It’s Official: Stranger Things Will Not Conclude With Season 4
With Stranger Things Season 4 turned upside down by COVID-19, fans can rest assured that the show will eventually go on — and stay on for longer than some had anticipated.
In a new interview, series creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer shot down speculation that the delayed fourth season will be the Netflix phenom’s last.
“Season 4 won’t be the end,” EP Ross Duffer told The Hollywood Reporter (per Nerdist). “We know what the end is, and we know when it is. [The coronavirus pandemic] has given us time to look ahead, figure out what is best for the show. Starting to fill that out gave us a better idea of how long we need to tell that story.”
The Duffer brothers did not reveal how long they envision the series going. A Netflix rep declined comment.
Production on Season 4 of Stranger Things had been underway for “a couple of weeks” when the COVID-19 pandemic “swept in and we got shut down” back in March, co-star David Harbour recently revealed. As far as a timetable for restarting production, “We don’t really know what the future holds,” he conceded at the time. “I don’t feel like anybody knows. We’re all playing it by ear. We want to get up and running as soon as possible.”
What is known thus far about Season 4? Well, Harbour’s presumed-dead Hopper is still alive, albeit imprisoned in Russia (as seen in a teaser video). On the casting front, Game of Thrones alum Tom Wlaschiha will play one of the Hopper’s Russian keepers, while Brett Gelman and Priah Ferguson — aka journalist-turned-conspiracy theorist Murray Bauman and Lucas’ sassy kid sister Erica Sinclair, respectively — have been upped to series regulars.
I thought they had previously said it was planned for 5 seasons?
I believe they said initially “4 or 5 seasons,” and since they’ve ruled out 4 being the last, I’m going to assume it’ll be 5 now. I think that’ll be a good run for them.

The Duffers have proven their instincts for storytelling at this point, so if they say there’s a plan, I’m excited to see where it leads.
Also, hasn’t Joel Stoffer from Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. been listed as part of the cast of season 4? I hope he’s playing someone who helps Hopper escape captivity.
At the rate these kids grow, what they shot back in March is probably useless now, to blend in with new footage.

If they shot chronologically, which is really rare for limited series.
They shot all stuff with Hopper in the prison, nothing with the kids yet.
They only shot footage of Hopper. They didn’t get more than a day into the Kids dailies.
I always figured it would be at least five seasons. And whatever it ended up being, I assumed they would announce it as the final season, way ahead of time. I never even remotely considered that four would be the last season.
I would love a season 5, But they may be referring to a Comic adaptation
It’s going 5 seasons. Probably an extended season, possibly split in 2 to help Netflix.
This show is for kids and people with no brains. What a waste.

How is this supposed to be new information? The Duffer brothers have said for awhile now that the series would most likely end with Season 4 or Season 5. Now we have a (somewhat) vague clue as to what season will be it’s last: Season 5. But then again, I could be wrong but I’m guessing the show will wrap up with Season 5.
Stranger Things has been a great season for sure. I really wish that they continue it for Season 5 as well.

What about this…. Why did you take the series off i was going to binge watch it with my sister because she always see me watching it so i finished them and this morning i was gonna wake her up so we could watch it together now its not there.
