George Lopez’s family feud isn’t ending anytime soon: NBC has renewed Lopez vs. Lopez for Season 2, TVLine has learned.
The multi-cam has received an 13-episode pickup, and will return at midseason. (To see NBC’s newly announced fall schedule, click here.)
Season to date, Lopez vs. Lopez is averaging 2.4 million total viewers and a 0.3 demo rating (with Live+7 playback). Out of the five sitcoms that NBC has aired this TV season, it ranks No. 2 in audience (trailing only Night Court) and ties for third in the demo (besting only Grand Crew).
The fates of fellow NBC bubble comedies American Auto, Grand Crew and Young Rock have not yet been determined.
Described as a “hilarious and heartwarming comedy,” Lopez vs. Lopez “tells the story of a working-class old-school Latino who moves in with his modern Gen Z daughter (played by Lopez’s real-life daughter Mayan) as they rebuild their dysfunctional relationship one argument at a time. It’s old vs. new, father vs. daughter, Lopez vs Lopez.”
In addition to the titular father and daughter, Lopez vs. Lopez also stars Selenis Leyva, Brice Gonzalez, Matt Shively and Al Madrigal. TVLine gave the Season 1 finale an average reader grade of “A-.” (Read our recap to see how they set up Season 2.)
TVLine’s Renewal/Cancellation Scorecard has been updated to reflect Lopez vs. Lopez‘s pickup. Are you looking forward to Season 2?
Really glad to hear this news! It’s really nice to have a show on the air with a Latin Cast with characters and storylines that I can enjoy and relate to.
Very happy about this renewal!
Fingers crossed for Grand Crew.. one of our favorite shows!
I agree!
Me, too! Love Grand Crew and its cast.
The little boy in this show is awesome. And my teen loves Matt Shively from other shows she has seen him do. I hated the pilot, but I’m glad I stuck with it. It has improved.
He is the worst of them all.
This one surprised me. I watch a lot of TV, including many sitcoms, and this one is one of my least favorites.
Much bigger fan of Young Rock and I thought American Auto was much funnier in season 2 (although also not one of my favs). I don’t watch Grand Crew.
Fantastic news!
I enjoy this show very much.
I think it started out slow but the 3 episodes I loved the most was the holiday episode when he had almost the entire cast from his orignal abc sitcom the George Lopez show and I caught it near the end of it’s run but comedies like Lopez vs Lopez the best way to get a quick laugh is inside jokes and you had Constance Marie show up to dinner without her husband because she was married to George on the other show and then you had the mother say she was constantly throwing shoes at his big head and then Danny Trejo I lost count of how many in jokes they had about Danny’s career and then this last episode they had his sponsor as Calvin aka snoop dog which means he’ll be around for ar least half the epidodes
I’m so happy it wasn’t canceled. I luv the show ♥️♥️♥️
This show has grown on me. It’s far from flawless, but it has heart and lately has been genuinely funny.
“American Auto” is by far the best-written show on NBC — a perfect parody of corporate America, so, of course, the network suits probably don’t understand it.
Have never watched Lopez vs. Lopez. Really hoping that Young Rock — one of the best and most family-friendly sitcoms on TV today — gets renewed.
Grand Cow took a huge dive this season in quality. As did American Auto. Night Court is terribly written and — with the exception of the great John Larroquette — very poorly acted. Its got its renewal way too fast after curious fans of the original all tuned in to the subpar pilot.
This terrible program gets a second season but great shows don’t. The laugh track alone is enough to get it cancelled.
👏 I’m so glad that George Lopez’s new show has been allowed a second season.
It’s such a hilarious 🤣 show.
He has had some great guest stars .
I’d like to see American Auto renewed, but I might be disappointed again by NBC – I wanted Mr. Mayor to stick around, too.
So happy for Lopez V Lopez but I’m crossing my fingers American Auto gets a renewal. Even if they put it only on Peacock but I wish they continue with it.
Yeah!! So glad to get the news on this show, & Animal Control! Great comedies.
Can’t believe a show like Lopez is renewed and two quality, adult shows, AlaskaDaily and Milo Ventimilia’: drama are not. It’s infuriating and disappointing. Why bother to make a series that is intelligent when obviously Americans just want to slump on the couch with their hands down their pants and laugh at stereotypes.
They have to renew the show. POC.
