Who Will Play Pam and Bobby's Son On TNT's Dallas? The Search Is Down To Two Actors

Get More: Casting News, News, Pilots

Desperate Housewives alum Jesse Metcalfe and up-and-comer Alex Russell are the finalists to play the role of Bobby and Pam Ewing’s adopted son, Christopher, in TNT’s Dallas reboot.

The updated Dallas, from Cane creator Cynthia Cidre and Warner Horizon, centers on the offspring of bitter rivals and brothers J.R. and Bobby Ewing — J.R.’s son, John Ross (Josh Henderson) and  his cousin Christopher — who clash over the future of the Ewing dynasty while the fate of Southfork itself weighs in the balance.

Also tapped for the pilot are original Dallas stars Larry Hagman as J.R., Patrick Duffy as Bobby, and Linda Gray as Sue Ellen, as well as Jordana Brewster as Elena, who is locked into a love triangle with Christopher and John.

Metcalfe currently is co-starring on NBC’s freshman drama Chase, which has been pulled off the schedule and is not expected to return next season.

  • God, NOT Jesse Metcalfe. Please. I was fine with all this casting news until now.

  • Why aren’t they getting the actors that played the characters the first time?

  • Alex Russell, no idea who he is, he must be better than Jesse Metcalfe.

  • Definitely go with Alex Russell out of those two. Jesse just doesn’t jive with me for whatever reason. He’s Gabby’s lawn boy. LOL.

I have heard that they were down to four finalists, but hopefully we’ll know the full cast soon.

  • If they cast Jessie “i cant act my way out of a paperbag” Metcalfe the show will be doomed…I was just starting to get excited about the show

  • Not Jesse Metcalfe. Most overrated actor EVER.

  • Alex Russell would be a better choice between the two. Jesse Metcalfe doesn’t look the part at all to play Bobby and Pam’s son.

  • I think they should have cast the original actors from the TV show.. Omri Katz and Joshua Harris.. Katz also played the part of John Ross in the reunion film from 96 while Chris Demetral played Christopher in that one.

    • I’m a huge Dallas purist, but you can’t reasonably expect that they would ever in a million years have offered the roles of John Ross and Christopher to Omri Katz and Joshua Harris. Joshua Harris’ acting career never took off and Omri Katz was not a strong enough actor to lead a TV series.

For this series to work, it has to appeal both to new viewers who have never watched the original series and to fans of the original. They can’t fill all the roles with the original actors and rely on just former Dallas viewers to boost the ratings enough to keep the show going.

      • “Omri Katz was not a strong enough actor to lead a TV series”

        Ever hear of “Eerie, Indiana”?

“new viewers who have never watched the original series”

In the last four-five years here in Mexico Dallas has rerun on two different channels, TMC Latin America and American Network, a syndication-like channel.

I’m sure people born after Dallas ended have seen the show.

        • “Eerie, Indiana” ran for one season. Omri hasn’t been in much of anything since then, aside from a random guest spot. His acting in “J.R. Returns” was wooden and I just can’t see him carrying this show.

Comment by Justin – February 8, 2011 08:39 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
          • Eerie’s failure is not necessarily due to the lead actor’s skills, though. The point here is that he carried his own show.

Wasn’t he in JR Returns like for five minutes, maybe less? It’s been years since I saw it.

  • Well money talks & hopefully they will hire the talented nobody.
    (anyone is better than Metcalfe)

  • Why not pull someone in like Glory Daze’s Drew Seeley? He has great looks and has enough of a unknown feel while still carrying credits. Also, seriously, what are the odds of Glory Daze’s renewal?

  • I still say Matt Long should play Christopher.

  • Please don’t go with Jesse Metcalfe anyone but him.

  • Jesse Metcalfe for sure. It would be interesting since Jesse and Josh Henderson both appeared in Desperate Housewives.

  • Agree. NOT Jesse, he’s such a douche and cannot act. Go with Alex Russell and anyone else. Can’t believe Jesse in any role.
