Exclusive: JoAnna Garcia Scrubs In As Mysterious Royal Pains Doc

JoAnna Garcia will presumably get pulses racing as a doctor on Royal Pains, TVLine has learned exclusively — thus providing her with a convenient East Coast gig while slugger hubby Nick Swisher’s New York Yankees cruise into the post-season.

USA Network Schedules November Runs for Burn Notice and Covert Affairs

In multiple episodes of USA Network’s medical dramedy, Garcia will play Dr. Nina Greene, a smart and compassionate nephrologist who may or may not be a former child star. The doc’s possibly famous-ish background comes to the fore when she is pressed on the issue by patient Jack O’Malley, aka the golf pro played by Ed‘s Tom Cavanagh.

USA Network’s Suits Gets FItted for a Second Season

Though perhaps best known for her run on Reba, Garcia’s TV credits also include, most recently, ABC’s Better With You, plus Gossip Girl, Privileged, and the TV-movie The Initiation of Sarah.

Royal Pains aired its summer finale on Aug. 31. Season 3 will resume sometime in early 2012.

  • Wasn’t she also in one of the “American Pie” movies? I remember a gross scene with her.

    • Yeah, that scene was disgusting. She was also in Not Another Teen Movie and Freaks and Geeks. Even though she’ll always been Cheyenne to me, I adored her on Privileged and really miss that show.

  • They need to focus less on guest stars, and more on the main cast.

    • This is one of those shows that uses guest stars wisely, so they really don’t need to put more focus on the main stars.

  • Maybe she’s going to be the expansion of HankMed that Evan was looking for. I love her. As long as she plays someone who is nice and decent and not horrible like that awful Dr. Emily Peck.

    • Agreed. That was a horrible character.

  • I hope she sticks around for the whole season, just so I can have her on my t.v. screen every week. I’ve watched all of her shows, still sad about Better with You being canceled.

  • I liked JoAnna Garcia way way back when she was on Nickelodeon’s “Are You Afraid Of The Dark”.

Never thought I’d miss “The Midnight Society” as much as I do.

  • Sheesh! Focus people! The big news is that Ed Cavanaugh’s Jack O’Malley is coming back!

Also, it’s been years since Garcia did American Pie. Let it go…

  • I thought that she was going by JoAnna Garcia Swisher now?

Comment by Doris – September 16, 2011 07:04 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • When it’s convenient, Doris, when it’s convenient. Google her over the past two years and find an article where her hookup with Swisher isn’t mentioned. Yes, she’s cute, but she’s a one-note actress and if Swisher leaves the Yankees … well, he’ll have made a good first husband and she’ll get a nice alimony check.
