Raising Hope Exclusive: Meet the 1970s TV Icons Who Raised Burt

If bionic man Steve Austin and Mrs. Partridge had a baby, he’d apparently look an awful lot like Burt Chance.

TVLine has learned exclusively that 1970s TV icons Lee Majors (The Six Million Dollar Man) and Shirley Jones (The Partridge Family) will appear this fall on Fox’s Raising Hope, playing Burt’s parents. So come on, get happy!

TV’s MacGyver to Guest on Raising Hope

Majors, who is also well-known as TV’s Fall Guy and from The Big Valley, last hit the smaller screen with a guest spot on $#*! My Dad Says. Jones as of late has been working the TV-movie circuit, plus she guested on A&E’s The Cleaner and her son Patrick Cassidy’s short-lived ABC Family comedy, Ruby & the Rockits series. (Her film credits of course include Oklahoma! and Elmer Gantry, for which she won an Oscar).

Yea!! We need to see WAY, WAY more of Shirley Jones on TV and in the movies. She’s a freakin’ Oscar-winner, for pete’s sake, and she brings so much to every appearance. Audiences love her. Does the nickname “America’s Sweetheart” ring a bell with casting directors? It should!

That is the most perfect casting. I can’t wait for the 2nd season to start already!

  3. Cy says:

Well, Burt looks like Patrick Cassidy, so great casting!

Love Burt, and can’t wait to see this.

    Matt:
Has anyone done an interview with Garrett Dillahunt about how he ended up going from all of the psycho heavy roles he was doing to Burt? I realize are the majority of guest spots are for things like that, but it was such a switch up to see the guy who played Francis Wolcott and Roman Nevikov in the role of Burt. Great acting chops for sure.

Total agreement – and he just played some psycho on Alphas, too, so it’s not like it was a complete turnaround. Someone talk to this gifted, gifted man!

I think his tragicomic turn as the guy who killed Wild Bill Hickock in Deadwood may have shown he has strong comedic timing and can play dumb convincingly.

Love this casting. And I love this show sfm. It joined Parks & Rec & Community as shows that never fail to make me happy even when I’m in the worst mood! :)
