The S.W.A.T. team will be deployed no more, now that CBS has cancelled the Friday-night cop drama after six seasons, TVLine has learned. The Season 6 finale, airing May 19 at 8/7c, will now serve as the series finale.
“For six seasons, the amazing talents of the S.W.A.T. cast led by Shemar Moore, the writers, producers and crew guided by executive producers Shawn Ryan, Andy Dettman and Aaron Rahsaan Thomas brought us compelling, action-packed episodes that also addressed important social issues and contributed to the success of our primetime lineup,” CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said in a statement. “We sincerely thank them for their incredible work and passion and also thank our dedicated fans who tuned in every week.”
The Shemar Moore-fronted ensemble drama this season has been averaging 6.8 million total viewers and a 0.7 rating, up (6%) in audience and off just a tenth in the demo from its Season 5 numbers.
Out of the 14 drama series that CBS has aired this TV season, S.W.A.T. ranks No. 10 in total audience (besting the already-renewed So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas, the sunsetting NCIS: LA and midseason freshman True Lies), while tying for No. 3 in the demo.
S.W.A.T. of course topped TVLine’s “Which Bubble Shows Should Be Saved?” poll this year (and for a second time since 2020) by earning 15 percent of your votes. But as Deadline reported in March, the long-running Sony TV/CBS Studios co-production was facing some belt-tightening, before any renewal was handed out. (Blue Bloods similarly saw its cast take double-digit pay cuts in order to secure its own renewal, for a 14th season.)
TVLine’s Renewal Scorecard has been updated to reflect the news. Will you miss Hondo and the S.W.A.T. team? Hit the comments to share your thoughts on the cancellation.
Well this sucks! This literally came out right after the episode aired.
I agree. Swat is a good show.
Really like SWAT. and all the members of the team. Don’t like this decision to cancel.

Booooooooo! SWAT is a good show, and I looked forward to watching it every Friday. The ratings were good, CBS could have given a 7th and final season.
I am very upset I love Friday lineup
Most definetly AGREE! SHEMAR MOORE is a
grest actor!@@
Eh. This season hasn’t been as enjoyable. Sucks it won’t get a proper send off.
Nooooooo!!!
WHY do they always get rid of the great shows. S.W.A.T. seemed so realistic and the acting was above par by all. Hopefully CBS will reconsider axing the show.
I also will miss SWAT a lot. Also will definetly
miss Shemar Moore!!
I agree, they always get rid of the good shows and keep the crappy ones that no oe watches!
Agree Joyce 100%
Joyce I agree with you. The crappy shows are much CHEAPER to produce. Don’t worry–S.W.A.T. will return—on one of the streaming networks. More money into the network.
I agree with you. They always get rid of the good shows and keep the crappy ones on.
Agree!! What a bad decision 😕😟
Totally agree
They won’t reconsider. There is a change.org petition still trying to get a new season of Macgyver back. Canceled Magnum PI and got picked up by NBC.
Love the show! Always looked forward to it.
Hoping Netflix will pick it up or Paramount!
I love action but who cares they’ve been getting rid of everything I like for the longest I don’t get it…another one bites the dust I’m not surprised but very disappointed
I agree
This is horrible. CBS has to fire some of those people. SWAT was and still is my favorite. Magnum PI got picked up by another network. Come on NBC pick up SWAT I will stop watching CBS.
Pretty much assume with the WGA strike going on and the strong probability that some of other unions will follow suit when their contracts are up for negotiation end of June that any series not renewed yet will more than likely be canceled after this current season
I’m sure many fans of the show are upset about this, as for me not so much. I was watching previous seasons on Netflix and I fell off of it during the 3rd or 4th season? I can’t remember which season I tuned out of. I think it was because of the many episodes there were to catch up that I didn’t continue on and also learning of Alonso’s departure in the 5th season. I didn’t like the poly storyline of hers (no judgement, she deserved better), but I did enjoy her chemistry with the team, especially with Street. Best of luck to the cast and crew!
I’m with you on the poly story. I didn’t like how Kira kind of baited the hook and had Chris fall for her then introduced Ty. It felt manipulative because Chris didn’t want to lose her so she agreed. She definitely deserved better.
Well, she ended up with better, so I guess it all worked out.
Agree
Please don’t cancel SWAT!!! I love it
I like swat and all of the characters. A lot of good shows are being taken off to make room for shows most people don’t want to watch.
Read “reason is for cheaper shoes.” Look at what happened to get Blue Bloods renewed. It had to get a reduction in cast and others pay. CBS and all networks do not care what we like to watch and support, just their own bottom line. We are the losers!!
Shows not shoes
Don’t get confused. If they didn’t care, every show would’ve been canceled and replaced with new ones. Bottom line is just under the tip.
Even “the crappy ones that no oe watches! (lol)” would’ve been done.
Haven’t even watched this season yet
Guess I won’t bother
Not surprised. Season 6 was weak.
I really love this show. Why can’t another network pick it up? It’s so worth it!
Maybe NBC will take it just like Magnum PI
Universal, sister company of NBC owns Magnum, it basically was taken back in house so to speak. Sony and CBS own swat jointly and CBS is Paramount. Paramount isn’t going to save a show it’s sister canceled and that Sony half owns.
Pissed!! Bad call.
In a couple seasons CBS (and every other broadcast network) will be begging for close to 7mil viewers + delay playback.
Maybe The CW wants to pick it up as part of their “new branding”.
Doubtful given that the CW is getting dropped by 8 affiliates and I’m sure others will follow suit. The CW is pretty much dead and buried.
The CW could maybe afford SWAT’s food services budget.
Not gonna happen. CW wants cheaper-produced shows (most from other countries) that’ll help it soon reach profitability. They will never pick up S.W.A.T. Not even for Jesse Stone style TV movies.
I’m very disappointed that SWAT had been canceled. A great show with outstanding cast
Damn!!!
Swat is a great show why are all the good shows canceledru
Dang… CBS, you bite!! Time for a pick up over at NBC Peacock!! Run it after Magnum PI !!
I literally gasped!! Watching tonight’s episode as I’m typing this. OMG!!!
Always been a fan of S.W.A.T. Sorry to see it’s not being renewed. Most of the new shows this season are not near the same level as S.W.A.T.
This all came down to money, CBS didn’t want to pay for a older series. They are hoping to strike gold again when they canceled Magnum P.I. for Fire Country. Hopefully the show can find a new home or platform.
Very disappointed can’t another channel pick it up
I’m not happy about the cancellation! I have really enjoyed watching the show and truly wish y’all could find a way to save it! I’m gonna miss it!
Again CBS cancels a great show like they did Magnum!
I love this show but I have to admit it’s not the same without Lina Esco. It seemed to lose a bit of its edge after she left. On the bright side, maybe Derek Morgan can rejoin his pals at the BAU. Wishful thinking, I know.
