NCIS Exclusive: Scott Wolf G-Mans Up! Plus Scoop on the Season Premiere's Big 'Bang'

Veteran (yet seemingly ageless) TV actor Scott Wolf has been enlisted for the Season 9 premiere of CBS’ NCIS, TVLine has learned exclusively — and in a role that promises some “surprises.”

NCIS Scoop: Lily Tomlin Reveals that McGee’s Grandmother Is a [Spoiler]!

As the potentially recurring character of FBI Agent Casey Stratton, Wolf “will play an important role in this year’s season opener,” executive producer Gary Glasberg tells us. “Who he is and how he influences the NCIS team will come in due time, but I can promise you some unexpected surprises.”

NCIS Season 9 Premiere Scoop: ‘Tony Goes Through the Mill’

When last we tuned into TV’s most watched scripted series, in the wake of the Port-to-Port Killer’s deadly spree the newly appointed SecNav had assigned Tony DiNozzo (played by Michael Weatherly) to reel in a fellow NCIS agent who was selling secrets. The new season — premiering Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 8/7c — will pick up four months later, then flash back to events that transpired since the finale.

“We’re going to start the show in real time, in September, look back all the way to May, and then jump through the mission Tony was on,” Glasberg reveals.

And from the sound of it, the season opener’s first moments set in September may be explosive ones to remember. “I highly, highly recommend you not miss the first five minutes of the show,” Glasberg teases fans, “because it is going to start with a bang.”

CBS Fall Premiere Dates, Including NCIS, Criminal Minds and an Extra-Big Bang

In addition to of course Party of Five and, most recently, V, Wolf’s TV credits include Everwood, The Nine and Spin City. “We are thrilled to have Scott joining us,” says Glasberg. “He is fantastic.”

  1. Tiva4Life says:

    He is handsome.

  2. Kiki says:

Good news – I always liked Scott.

  3. Xtina says:

For some reason (like the whole Mark Paul G. and James Van Der Beek working on the same show) I’ve always pictured Chris O’Donnell and Scott Wolf very similarly and think he should be guest starring on NCIS LA not regular NCIS.

  4. Mel says:

Although I am very excited about the premiere, and love the idea of it being done in a non-linear narrative, like Truth or Consequences, the S7 premiere, I’m kind of tired of all these guest stars. Last season we had EJ and Ray taking up space, now Scott Wolf. I just think fans of NCIS love this show because of the regular cast, and the great team of characters they play, and guest stars take time away from them. And frankly I want to see DiNozzo and team Gibbs solve this op, not an outsider. That said, I’m still psyched for a Tony-centric ep, and can’t wait to see the whole team again. Thanks for the NCIS scoopage !

    • Linda says:

Nothing against Mr. Wolf personally. He is quite handsome and I am sure a very good actor. But I agree with you. I am tired of all these guest stars/recurring characters too. Its like we rarely get to see the regular cast working together any more, because these new characters are taking up so much time. I am not even buying the DVD’s from last season. Hope this season we will at least get a few episodes with the main team back in action.

    • Alicia says:

Just what I was thinking. I wish NCIS would stop cluttering up the show with new characters when they have plenty of unexplored territory between the cast. The P2P killer arc and finale were all over the place and I can’t help thinking the storyline(s) would be more cohesive if they quit trying to jam-pack every episode with a bunch of new faces.

      • Marie Smith says:

I agree 100%. I watch the show for the interaction between the cast regulars. Just adding random faces clutters up the storylines and interferes with the chemistry. Get back to basics and let the regular cast (that we know and love) do what they do best – crank out great episodes.

    • AngelMoonGirl says:

I agree! I’m tired of all the guest stars. Once in a while for a special arc is okay but last season especially, I felt like we had hardly any time to enjoy the main cast. And really, their relationships are what keep the show going, not all these famous actors being hauled in and out.
I really want some Tony/Ziva scoop!

  5. Jaclyn says:

I am delighted to see Scott Wolf on NCIS – he was awesome in V, a show sadly cancelled without ever having an end – which I find really annoying!
Sounds like it will be a blockbuster for season 9

  6. Mandy says:

Scott will give DiNozzi a run for his pretty-boy money. I really like him in everything he does, so I am looking forward to his addition to the show.

  7. Bella says:

I expect DiNozzo is going to get shot as a result of his investigation into the traitor and Scott Wolf comes in to replace him while he’s recuperating.

    • Henny says:

I wouldn’t mind less DiNozzo this season. Last season was Tony overkill and not it seems like the season opener will be about him too.

How about some emphasis on McGee? Or Abby? Or even Ducky?

  8. Judy says:

I don’t mind that they bring these people in for recurring characters. It adds to the drama of the series and the team. I thought last season was great and I really enjoyed both E.J. and Ray. I would love if they bring in Fornell more often. If they always kept just the regular team, then things would get boring and people would complain about that. I like Scott Wolf and I hope he enjoys his time in NCIS.

    • Jesse says:

I want also like to see more of Fornell! I love the Fornell-Gibbs scences…it’s about time they bring him back….

  9. CBS-Fan says:

I don’t mind guest stars and excited to see Lily Tomlin. The only thing I do mind is every red head that comes on the show recurring women trying to get Gibbs in the sack. They start off as business but end up with doing nothing but trying to get Gibbs attention. So not needed in NCIS. It makes women look weak, especially Lt. Mann and the lawyer who I just hate their characters. They are awful because it’s like they take over and including going overboard in bossing around his crew. It makes professional women look like all they think about is using their power and all the think about is the bedroom with Gibbs instead of trying to solve a case. I don’t know why they the writers interested in making Gibbs out to be James Bond. Let him be the leader of investigation. He’s great and awesome just the way he is without all the horny females they bring to him. He’s been married 4 times for petes sake. It’s obvious love isn’t first thing in his life. I don’t see this done on Criminal Minds.

I do want to get into the background history of McGee and Abby. We have seem to cover everyone’s background but those two. All of them have some sort of skeletons that are hid. Gibbs especially killing someone for personal reasons. So I don’t buy people hating Vance because he has a secret. Ziva, Gibbs,Director Jenny, Ducky, Tony all have all broken the code and rules for personal reasons.

Anyhow love this show and love the chemistry with the cast. Just let this season be good instead of all the distractions trying hard to make Gibbs a Ladie’s man. It takes from his character. I do however love the communication with his father.

    • Gretchen says:

I don’t see this done on Criminal Minds.
They did try this with Morgan a couple times and with Reid, but it went exactly nowhere. Which is how it should be as they are mine, all mine :p

I’d love to see more of McGee and Abby’s pasts as they are my two favorites. I also wish there would be some sort of shared case with the LA cast again, would love to see Callan and Hanna with DiNozzo and Kensi being chased by DiNozzo.

  10. NCISGal says:

Here we go again. More guest stars.

(I’ll be okay as long as he doesn’t get with Ziva – annoyed with guest stars hooking up with Tony/Ziva!)

  11. E Fish says:

I’m with the people who are tired of the guest stars. As a fan of Tim McGee, I’ll be happy to see his grandmother, but don’t we really have enough regular characters who don’t get much airtime as it is? Ducky, Tim, even Abby (although the episodes focusing on her have either contributed to my lessening interest in her character or else have been wildly OUT of character). There is more to this show than Gibbs, Tony and Ziva. The writers don’t need to keep bringing in new recurring characters. There are unplumbed depths with the regulars. …without giving them all daddy issues.

I’d actually almost prefer a return to finding dead petty officers in Rock Creek Park.

    • channeld says:

I agree with EFish. While the guest stars can be fun, they’re not the reason why fans return, week after week. We want to see the regular cast (and we would like Brian Dietzen (Jimmy Palmer) made part of the regular cast!)!
The show has sculpted a rich set of characters, but they still have many more stories to tell.

  12. Shar says:

I’ve been a fan from day 1 of NCIS and it is time to refocus on what makes it great. Last season’s stories were disjointed and didn’t follow previous years standards. While I like Scott as an actor the focus has shifted to adding new personalities. The team should return to solving crimes with the core group (Gibbs, Ducky, Abby, Ziva, Tony and Magee). It’s time to get rid of Vance!! He doesn’t fit – never has, never will!

    • 1st sgt s.j. marsico says:

i am a a member of ..lets just says a government agency and i do like what they are doing with the cast of NCIS but with dir. vance he does have something to hide if you remember back to when jenny passed what was the paperwork he shreded out of that file and what is he hiding it for gibbs he is the lead investigator of the team he should be let alone to do the job the way he knows how to with all these other people coming into the cast it makes it worse for the cast to figure out why this person is there and what are they up too?

  13. Elin says:

ow I’m super excited for the new season, every thing I’ve heard so far sounds like fun :)

  14. Palsy says:

I love Director Vance personality. This was the best decision to make him Director NCIS has had.

He acts more like a real Director than Director Jenny. Vance is perfect for this role. He’s not suppose to be chummy and bringing balloons. There has to be a guy that can stand up and with Gibbs. Director Vance has been the only character that fits to Gibbs level and remind Gibbs what his job is. They all have secrets that. Vance is not suppose to smile, but he is always suppose to second guess everyone. Rocky Carroll is an amazing actor and came from the Broadway stage. His acting is very professional and he fits the role perfectly of a hard nose no nonsense Director.

  15. Sara says:

I like Ray. Enrique Murciano is an amazing actor.

  16. curtis campbll says:

I can hardly wait for September. I’m so ready for season 9. Keep up the great work.

  17. Moviefan2 says:

I agree with what most are saying. Enough with all the Guest Stars! It is expected during the sweeps but come on, enough. LOVED Bob Newhart and am looking forward to Lily Tomlin. But with such a great cast they don’t need to keep bringing in people. Please tell me EJ is finally gone.

  18. murphs_mom says:

I’m with everyone who wants the show to return to the main characters. Love the USA reruns for that reason! I like Leon too, but really wish he’d return to the Vance of seasons 5-7. In season 8 I thought he became too confrontational and intentionally working against his team. In earlier seasons, he questioned, but you always knew (save for the first 3-4 episodes of S6) he was on the team’s side.

  19. Hallie says:

Love this show. Thanks for the news, Matt. Hope to see some great stuff with Tony, Ziva and Tiva this year. The premiere sounds intriguing. :)

  20. sophie says:

For the first time in 8 years, I actually skipped several episodes last seaaon. I really missed the TIVA moments and was bored & uninterested without them. Season 8 will be the only season I will not own. I love Tony, but will skip the premiere – have a STRONG dislike for EJ & have no desire to see her again. Hope this arc is over early. Please, please let season 9 be better & dont have Tony sulking over this crap all season. Bring the ‘T or C’ Tony back & keep him (funny AND competent). As far as guest stars go, I don’t mind as long as they are used sparingly. It sometimes feels as if they take up the whole screen. If I wanted to see a bunch of strangers I would rent a movie. I prefer our regular crew.

  21. Georgetta Richardson says:

I don’t care for Abby. And when I say I don’t I mean I don’t. She is driven for any kind of attention and then you have to listen to her mouth. She’s a Lab Rat stay there. She also along with Gibbs make women look bad in the work place. How many of you women would let your boss hug and kiss on you? Gibbs is a flirt. You can see it every time a woman walks by. He is either looking at there butts or looking down there blouse or dress. Mark Harmon isn’t all that he is cracked up to be. You could see it when he kissed Col Mann. She couldn’t breath. It wasn’t a put on. I like the show. But sometimes I just get iritated but some of the characters.

  22. Lynn says:

I like Scott Wolf but NCIS does not need another white guy. There are women and people of color in the FBI. Besides NCIS already has FBI Agent Tobais Fornell.

  23. Henny says:

I agree about not needing yet another white guy. They already have five white guys in the main cast plus Fornell recurring. And only tow female characters. If they have to bring in a new character, why not a woman?

  24. KingBee120 says:

I’m so glad “most” everyone saw EJ remove the microchip from her fallen colleague. If you weren’t really watching that pricise moment you missed it and there was never a mention among anyone else. I agree with others, I don’t like her. Get her out of there. She takes away from Gibbs & regular cast. IDK who Tony is after, but sure feels like they’re cutting him loose???????

  25. momof4 says:

I’m just hoping this secret mission isn’t NCIS “jumping the shark”. The plots are increasingly moving away from crime into soap operas….
