Exclusive: James Tupper Is Ripe for Revenge - As Emily Van Camp's Father

ABC favorite James Tupper (Grey’s Anatomy, Men in Trees) has been tapped to play papa to Emily Van Camp on the new fall series Revenge, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Set to air Wednesdays at 10/9c, starting Sept. 21, Revenge stars Brothers & Sisters alum Van Camp as Emily Thorne, a rather gorgeous young woman who makes camp in the tony Hamptons with but one thing on her mind — [see series title]!

Fall TV: ABC Sets Premiere Dates, Including Supersized Grey’s and Modern Family

Specifically, Ms. Thorne is out to get back at those who years ago wrongfully wronged her father, who in the original pilot was played in flashbacks by Marc Blucas. With the Buffyverse alum now committed to USA Network newbie Necessary Roughness, Tupper is stepping into the recurring guest star role, since the flashback element will continue on through the series.

(For those keeping score at Seattle Grace, this means that Grey’s doc Teddy Altman has ostensibly lost both of her beaus, seeing as Scott Foley aka Henry has been snatched up by True Blood. Watch your man, Cristina!)

In addition to his Grey’s and Trees roles, Tupper’s TV resume includes NBC’s Mercy and ABC’s Samantha Who. On the big screen, he right now can be seen wooing Carla Gugino (nice!) in Mr. Popper’s Penguins.

Congrats to James Tupper, but Marc Blucas playing a dad? To a twenty-something? I feel old.

    • Meg says:

Ha. I initially thought that too . . . but upon reading again, it said we would be seeing the father in flashbacks, not present day. Hence, casting a younger guy makes sense.

  2. Roger says:

An all canadian family… Love that !

  3. carine says:

Don’t see how Foley being in S5 of true blood would/could jeopardize his guesting on Grey’s since True blood films aroung March onward. Considering S5 won’t start until next year that leaves like 8/9 months of filming on Grey’s Anatomy.

    • Danielle H. says:

TB films from December/January through June/July. They are currently still working on the end of S4.

      • Marie says:

Grey’s won’t start filming until the end of July/beginning of August, so it shouldn’t be an issue. Plus Scott can be written out of Grey’s for a bit if needed. It’ll be interesting to see how they handle that.

  4. Kiki says:

Hold your tongue, Matt! If Teddy revisits her “crush” on Owen, I’m gonna have to find a good book to read.

  5. Linderella says:

I thought it was this website that reported Scott Foley would stay with Grey’s even while working on True Blood. One can only hope.

  6. Lauren says:

Yeah I actually think that Scott Foley was the best thing about Grey’s this season. I may be a bit biased because I love him though. Very excited to see him on True Blood, but I hope he can do both.
