Fall TV Preview

Blue Bloods Scoop: Carrie Underwood and Tony Bennett Just Duet

Country superstar Carrie Underwood has booked a plum gig — on the CBS drama Blue Bloods.

On the Season 2 premiere of multi-generational family/cop drama, the übersuccessful American Idol and fellow multiple Grammy winner Tony Bennett will appear as themselves to perform a duet of “It Had To Be You” at a fundraiser that Frank Reagan (played by Tom Selleck) and daughter Erin (Bridget Moynahan) are attending for the newly appointed mayor (Dexter alum David Ramsey).

Blood Bloods Casting Scoop: Broadway Vet is Erin’s BFF

“Having musical legend Tony Bennett and the hugely talented country music star Carrie Underwood perform on our show is a true gift,” Blue Bloods executive producer Leonard Goldberg says in a statement. “We’re looking forward to an exciting second season premiere with a story that is certain to provoke debate, and are thrilled that [they] can be a part of it.”

Bennett and Underwood first collaborated on “It Had To Be You” for Bennett’s new album, Duets II, due out Sept. 20. Bennett of course recently dueted with Idol champ finalist Haley Reinhart, on “Steppin Out With My Baby,” during the Season 10 finale.

  • To bad it could not have been Haley with Tony but Carrie is already a major star, so we will have to wait a bit until Haley becomes one too.

  • Yes, I’d rather see Tony duet with Haley Reinhart who has a jazz background, unlike Carrie who probably has never sung jazz in her life.

  • Carrie can sing anything. You obviously missed her on Oprah when she sang with Tony, Josh Groban and Michael Buble. She more than held her own with those guys. She’s amazing.
