Well, it didn’t take a genius to see this coming: Netflix has cancelled Pretty Smart after just one season, TVLine has learned exclusively. [pmc_inline_gallery]
The news comes shortly after TVLine reported that Emily Osment has been elevated to series-regular status on CBS’ Young Sheldon.
Pretty Smart starred Osment as Chelsea, a snooty intellectual who was forced to move in with her “not-so-intellectual” sister Claire (Filthy Rich‘s Olivia Macklin) after getting dumped by her boyfriend. Along for the ride were Claire’s hot, dumb roommates: personal trainer Grant (Runaways‘ Gregg Sulkin), lawyer-turned-healer Solana (Deputy‘s Cinthya Carmon) and social media influencer Jayden (Tiny Pretty Things‘ Michael Hsu Rosen).
The 10-episode first (and now only) season ended with Chelsea and Grant preparing to tell Claire — who used to date Grant, by the way — that they have feelings for one another. Unfortunately, Claire also had a romantic revelation about her ex-boyfriend, opting to dump her new boyfriend (played by Kevin Miles aka “Jake from State Farm”) and get back together with Grant. As for which sister Grant would have chosen, we may never know.
Jack Dolgen and Doug Mand created the sitcom, executive-producing alongside Kourtney Kang, Jim Brandon, Brian Singleton and Pamela Fryman.

Disappointed not shocked though. Kind of hard to succeed when the only way people hear about you is through ads on Instagram that people really don’t pay attention to.

Who’s gonna tell them their success rate with half hour scripted multi cams is tragic? Only ones that come to mind that made it passed a single season are The Ranch, Alexa and Katie and One Day At A Time.

I think watching that pretty smart TV show gives you a bad day maybe that’s why I got canceled only after one season think about it

For cancelling this type of crap? The writers of this garbage should be more ashamed what they put out than Netflix who blindly takes everything. If there is no viewers meaning the writing is crap and acting c-class then don`t attack Netflix!

Emily Osment has been a great actress from the start of her career. Young and Hungry really showed her comedic talent. Unfortunately Pretty Smart did not showcase those natural talents for her. By the second episode I watched just because I like her and actually knew it wouldn’t make it. Seeing Emily on Young Sheldon is a terrific role and I believe her character an Georgie have some great stories coming up which she will bring to life.
Ugh why do I bother watching shows that don’t have at least two or three seasons already made. I hate watching something and finding out it’s cancelled. Invested my time and emotions and left with nothing but a cliffhanger

I’m disappointed. It was not very good at first but the show got better and better. I really start to love the characters. But 10 episodes is not enough. You need at least 15/20 episodes for a sitcom to make the audience fall in love with them and make us know them well enough to laugh instantly at a situation. Even cult amazing show like Friends and Will and Grace have not that great first episodes. Pretty Smart was a really nice and lovely show, sad to see it go. At least 2 seasons would have work for me.
How I Met Your Father had a 10-episode first season and lots of broadcast network shows get picked up for a full 22 before their initial order of 13 has aired.
There are some examples of critically-acclaimed shows taking time to build an audience, but there was really nothing very special going on with this one.
Netflix clearly looks at how many people start watching and how many made it to the end of 10. And that’s why it was cancelled.
I agree, I prefer 22 ish episodes a season. It makes for better character development, better stories, and you can immerse yourself in the vibe of the show. Pilots sometimes are rough, it usually gets better with each episode. I liked the lightness of this show.

I liked this show and finished it in a night, really sad to hear there won’t be a second season. I was all for team grant and Chelsea! Very sad right now!! Even tho the show gave a silly vibe it still draws you in.

Aww the show grew on me … i just stumbled across this as a time pass and now i m hooked , atleast netflix should have proper endings, its like on cliffhanger now we will never know who grant ended with
I’m so upset that this got canceled. I was really looking forward to season 2 I hope things will change minds. Create a season 2 and at least end it with the proper farewell ending to give the fans what we have been asking and hoping for a while waiting for season 2 to come about
