Jared Padalecki just can’t quit The CW. The recently announced reboot of Walker, Texas Ranger, which will star the Supernatural actor, has landed at The CW for development, per Deadline.
The project, which is reportedly titled Walker, will be a reimagining of the 1990s action-crime series starring Chuck Norris. Padalecki will fill the role of Cordell Walker, “a man finding his way back to his family while investigating crime in the state’s most elite unit. [The] broken widower and father of two returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years for a high profile case — only to discover that there’s even more work to be done at home.” In this new take on the series, Padalecki’s character will be paired with a female partner.
Anna Fricke (Valor, Being Human) will write the pilot and executive-produce with Padalecki and Dan Lin (Lethal Weapon). [pmc_inline_gallery]
Walker will mark Padalecki’s third consecutive project at The CW, following Gilmore Girls (which moved to The CW after airing on the WB) and Supernatural, which just kicked off its 15th and final season. The CW was considered an early contender for Walker‘s home when the project was initially announced in September.

No surprise really. Lol. I’ll be watching.
Too bad it couldn’t find a bigger network.
Hopefully it will be good.
Not necessarily bad for it to be on the CW. They are extremely forgiving of low ratings and it certainly provided a home for Supernatural for many years. That said, it isn’t really like the other shows on the network.
Would love for Chuck Norris to be involved
Was thinking the same!
Yasssss!!! I’ll definitely be watching this! Thank you, CW!
Doesn’t seem like a usual CW show but I think it’d less inclined to watch it on CBS. I’ll probably check it out! Excited about a female partner. I wonder if they’ll film in Austin.
Chuck Norris should play Walker’s dad. Will be watching.
Love Jared. I hope Walker does very well
Awe, I liked Walker and now that Padalecki’s going to be in it I will watch it, it won’t be like Supernatural but I bet it will be still a good Season, he is a good Actor.
There goes the 40+ crowd.
I hope they make the partner a compelling lesbian so we finally have a show that avoids the will they trope!
He’s 37. I’m not sure he’ll bring in teenagers anymore. In fact, he’s fanbase is 15 years-older if they love him Supernatural and 19 years-older, if they know him from Gilmore Girls.
He probably can make the transition to more mature lead, much like Milo Ventimiglia did.
I’m 57 and love Supernatural and lots of other shows on the CW. You can’t judge people’s tv viewing by their biological age, no matter what the ad agencies and Nielsen ratings say. I’m looking forward to seeing Jared some more! Hoping Jensen and Misha land some great roles also. I’m thinking they will film in Austin, since that;s where Jared and family live.
I’m 67 and I’ve watched Supernatural from the beginning. I, also, watched Gilmore Girls. I love dark dramas, too. Age is just a number
I’ve been watching him since he was on Gilmore Girls and watched Supernatural since the pilot. I watched WB and UPN shows before they merged into the CW. I’ll be 40 in a few months and fully intend on checking it out. I watch shows on other networks, but I’ve been watching a lot of CW shows since the network started. I like fantasy and sci-fi, so CW is one of my favorite networks. I’ll watch Walker strictly because he’s in it. I’ll at least give it a good chance. It’s not my normal genre, but I’ll still give it a try because he’s in it. You can’t necessarily judge what people watch by their ages. My 60+ year old mother watches a lot of shows on The CW, including Supernatural and she also watched shows like The Vampire Diaries. Heck, she even got my dad to watch The Vampire Diaries when she was rewatching it on Netflix. You can’t tell what people will like just because of their ages.
I agree with everyone below you about the age thing, but I agree with you about his partner being a lesbian. That would be fantastic.
My mom is 73 and watches more CW shows than I do! I’ll be 41 when the show airs and plan on watching.
Love Supernatural. Watched all Episodes going on this 15th season with my daughter. We’re going to need a lot of tissue for this final season. Good luck in your new endeavours boys.
It would fit better on CBS. I can’t imagine what will CW do with it, but I still give it a chance. For Jared if nothing else.
If it’s anything like what they did to Nancy Drew, it will be a sexy show. Little to no ass-kicking, and if they go the Riverdale road, Walker will be a whiner.
Yeah, that’s what I’m worried about. I loved original Walker and that was so far from CW style. But at least they cast mature actor like Jared and no some 20 something boy which would fit to CW style
IDK, I think they did an amazing job with the Roswell reboot (at least the first season). I just hope they bring Jensen on it at some point. Those two are amazing together.
JMO, but I doubt they’d bring on Jensen. It would be too “Supernatural.2” if they did. Jared and Jensen have been “Sam and Dean” for a lot of years. They need to establish their own identities in the acting world again. It would be good for them to act apart from one another for the next few projects before doing something together again.
Wish it would have gone to FX or one of the more adult oriented channels. Outside of Supernatural, the CW is tailored more towards teenagers and 20 somethings and their story lines usually push whatever the current “Hollywood social cause” is. Supernatural is about the only show on the CW that doesn’t push a social agenda and once it’s gone, I think any new show will have a network check-list they have to adhere to. FX is one of the few channels left that entertainment is priority one. Politics have ruined a lot of potentially good shows and movies in the last few years, no one wants to be preached to. Entertainment is suppose to be an escape, not more of the same.
I will watch.
Anyone wanna place bets on how many pointless sexual partners he’ll have? Disappointed to see this land at the CW. After what they just did to Nancy Drew, my hopes for enjoying this just went down the toilet. :(
Agree. Nancy Drew was awful. I tuned out after the quicken with the mechanic such a waste.
Cannot wait for the reboot of Walker, and love who they picked to be the star. Can’t wait till it airs on the CW, look forward to it.
I LOVED the Walker TV series starring Chuck Norris. I am looking forward to this new series.
i saw walker, now it’s coming back, love it I am 67. i like shows like NCIS. FBI.
YES!!!!
Surprised by all the positive responses, because (to me) this sounds like one of the worst ideas I’ve ever heard. Clearly my finger is not on the pulse…. enjoy, I guess.
You’re just in the wrong room. This is a site that frequently exalts Bachelor episodes and never calls any show bad, so it doesn’t attract an intelligent crowd.
just watch it once a find out if you like,it or not don’t bitch untill you see it. ok
I think this is a good move for everyone involved. JP and the CW execs already have an established relationship. JP also already has a die hard fanbase developed at the CW who would likely follow him anywhere. Plus at the CW the ratings expectations won’t be as high as say CBS. I think the ideal scenario would be giving it Supernatural’s time slot next fall. They can start now developing an action/drama to pair with it.
I’m still confused why he is jumping into another show when the reason they said they were ending Supernatural (and the reason last season had less episodes) was because the actors wanted to not work as much and be at home with their families.
I was wondering if they were maybe not going to try and pass the Pacific Northwest of Canada off as Texas and film on-site in the state instead. Since he lives there maybe the draw is to be able to go home and the end of the day and not live away for a good chunk of the year?
I think it was Clif the so-called-bodyguard to the J2 says that Walker will be filmed in Texas. Then I could have sworn I read elsewhere in legit media that it will be filmed in Austin. I hope I not going crazy.
The guys have been off the open job market for a long time. That means they’ve been off the grid to casting agents, and starring on such a small network doesn’t draw a lot of attention in the vast expanse of Hollywood. I’m not surprised Jared took something so quickly (something he’s co-producing). Even if Walker fails, it gets his name out there again. I’d be surprised if Jensen doesn’t get signed on to a role in fairly quick time as well.
If they actually shoot the show in Austin (where his family actually lives), he will get to spend way more time at home with his family. I would imagine the flying back and forth from Vancouver every week is just as tiring as the long work hours and that being away from your wife and kids most of the week has to suck.
Its filming in Austin, where Jared lives. It was an opportunity to continue working, but be near his family.
Will the new series feature martial arts style kick fighting?
I’ll be very happy to see Jared in this role. I’m positive he will do a fantastic job as Walker, just like he does every other character he plays. I can’t wait. Although I’m watching Supernatural now, Walker will be on the back burner. Jared will, I’m sure, be thinking of cool stuff to get into when Walker starts up. He’s such a wonderful actor, there’s nothing he can’t do. I’m very excited for him and I wish him the very best of luck in his endeavor.
Not a new take since Walker had a female partner in later seasons.
I won’t be surprised if this show will be filmed in (ugh) Canada. Double Ugh.🙄
This would never work on the CW. The network is not known for police procedurals.
Remaking Walker Texas Ranger LOL Hollyweird has truly run out of ideas!! Pathetic, honestly.
