Freeform is cutting Alison and Mona’s sleuthing days short, cancelling Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists after just one season, TVLine has learned.
A spinoff of the immensely popular Pretty Little Liars — which ran from 2010 to 2017, ushering ABC Family into the Freeform era — The Perfectionists relocated fan favorites Alison (Sasha Pieterse) and Mona (Janel Parrish) from Rosewood, Pa., to Beacon Heights, Ore., where they were immediately thrust into another all-consuming murder mystery.
New additions to the PLL world included Sofia Carson as aspiring fashion designer Ava, Sydney Park as future politician Caitlin, Eli Brown as cellist Dylan, Hayley Erin as presumed-dead Taylor and Kelly Rutherford as Taylor’s mother, Claire.
In addition to the season’s main mystery (who killed Nolan?), the Perfectionists finale introduced another puzzle for the Liars to assemble: Someone by the name of “The Professor” knew that Taylor shot Caitlin’s boyfriend, Jeremy (Graeme Thomas King), and they were already exploiting the group using everyone’s greatest fears.
During a post-finale interview with TVLine, showrunner Marlene King played it coy while discussing The Perfectionists‘ new Big Bad, simply confirming that “The Professor” is someone who “lives in the world of the school.” (Any theories?)
TVLine’s Cable Renewal Scorecard has been updated to reflect Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists‘ cancellation.

That’s sucks. I liked it.
same indeed for me too
i liked this show more than pll itself because of it being darker and to me this show was better than pll tbh
Not surprise. It was a bad show. Missing a major character.
I figured it would go 2-3 seasons.
It was clear from the beginning on that the show is a dead man walking. Bad writing, bad acting, horrible ratings. Freeform expected it to be as popular as PLL for no reason.
It literally got rated 100 percent on rotten tomatoes but ok
I can say they killed off all shows i was interested in too soon
Stichers, The perfectionist, the lying game, the 7 lives of…
Agreed!!! 9 Lives of Chloe King was a fantastic show!! And Stitchers was absolute perfection that was ended far too early.
Perfectionist series wasn’t perfect but it was good, interesting and intriguing.
Not surprising.. they took the two least interesting PLL characters and introduced some other boring ones….. Hopefully Cloak & Dagger gets renewed.. wonder what’s taking so long with that one.
I always thought Alison dragged down the original series. She was better as the villian or when the character was believed dead. The central four was perfect. Perfectionists was a pale immitation. They tried too hard. Reformed Alison was a downer… Mona was the best part of the new series.
I agree.. the actress that played Allison wasn’t strong enough to carry a series. that’s why she worked best in small doses on the original show.
I totally disagree
It may have been because Sasha Pieterse was only 12 in the shooting of Pilot, the first episode of PLL. However they only found out AFTER they shot pilot. She came back in later seasons when she was old enough to take on the role of Alison. Rumor was that Sasha was originally cast as Hanna but after they found out her real age, the re casted her as Alison as having a twelve year old do some of the things Hanna does wasn’t ideal. Apparently they had to make some changes to the plot to keep Alison in the story but not have Sasha on film doing some fairly gruesome and ‘other’ things.
I disagree.
Alison was totally a one-note actress with a relentlessly somber delivery. I loved her character on PLL, however, I also agree that she just did not have the range to be the lead in this series.
you’re dead wrong. Mona was easily the best part of PLL.
There was something special about the first series. The four girls were so brilliant, and the casting perfect. And the A mystery made the show. Perfectionists was a pale immitation, as they tried to make it too close to PLL when the book source was not like what the show was… I liked the little tidbits about the original show, but I greatly missed Aria, Spencer, Hannah and Emily.
I am not surprised. It was painful to watch and I only did because of how much I loved Mona on the original. The writing wasn’t good, the characters were bland, and it was so predictable.
Agreed, Mona was one of my favourites too. Unfortunately even she couldn’t save this series and I stopped watching at episode 5.
I’m upset. I really enjoyed the show. I hope someone will pick it up. I sat on the edge of my seat each week I watched it.
this is not okay they need to not cancel it. they can not leave the series like this, no one knows who killed Nolan or who the professor is. this would not have happened if it was the original pretty little liars but no only the spin off would get canceled.
I’m so sad by this. I loved the show!
Should’ve known, it took way too long for them to give an update or act interested in it
Freeform really doesn’t give PLL spinoffs a chance. There are programs on there that have worse or similar ratings and they got renewed. Ravenswood got cancelled after insteresting things started to happen. It still did well trending on Twitter and whatnot. I think the only thing with a PLL association that Freeform will support is a tv movie. All they needed was to replace a few characters and step up the writing.
The ratings were horrible in contrast to Pretty Little Liars who even in their final season was drawing a lot more than what a new show could provide. So, business wise. I can see it. It was obvious since the show sat for so much time in pre-production. They knew the show wasn’t working. But because of their deal with King, and were hoping maybe… But nope.
Time to finally quit that pathetic a- network for good!!
I hope it gets picked up somewhere else. They left a lot of questions unanswered.
Not surprising since the two book series were never connected in the first place! Would have been better without the PLL chicks.
Can you pretend now that this show didnt happen canon wise ?
OMG this, please.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO oh come on this was getting better with each episode
i agree!!
I wish they could do a two hour movie to wrap up all the loose ends. I wonder if there is any chance of that.
What are they gonna do about Cloak & Dagger?
Who killed Nolan?
Really??
Your not going to give this another go?
Sad for the fans but I expected this as soon as it was announced they were doing a spin-off. Couldn’t last past the first two seasons of original. Figures.
I hate this network. This was the last new show I was gonna give a chance, but seemingly everything gets canceled so quickly with no resolution.
Yep sick of shows being cancelled with out a chance! Too many reality based shows or doctor or cops or super natural! Why can’t we just have one soap opera type!
This totally sucks! I was really hoping it would come back and I thought it was already filming too. I remember watching an interview with the cast from Disneys Descendants 3 after Cameron Boyce passed away and the interviewer said that Sofia Carson couldn’t be there because she was set filming but recorded a message. And they played it. It really looked like Sofia was filming The Perfectionists based on what she was wearing and everything. This show was great and had potential to get even better! Maybe they can shop it somewhere else. Would’ve been great if they just moved it to Disney+
Aww, Cameron (what a bright light he was, so sad!). Yeah, I remember that. But she wasn’t filming TP. TP had wrapped long before Cameron passed away. They filmed TP last summer. They were done by August/Sept (2018). The Descendants 3 promos and Boyce’s passing is a lot more recent.
I was really hesitant to watch this since I thought it would be horrible, so I only recently binged it on Hulu. Mona and Ali were my favorite characters and I so loved seeing them work together. It seems like, from the comments I’m seeing here, that I’m in the minority, but I thought the writing was much better than the original and that they made the unconnected The Perfectionists work within the universe of the original. I did think some acting was pretty bad, especially at first, but it got better. And I was very intrigued by the ending. I wanted it to last at least another season, and they better give us a wrap up movie!
Im pretty pissed bout them cancelling after the 1st season of pretty little liars of perfectionist. I mean if your going to cancel why even make a first season, why even make the show to begin with. If your going to cancel atleast make one more season doing twist n turns and telling us who the person is thats doing all this. Not fair to the people thats been waiting to hear bout the 2nd season.
