New Suits Series Eyed Amid Franchise's Exploding Popularity
The details are still being ironed out, but a new Suits series is in early development at NBCUniversal.
According to our sister pub Deadline, series creator Aaron Korsh — who just last week declared that he "underestimated" the show's popularity amid its Netflix-buoyed resurgence — is working on a new iteration of the ex-USA Network phenom that is neither a revival or reboot. Rather, the hour-long project would be set in the Suits universe and revolve around new characters in a new location (possibly Los Angeles).
A series order is said to be imminent, although it remains unclear where the latest spinoff would land — although NBCU-owned Peacock seems a likely destination.
Renewed interest in Suits and its continued streaming success has for months spurred revival speculation. Korsh, however, squashed the buzz over the summer, maintaining via social media that "there is no #Suits reboot or anything in the works," adding, "Strike would have to end, some network or streamer would have to reach out and then we would have to collectively want to. Which is no small thing."
That said, Korsh noted, "I would consider it, but it's not my priority creatively."
With the release of Nielsen's latest U.S. ranking of streaming series/movies, Suits was No. 1 for a 12th (straight!) week, eclipsing the record of 11 (non-consecutive) times previously held by Ozark.
