Another HBO limited series may be taking a page from Big Little Lies‘ playbook.
Ahead of The White Lotus‘ finale on Aug. 15, series creator Mike White tells TVLine that he has had preliminary conversations with HBO about a possible second season. [pmc_inline_gallery]
“We have had discussions, but it remains unresolved,” White tells TVLine, adding that he “would like” for there to be a Season 2, albeit with some cast changes. “It would have to be a different hotel, like, say, The White Lotus: San Tropez or something.”
The anthology-esque approach would allow White to introduce a new crop of guests and hotel staff while also potentially bringing back a few Season 1 favorites.
“I don’t think you can credibly have [all the Season 1 guests] on the same vacation again,” he says. “But maybe it could be a Marvel universe type thing, where some of them would come back.
“We only made one-year deals with the actors,” White adds, “so we’d have to find out who is even available.”
White teased the possibility of a second season in a recent New Yorker profile. “I think there’s another season in me that kind of has a different way into this that I think would be cool,” he said.
An HBO rep declined to comment on the possibility of more White Lotus.
The premium cabler is also exploring the possibility of moving forward with another season of recent hit Mare of Easttown, which was similarly conceived as a limited series. “If we can crack a story that is as great [as Season 1] and that would do justice to the characters and carry on the story in a way that was organic and yet surprising, I would love to do it,” series creator Brad Ingelsby told TVLine back in June. “I just don’t know what the story is. That’s the issue right now.”
Why? Why do we need to see more TV about entitled white people? I love Connie Britton but this show made my teeth hurt.
Yes, but the entitled white people are all going to get their comeuppance so what’s wrong with that as long as it’s entertaining? I’m loving White Lotus, even though most of the characters are despicable (I’m especially looking at you, Shane!). If you don’t like it, don’t watch.
Have you watched the show, Ruth? Most of the “entitled white people” on the program are nuts.
I watched the first 3 episodes and gave up. BORING.
Didn’t take long to take down the white folk again.
How about Season 2 we call it the Black Lotus and have all black actors. Will that make you happy?
Lol! I am soooo dead!!! Love this comment. Best ever!!
If they have them all be terrible people like the white people are on white lotus, it’d be called racist. You can’t win with some people.
I watch anything that comes out of talented MIKE WHITE!
I get that this show is not for everyone but I like it a lot and would love a second season.
If they go the anthology route than I’m for it. I’m really liking the show, but a 6 episode limited series feels good for this type of particular story. If they continued on I don’t see it going well. But if they do a new story with new characters than I think that has potential.
I absolutely love this show. Yes, the characters are totally entitled and dysfunctional. That makes it fun to watch! Not sure why it would need to be in a different hotel, but different guests does make sense.
Hope it continues!
yes…..please season 2
hotel staff must stay the same !!
makes the show
eposide 4 was the best !!
please season 2
I would be on board for s2 with new hotel guests!
Most anthologies tend to not live up to the original season. IDK…. TWL is the best show of 2021 for me. So well done. I don’t think they need to forcefully create new situations at a new hotel because TWL had such a rich setting in Hawaii and that was one of its strength. Location played a big part in this. Props for them to show eating ass on tv. Hats off to our two actors.
Ugh. I’d rather HBO direct their resources toward a second series of Mare instead of this pretentious trash.
I agree that “Mare of Easttown” was superior but it was a serious drama, and “The White Lotus” is actually a comedy! There is room for both genres on HBO.
I’m not sure I like it enough to be concerned about another season.
Remember when we all loved Big Little Lies and then season 2 was an unnecessary meh? I love this show but why can’t limited series just stay limited series?
ohmygawd!! I forgot all about season 2 BLL, I guess it wasn’t very good. I don’t remember Mark Walberg movies either. White Lotus 2nd season couldn’t be that bad, could it? I do think it would be better than another season of MARE which could turn into another run of the mill ” jigsaw puzzle” murder mystery in an ugly Pa. town
It is essential we get a 5 season commitment from HBO (how tf is this “unresolved”!) Not to mention HBO still owes us for what they did to Enlightened.
I do agree. I Love all Mike White creations! So great.
Rainbow Lotus. All tossed salad.
Wonderful programme with insight into class struggles in our society. It’s sometimes uncomfortable to watch, and often high-larious.
