Glee, Katie Couric Hit Sour Note With Lindsay Lohan's Mother

Dina Lohan is calling a flag on the play after Glee‘s Super Bowl episode took a dig at her (and her imaginary dog “Sparky”).

At the close of the special Glee outing (which was watched by some 26 million viewers), guest-starring newswoman Katie Couric informed Cheerios coach Sue Sylvester that she had been named “Loser of The Year,” beating out the likes of Mel Gibson, Tiger Woods and LiLo’s famous-ish mom.

Watch the scene here (at the 45:00 mark), then read on for Lohan’s reaction:

The Lohan family matriarch took issue with the mention, griping to E! Online that the Fox series “has targeted everyone, from gays to lesbians, Asians, [and the] disabled.” Though if one actually stops to review that list, Glee has actually done right by most of the groups.

Nonetheless, DiLo — who vented earlier this season when Glee teach Holly Holiday (played by Gwyneth Paltrow) made light of LiLo’s rehab stints — goes on to say that such snark is “a shame…. [T]he writers need to be nice and more creative, as opposed to being hurtful. They are sending the wrong message to the youth that are watching.”

Lohan even pulled Couric herself into the nontroversy, noting, “She has a short memory [since] the tabloids were trashing her a few years ago — and she’s a mom!”

Whose side are you on in this building “rivalry” – Team Glee, or Team Lohan?

Team. . ..TEAM ARE YOU KIDDING ME! I don’t care either way but don’t pull the mom card when your daughter is a rehabbing whore who can’t stay out of jail or rehab. Just insanity. Realize you are going to be the butt of a joke because you, your daughter, and your family (ex-hubby included) are jokes!

    • Sir Genius says:

I actually hope terrible things happen to you. You obviously don’t have any idea what you are writing and should be dealing with personal terrors and calamity rather than posting online.

  2. Christopher Majewski says:

I knew the moment it was mentioned that she would make a stink about it. It’s sad that this woman cannot see how ridiculous she and her whole family comes off…with Lindsay in and out of jail and rehab, the crap reality show they have, and her ex-husbands stints in jail and just all around stupidity. COME ON! Own up to the trailer trash family you are!!

  3. Megan says:

Neither, I hate them both. And Dina Lohan loves the attention.

  4. Athena says:

Shouldn’t she be more focused on her daughter’s health and legal issues than getting her name in a headline? “Loser of the Year” indeed.

  5. Rachel says:

She does realize that by constantly fighting this she’s just giving them more ammunition and making herself a bigger target, right? Just saying…she protested the rehab jokes and look where that got her…I personally think it’s hilarious and nothing they’ve said hasn’t been true…

  6. Lisa says:

Please, Dina. Being named with the likes of Mel Gibson and Tiger Woods, I say you’re doing just fine. You have what you want: you are famous!! But when you’re famous, expect people to make fun of you. I don’t see Mel or Tiger saying anything. They don’t care because they know that it’s JUST A TV SHOW and yes, their actions may have contributed to the spirted ribbing that comes with the territory.

    • logician says:

i think you’ve confused “famous” with “infamous”

yes, one is the root word of the other, but they carry very different meanings.

  7. David says:

No, Dina is clearly not the best Mom but I do think it’s a little harsh to include her in a group with an abusive antisemitic and a man who cheated multiple times on his wife while maintaining he was a scandal free guy. It’s kind of like they’re just mentioning the Lohan’s now to get a week’s worth of headlines.

  8. anothercrazycanuck says:

When Dina had her own reality show, she knew exactly what she was getting into so I don’t feel sorry for her one bit. Dina gives “Stage Moms” a bad name by how she pushed her daughters from a young.

Although addictions is a mental illness and I thought the comments about Lindsay were over the line.

  9. Danielle says:

Once she went on the Today show & her reality show, she opened herself up to ridicule.

  10. Michael Sacal says:

  11. cobby says:

“THEY ARE SENDING THE WRONG MESSAGE TO THE YOUTH THAT ARE WATCHING”!!! Dina has a lot of nerve saying that….HER DAUGHTER is sending the wrong message to the youth. I saw this woman interviewed on The Today Show months back…..TALK ABOUT DELUSIONAL!!

  12. CMJ says:

Dina Lohan needs to realize that when her daughter became a celebrity, she also becomes the subject for public ridicule. Dina, darling, when your daughter conducts herself the way your does, she becomes a big, fat target. You can have privacy, or you can have fame. When your daughter entered the realm of the latter, she loses a lot of the former. Something tells me Dina would rather have fame than privacy.

I say bring on more Linsey Lohan barbs!

    • logician says:

“Dina Lohan needs to realize that when her daughter became a celebrity, she also becomes the subject for public ridicule.”

that’s horribly mean spirited. instead of “ridicule,” maybe you actually meant “discussion” or “judgment”?

it’s not just about becoming a celebrity. it’s about abusing their celebrity status; they’re always being twits while in the public eye. why should any form of media have to be positive about her or her daughter when their own actions have done far more damage to their own image? she seriously needs to see a doctor about her irony deficiency.

  13. Camille says:

Personally, I’m amazed Dina Lohan even watches Glee. Of corse, it’s hillarious she believes “they are sending the wrong message to the youth”, because the drama that surronds her and her family isn’t exactly PBS programming. I pity her and her inability to hold onto any shred of dignity she might have left. However, when she lashes out at a comedy show that incorrperates her infamous, high-profile image she’s spent the better part of a decade building, she needs to learn to take it lightly or (heaven forbid) try to work her way out of the infanite hole she’s dug herself into.

    • Nat says:

I think it’s safe to say she doesn’t watch it if she thinks it “targets” gay people, Asians and the disabled. What an idiot.

  14. stephanie says:

Give me a break! This woman is way too into herself and is so spotlight craved it’s ridiculous. If it wasn’t for Glee dissing her no one would talk about her so of course she makes a fuss. The truth is this show treats people who have been notoriously discriminated against with respect and dignity unilke other shows that shove them to the background and use them to advance “regular” characters and storylines. As far a Glee poking fun and the Lohan’s they’re not the only ones doing it and they joke around about most of the goings on in pop culture. People who put themselves and their families in the spotlight should expect to get some backlash and deal with it in a gracious way. I’m not saying anyone deserves to be made fun of but sometimes you just have to rise above it and not become a media whore and whine to E! everytime it happens.

  15. Grace says:

Okay, I’m definitely NOT about to start crusading on behalf of Team Lohan, but I did think that dig was kind of a d*uchey move on Glee’s part. The first dig on Lindsay didn’t seem to me to be personal – she’s kind of an easy target these days and she has proven to have some sense of humor – but this was a clear and spiteful jab at DiLo for retaliating against the first joke. I didn’t expect an apology from them for hurting LiLo’s feelings, but the classy thing would have been to just leave it be.

  16. dee123 says:

Isn’t she the one who signed her daughter up to Ford modeling at 3? all that is happening now is on her.

  17. kristine says:

Lindsay’s being charged with felony grand theft today. Good to see Dina Lohan is focusing on the bad message Glee sends.

I hate Glee, but hello creative freedom. It looks STUPID when public figures pick fights with TV. Sarah Palin and David Letterman/Katie Couric/the mainstream media. Dina Lohan and Glee.

And Dina Lohan has been a terrible mother. If she’d been a better one – as in actually being a mother instead of trying to be her daughter’s BFF – maybe Lindsay would have turned out more like Natalie Portman and less like a train wreck.

  18. Charlotte says:

I think Dina Lohan needs to accept that her daughter has lost the right to be respected in Hollywood. She’s essentially just a joke now.

  19. Samantha says:

Stop being a whackjob and then maybe people will be nice to you and your family. If she watched Glee, she would know they’re not bashing anyone who doesn’t deserve it.

  20. FamilyMan says:

Dina Lohan and Sarah Palin…the two worst moms in history.

  21. jen says:

Come on – do you guys really need to “report” this non-news? you seriously posted that the mother of someone famous complained to some other site on the internet about SATIRE. seriously?

You know, it only becomes a “thing” because you post about it. No one would pay attention to her and people like her if you (the pop culture media gossip machine) all stopped. I like your site, but if the posts continue to feature this kind of crap, i’m unsuscribing it from my reader.

  22. Louise says:

Maybe Dina should be focusing on the wellbeing of Lindsay instead of focusing on the media.
