CBS on Wednesday revealed its midseason schedule, and it pits Sophia Bush against her former Chicago P.D. fam, moves S.W.A.T. to Sundays, starts a new Amazing Race and throws a whole lotta Celebrity Big Brother against the potentially snow-challenged Winter Olympics on NBC.
In Good Sam, Bush stars as Dr. Sam Griffith, a gifted heart surgeon who excels in her new role as chief of surgery after her renowned boss (played by Awake‘s Jason Isaacs) falls into a coma. But when said boss wakes up months later and demands to resume his duties, Sam is tasked with supervising this egotistical surgeon… who happens to be her father. (With the sitcom Smallwood still awaiting a premiere date, Good Sam marks the only new scripted fare on CBS’ sked.)
Back in May, S.W.A.T. was announced as being Sunday-bound (to fill the void left by SEAL Team‘s move to Paramount+), though its solid performance in the Friday leadoff spot led some to suspect it might stay put. CBS, though, has a new cycle of Undercover Boss to circulate, plus the Sunday closer spot is a safer, less-volatile haven once the NFL season is over.
And with the Winter Olympics hitting NBC starting Feb. 4, CBS will sprinkle across its schedule 19 total hours of Celebrity Big Brother Season 3, thus saving fresh episodes of NCIS, The Equalizer and others from potentially formidable competition.
Other than the above, CBS’ schedule is hugely BAU, with any current fare returning from the holiday break in the first week of January. Then, as a little bonus, you already have the next cycle of Survivor to look forward to, arriving March 9.

Still no Blood & Treasure on the schedule? Did I miss something? I thought the second season had finished filming a while back?
I asked (as always!), nothing to report yet.
Thanks Matt!
I was thinking the same thing last night – there are too many reality shows. We need a good adventure!
At this point they should put it on Paramount Plus so someone can see it. I always thought it was going to quietly end up there anyway.
Looking at this schedule, I’m thinking, they had plenty of room for All Rise, MacGyver, and keeping Seal Team on CBS. I like Swat on Friday nights, who wants to watch so many episodes of Celebrity Big Brother? Good grief.
Reality shows are always much cheaper than scripted shows.
Why waste more expensive shows to flounder during the Olympics. Summer proved BB to be good counter programming
+100 TVLine Power User points (no cash value)
I mean the Olympics would kill all shows mentioned, cbb. Is cheap at least and will get ok ratings, if it doesn’t no biggie as it was special programing
I guess they were able to finish the amazing race? I didn’t know they ever went back into production. Any details how that went with Covid?
I didn’t realize they had either, but they apparently restarted in September.
It looks like they used a chartered aircraft to travel instead of flying commercially as well.
I’ve been wondering about Amazing Race! Good news that they went back into production and the show will be back much sooner than I expected.
Great, so SWAT and The Rookie on at the same time?
SO excited about The Amazing Race on January 5!
Not happy at all that they are moving SWAT. I don’t like NCIS Hawaii at all so they could have moved that one to Wed. night opposite of all the Chicago shows, which I dearly love. It is getting so I dislike anything at all on TV!
I agree with you on all. I want her the 1st Hawaii show and that was enough. Wednesday night is Chicago night.
I do not watch undercover boss so my Friday got shorter…I could care less about Seal Team…Celebrity Big Brother I never watch…between moving shows around and medicare ads TV is losing my interest….
You could “care less”? Think about what you’re LITERALLY saying. Actually, you could NOT care less!
Thank you. That drives me crazy too.
We all understood her and this problem isn’t going away. Save your bellyaching for monsters who apostrophe the pronoun its.
And your for you are.
How about pre as in preheat your oven?
Aren’t you just heating your oven?
Same with pre boarding a plane.
YES the Amazing Race is back
Please someone tell me why the soundtrack behind shows has got so loud you can’t understand half the actors voices. Seems I remember this happened a few years back and they passed a law to lower the volume on music background. Have they slipped this in again. I want to know how many people have noticed this and can something be done about it again
It got so bad we bought a bose sound bar that emphasizes the dialogue. It really helps.
Good grief! Do people seriously care about Big Brother anymore, especially Celebrity BB? (I know, I know, apparently so, because they keep airing it!) I wd rather watch repeats of almost anything (well, other than Season 6,422 of Survivor! 😉) than any BB episode! What are they trying to do? Cram an entire season of it down our throats in just a few days? I am also not a fan of NCIS Hawaii, mostly because I dislike Vanessa Lachey and not a big fan of what seems to be the required gay relationship on every single show. Some shows can pull that off (FBI Most Wanted, for one), because they don’t force it on you. NCIS Hawaii cannot pull it off. They, in my opinion, are grossly overplaying it. I’d prefer to see more about the local guy and Inoke (the dog). This is all just my personal opinion. JMHO
The Celeb Big Brother strategy is pretty much explained abovewards…?
CBB last about a month because Celebs don’t want to stay in a house for 3 months like summer. It’s a counter programing strategy for a short period of time. If you don’t want to watch it find something else. They networks don’t care about your opinion unless your a neilson family.
Agree, seems as if every show must have a few gay couples. CW is the worst.
When did they have time to finish another Amazing Race season? I thought it was halted cause of covid and they werent able to go back and finish cause of all the airline restrictions overseas?
They resumed filming in September finishing in early October. Travel was conducted via a chartered plane just for the racers/crew unlike the regular commercial airlines they historically have used. Location wise was also drastically reduced from a normal season focusing on the UK and Schengen area countries in Europe presumably due to travel restrictions.
Good heavens 😁
Why is Sunday considered a better timeslot? It seems to be where they stick every show that is about to go off the air. SWAT was doing just fine on Fridays and now they stick Undercover Boss (a show that should have stopped surprising people after like the first few seasons) in there. Also, they must really want to kill off Good Sam by sticking it against NBC’s One Chicago with such weak lead-ins.
I personally have given up in trying to watch any shows on CBS that’s on Sundays. They absolutely never come on at their scheduled times, and even when I set to DVR them giving extra time, it’s a waste because everything is so backed up. It’s a good thing my sister has Paramount plus, because now I watch The Equalizer, NCIS LA and my favorite from last season, Evil, and recently started watching my FBI shows there, too. Now I guess I’ll also have to add SWAT to that list. Good grief, I wonder if that is CBS plan anyway? To so disgust their viewers that they drive them to their streamer.
“… the Sunday closer spot is a safer, less-volatile haven once the NFL season is over.”
I’m not sure how it is doing on Wednesday nights, but I have loved seeing CSI back and especially with William Peterson back as Grissom. I wonder if there is any chance the show will be picked up for another run. If it is only 10 or 12 episodes each season, it is still better than no CSI at all.
It’s bombing, but nothing does good and international sales makes it free/cheap I would guess it gets a yr 2, Dynasty situation
We don’t know if it’s bombing because broadcast network viewership represents just a portion of the total audience. While we know the Live, Live+Same Day, Live+3, and Live+7 audience, we don’t know the cumulative streaming and on demand viewership–CBS.com, CBS on Demand, Paramount+, and whatever other streamers may have paid to carry it. Combined with international sales, the show may be doing fine.
Too bad for SWAT.
I do not know why the stations are always moving shows around. It gets us so upset.
Good news
I like swat being on Friday don’t move it to sunday
I am sick & tired of CBS scheduling Big Brother for 2 hours and prempting regular programs. Big Brother isn’t all that great . Frankly I wish CBS would think things out rather than what they always do-mess up the schedule and annoy TV viewers
Keep SWAT on Friday ugh it was perfect and I’m not looking forward to NBC coverage of Olympics again Summer Games coverage was horrible I wish FOX would take over
Any news about Clarice? I still think it’s not canceled yet
Not officially. But it was produced by Warner Bros and the discussions with ViacomCBS to move it to Paramount + broke down it does not seem likely to have a future. In the meantime, cast and crew have to make a living finding employment elsewhere.
Well with all these changes, I will be down to one CBS show, Blue Bloods!! As for Sunday night, which LAPD show is better, SWAT on CBS or The Rookie on ABC. Looks like The Rookie wins this LAPD battle hands down! Sorry CBS. Just don’t cancel Blue Bloods!
I’m wondering if The Amazing Race will also be playing during the Olympics like CBB or if it will take a break like the scripted shows. Either way, I’m just happy it’s back!
Why move SWAT to Sunday? Setting it up to fail imo. NCIS Hawaii could go permanently as far as I am concerned.
Great😊👍
