshman drama drew 1.75 million viewers and a 0.7 rating, gaining 11 and 17 percent week-to-week.

Two and a Half Men, meanwhile, dropped another 10 percent in the demo, scoring a 5.3 rating while amassing 14.85 million total viewers. After a fourth straight week of declines, the rejiggered sitcom is now approaching about half of its season opener’s record tallies.

Going hour-by-hour….

8 pm | Dancing With the Stars averaged 17.5 million viewers and a 3.2 demo rating across its two-hour run, up 4 and 8 percent week-to-week. CBS’ sitcombo of How I Met Your Mother (9.8 mil/4.1) and 2 Broke Girls (11.3 mil/4.3) drew some extra eyeballs while holding steady in the demo. Terra Nova (8 mil/2.7) was up from last week’s baseball-delayed outing, but down 13 percent in the demo from its regularly scheduled Oct. 4 episode. The Sing-Off (4.3 mil/1.5) and Gossip Girl (1.3 mil/0.6) were flat.

9 pm | Though Two and a Half Men slipped some, lead-out Mike & Molly held steady at 11.6 million total viewers and a 3.9 demo rating. Like Terra Nova, House (8.4 mil/3.1) was up versus last week’s time-delayed outing but down 15 and 20 percent from Oct. 4.

10 pm | Placing far, far, far behind Castle and Five-0, NBC’s Prime Suspect repeat mustered 2.74 million viewers and a 0.8 rating (compared to Playboy Club‘s last delivery of 3.39 mil and a 1.2).

  • I’m so glad Castle is doing so good, it is one of the best shows on Monday nights. Beckett’s jealousy on last nights episode was so good, I loved it, I just wished she could have admitted to her therapist that Castle loves her and that she loves him. I’m glad Castle didn’t continue to pursue with the insurance agent otherwise it would have killed it.

    • couldn’t agree more with your post!! great episode and finally getting to see Beckett open up to the therapist gives us a view into what she’s thinking. can’t wait for next week!

      • ITA, but Castle is starting to reach the proportions of a linebacker. If this keeps up he will be the olive to Beckett’s toothpick.

    • I love this show and Beckett’s jealousy really was doing her in. Glad that she and Castle ended up going for a burger at the end… Also hope that Kristin Lehman was a one time guest. She was not as good a guest star as they had been trying to convince us she would be!

Does the new chief bug anyone else? She just strikes me as Sherry Palmer all over again, though it cracks me up when Beckett calls her “sir”…

      • I absolutely hated Kristin Lehman’s character. The press said she will be back for a story arc but I hope not. I cannot stand that character and I wanted to slap her every time she’s on the screen.

        • I heard that “Serena Returns” rumor was born through a tabloid site. It is absolutely not true. It would defeat the purpose for her to tell Castle she doesn’t steal what belongs to someone else (aka stealing castle from Beckett) and then return in another episode. It’s not happening. Don’t worry :)

    • Couple of things; last night’s ep was alright but the whole plot was practically lifted from “The Thomas Crown Affair” (1999 remake). Except, in this incarnation the insurance agent was a mix of both the art thief and detective roles, not to mention, the lady even looked like Rene Russo! Albeit with blonde and not red hair, though her whole demeanor was very similar actually (which is probably why they cast her). And don’t even get me started on the whole hiding a piece of art within another “twist.”
I like Castle but last night was such a rip-off; jeez writers, try to write your own scripts…
      -
Second, does NCIS no longer air on Mondays in Canada? Was online last night looking for a link and it never came!

      Third, lmao off at House.

  • Two and A Half Men is a joke that is not funny anymore. I couldn’t even sit through the whole episode. All the have done is made Ashton’s character from that 70′s show older and rich. That hash brownie episode wasn’t nearly as funny as the one on that 70′s show! Charlie’s body was not at the funeral. Let’s say he faked his death to get away from Rose and bring him back!

    • I never watched it before (I have never liked Charlie Sheen), and I have to say I am enjoying the show. The “give a hoot, don’t pollute” line made me laugh out loud, something that I seldom do while watching any sitcom.

    • I totally agree, Two and A Half Men is awful. CBS, you lost out. Bring Charlie back or take the show off the air.

      • Didn’t Sheen get a nice settlement from CBS? Why would he WANT to return to work with Lorre? It would be a step down for him.

    • Actually , Ashton is growing on me and Two and Half Men , is not bad , even with the current ratings it is doing great.

My concern goes out to TerraNova , I sort of like the show but if they really want to kill the series then all they need to do is drag out the story line. There is little reason why the audience can not know early on more about why the 6′s are attacking the colony. It would work a lot better if the issue was out there and the balance of the season was about the struggles.

  • No surprise 2.5 men keeps falling, it’s just not as good anymore, gossip girl keeps falling but I still like it, guessing this will be it’s last season

Comment by Martina – October 18, 2011 10:06 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • 2½ Men has fallen from its artificially inflated (the Rubbernecker Effect, if you will), but it’s still doing better than it did last season, when it was considered an unqualified success (ratings-wise, at least). Add to that the continued success of CBS’s other shows, especially 2 Broke Girls, with particular success in the 18-49s, and I suspect you’ll see CBS is quite happy with Monday Night.

  • Charlie Sheen had one more year on his contract with Two and a Half Men and that apparently wasn’t enough for him.

Now the show’s going down the toilet and he’s getting even more money then before. What a loser!!

  • It’s pretty sad when the funniest part of 2 & 1/2 men was Courtney Thorne-Smith’s response to being in a softcore porn was her agent saying it would get her a part on Melrose Place.

Comment by David – October 18, 2011 10:21 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • A lot of what they’ve been doing on 2½ Men so far this season is still dealing with the fallout over Charlie Sheen’s departure. This episode with Lindsay was a way to get the revelation of a lot of what Alan did wrong last season (which would definitely sabotage any realistic relationship) out of the way. If he goes on with Lindsay, it will be with a relatively clean slate.

  • I was watching The Lying Game and football! Men’s problems are stemming from women who watched the show until Ashton became another celeb cheating on his wife…we don’t want to watch those men – i.e. Brad Pitt included!!! If you cheat on your wife, other women across the country (world) are not going to watch your shows or movies – we stick together!!!

Comment by Annabelle – October 18, 2011 10:42 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • I do boycott Brad Pitt and Angelia Jolie movies and wish more ppl would too. As for AK I think the decline in ratings is more based on the show not being funny than his marriage problems. When DB cheated on his wife I was tempted to boycott Bones but as a fan of the show as long as his character didn’t ever cheat I was ok. Not to say I support cheating but at some point I feel like you have to draw a line when it comes to the actors personal lives.

  • Problem is that they havent really given kutcher’s character anything to do. I loved That70s show and while I’ve never really liked Kutcher much I figured he’d at least be ‘ok’ on 2-1/2 men. But the problem isn’t him (yet),the problemis the writing. Boring, boring, boring. a few laugh-out-lous momnents here and there, a few cringe-worthy moments here and there, but no reason to keep coming back week after week. With’Charlie’ you kept coming back because even though it was the same repeat story it was amuzing and Sheen is a decent actor.

      • Yeah, some friends were watching the show last night and there’s just so much recycling and uninspired dialogue, Foreman is better as a team member than a boss and Cuddy being gone makes a big difference, it throws off the balance and one of the most interesting dynamics left in the show is gone without her-House/Cuddy/Wilson. One 13 is gone too. It’s sad but painfully obvious that the network kept the show on to make money and with the budget cuts lowered the quality of the show considerably in many areas. The show is gasping it’s last breaths. The network should’ve taken a bit less of a cut and I think it would’ve saved the integrity of the show and saved them more viewers in the end and therefore more money than they’ll make from it now. I could go on with the big issues I see but what’s this point? The show shouldn’t be in this position but is b/c of bad choices.

Comment by T.J. – October 18, 2011 11:54 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
        • Excuse typos. I should proofread. The point is trying to make the same amount they made before by forcing them to make these cuts that are all painfully obvious in the final product ended up costing them more in the end. They should make it right like CBS did with “Criminal Minds” at the end of last season. But I have a feeling they won’t. Such a shame because it hurts the fans of the show and syndication and DVD sales in the end when they lessen the quality this badly-again costing them more money. I know myself and many others passed on buying last season of “House” because of the way last season went, especially the finale. And going by this season’s offerings so far, the chances are vastly more remote that I’m going to buy this new season. Actually, after an episode or two more if things don’t get better, and I doubt they will, I’m probably giving up on the show as well.

Soon it will be lower than in the times Sheen was in , taking down the fat show and Hawaii five 0 with it.Of course Hawaii will go down anyway the moment TerryO’Quinn leaves the show and the plot is back to the boring four.
