The Blacklist is officially getting a summer sendoff.
NBC announced Thursday that the crime drama will wrap up with a two-hour series finale, airing Thursday, July 13 at 8/7c.
As you’ve likely already noted, the James Spader-led series currently airs on Sundays (at 10 pm), but the show will indeed move to Thursdays as of June 1. Back-to-back episodes will air that night, at 8 pm and 9 pm, while subsequent episodes will air only at 8 pm.
The June 1 double header kicks off with “The Hat Trick,” in which Red provides the Task Force with three criminal cases that are deeper than they appear, while Ressler helps a friend make amends. Then, in “Blair Foster,” Red helps the team investigate when a corrupt lawyer is linked to a string of corporate cover-ups, and Cooper and Sen. Panabaker await a judge’s decision on the fate of the Task Force.
NBC first confirmed in February that The Blacklist would conclude with its current 10th season. “It isn’t often that a series resonates so deeply with an audience that it airs for 10 seasons, but The Blacklist proved to be a perfect combination of highly talented producers, stellar writing, a cast that never failed to deliver and a crew that always rose to the occasion,” NBCUniversal exec Lisa Katz said at the time. “A huge thank you to our partners at Sony, everyone from the past decade who made this show an integral part of NBC’s storied history and, of course, a special nod to James Spader, whose performance remains nothing short of spectacular.”
Looking forward to The Blacklist‘s final episodes? Tell us below.
WARNING WILL ROBINSON…anal retentive moderator!
Will never forget the first episode when Red walked into the police headquarters, dropped to his knees, and put his hands behind his head. Been a fan ever sense.
Unfortunately that scene made no sense – why do that in a public lobby if you want to make a secret deal with the FBI?
Because he wanted their attention.
I love the Blacklist. I always looked forward to watching the show. All the amazing people who star in it, are phenomenal.
I am so very disappointed to see the show end.
Would love to hear of a spin-off to this brilliant show.
Also looking forward to seeing what James Spader will do next.
James was brilliant in Boston Legal.. Hilarious in the office and once again brilliant in Blacklist… I am so excited to see what he does next
Any word on whether the central mysteries of the show involving Red’s background, exact relationship to Liz, RickKatarina, etc. will be addressed in the finale? It seems they’ve pretty much pulled back from that this year.
The show made it clear that Red is Katarina. That’s why the show has not brought up his real identity anymore since it’s been resolved.
Red is Katarina. Remember, Red went through a ton of surgery to look like the real Reddington. That surgery was done to transform Katarina into Red.
“But the real Katarina knew that Sam wouldn’t be able to protect Liz forever on his own, so she “created” and “constructed” a new Raymond Reddington, because the U.S. government — and the rest of the world — never found out he had died, and this version of Red was one Katarina could control would be able to watch over Liz.
“What does that mean, constructed?” Liz asks the storyteller version of her mother, who says, “It meant a complete transformation,” as a scene of a surgery is shown, while James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s World” plays.
Then this new version of Red is seen picking up 13 packets of classified KGB intelligence from Ivan Stepanov, part of the plan that would allow him to pose as the real Raymond Reddington, a man who was known for having extensive secret intelligence, and expand his intelligence network — a.k.a. the Blacklist — as a way to secure Liz’s safety.”
“An emotional montage closes out the finale, with highlights from Liz’s life and relationships replaying on screen. Particularly notable are the tender moments from Liz’s early life with her mother, which get cut together with scenes of Liz and Red from the last eight seasons.”
That’s hilarious ! Nope !
So every episode from now until July 13th will continue to be filler. Got it!!
If you mean by filler that every episode will essentially be a self-contained, relatively independent story, the way television shows used to be instead of the prime time soap operas they have become then probably yes.
The Blacklist is the rare show that I watch very intently…and never even think about my phone. I wouldn’t dare miss a minute of Spader!❤️🖤
I so much agree with you.
Well to me it’s been very boring. I have jo interest in Siya at all and a lot of episodes have been about her. I did enjoy the Dembe episode.
Yes and no. The show is a blend of episodic and serial TV. Episodes have a contained story embedded into a continuing story that requires viewers to watch most episodes sequentially.
I am devastated that The Blacklist is ending. This series could continue in so many directions for these characters. I will miss the cast and will, unfortunately, be watching re-runs instead of the real thing.
Good run indeed, there are many more seasons awaiting!
I didn’t realize that more episodes were coming. I thought maybe there would be thirteen. I will say that ever since Megan Boone left the show, it has not been the same. I was hoping she would end up with Ressler.
I’ve said the same thing since she left but I still watch because James Spader is awesome! I just watched Preston Pink the other day and it’s so crazy to see him that young! He was so beautiful back then! Not handsome, beautiful with that hair 🩷
Pretty in pink I meant, damn spellcheck lol
😂 I was just going to say don’t you hate autocorrect!
He’s adorable in Stargate too.
I hated Pretty in Pink. The horrible Asian stereotype and the gross misogyny.
I don’t miss John Hughes’ films. Yuck!
I had thought that there would be a story development that Resseler would be proven to not only be Liz’s brother or cousin but Red’s son or nephew. Based on the time Red saved his life by giving him his blood and mentioning they had the same rare blood.
I figured Red was his Father, Mother, or Aunt / Uncle.
If Red was their Mother it would explain why he didn’t match as a father.
The DNA testing was faked because Red’s DNA would have shown that he is genetically female–possessing two X chromosomes. Even disregarding sex, DNA paternity testing would have shown that Liz shared half of her DNA with Red.
I agree. The show started with so many possibilities for a Ressler/Red familial connection, but, they dropped the ball and underused Ressler. I lost interest about a year before Megan Boone tanked the show. I’ll tape the rest of it and catch up if I feel like it. I doubt they’ll resolve much of anything with Ressler.
I will be sad. I think Red is the most fascinating character ever on TV. This is the best show ever !!
The end of one of the Greatest series on TV. It will be missed!!!
I always thought Red is either Katarina’s secret twin brother or Katarina’s clone.
i’ve been rewatching Blacklist season 4 Alexander Kirk, on that scene that Kirk is interrogating Red about him being Liz’s father Red says no, after Kirk asks Red if Liz is his daughter Red says yes, so i’m pretty certain Red is Katerina, he isn’t Liz’s father but her mother and also when Kirk is about the kill him he whispered something that made Kirk spare his life so yes i’m pretty sure/convinced.just hope we get a definitive answer about Red’s identity or it’ll so unsatisfying, love the show will miss it for sure💔
I’ve rewatched that scene on many occasions, and that leads me to believe that Reddington is Katerina.
Which episode in what season are you referring to? I’ve watched them all but don’t remember this?
Thanks
I never believed that. I still do not.
The blacklist is by far the best thriller in years.i will be sad to see it end. Every actor on that show has been incredible to watch and James spader gives 100% in any thing the man does.james has a presence about him that draws you in and that is so rare these days.
Best show ever. I just hope we get the answers we have been waiting for. James Spader is the best and will miss him and the character Red very much. I believe if the writing was there – the show could continue. Can’t wait to see where the rest of this Season goes.
I’m not looking flare o the final episode! I don’t want the series to end! This household loves loves loves James Spader! I sure hope you have another long standing series coming for James Spader! Boston Legal and Blacklist, 2 of the best shows eve made
James Spader never fails to deliver on a performance. He was spectacular at playing Alan Shore on Boston Legal. His role as Red Reddington has been a complete joy to watch. I’m going to miss Red and Dembe’s friendship. Much as his character’s relationship with Denny Crane (William Shatner) on Boston Legal. I’m holding out hope that James already has another series in the works. It would be such a waste of talent if he doesn’t.
Missed Liz so much when she left, then when Dembe left Raymond’s side that really was an upset. Dembe should have never left. Now the most who done and how will be leaving for good is really hard to take. Kudos to Mr Reddington for 10 get seasons!!
Once they’ve finished The Blacklist, then The Cleaning Lady will the best show on broadcast television
This great show needs to continue – maybe with a spin-off? C’mon #nbc @nbc – do the right thing!
best scripted show for the past 10 years
will miss Spaders’ great performances
I think this year is the best Blacklist season, great turns, twists and plots more exciting and if it would stay like this I would not want it to end. This year it has been better writing, I really liked the run away Bridegrooms..what a way to end the season!
With me wanting more!!You woke me up!
10 years of The Blacklist isn’t enough. Also, I’m still waiting for Mr. Kaplan to reappear.
