Olmec is finally ready to pick on somebody his own size. The iconic Nickelodeon game show Legends of the Hidden Temple, now featuring adults as contestants, is being revived at The CW.
In addition to the aforementioned giant stone head, this “reimagining” of the classic series will also bring back other fan-favorite elements, including the Moat Crossings, the Steps of Knowledge and the Temple Run. The team names — Purple Parrots, Blue Barracudas, Orange Iguanas, Red Jaguars, Silver Snakes and Green Monkeys — will also remain unchanged.
This revamped Hidden Temple promises “tougher challenges” and “much bigger prizes” as each episode pits five teams against one other to enter Olmec’s Temple, discover a treasure and return it to its rightful place — all while avoiding the infamous Temple Guards.
Inspired by Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda and the Indiana Jones movie series (did you know that?!), Legends of the Hidden Temple originally aired from 1993 to 1995 on Nickelodeon, with Kirk Fogg serving as host and Dee Bradley Baker providing various voiceovers. A scripted movie inspired by the game premiered on Nickelodeon in 2016. Both the original game show and the movie are currently available to stream on Paramount+.
This revival was originally developed for the ill-fated streaming service Quibi, as TVLine reported back in Dec. 2019.
Okay, but where do I sign up to compete???
Right?! I’ve already started recruiting friends to compete with. I need to know where to submit our audition tape!
actually i saw something on facebook where some posted where you can sign up
Really Coby? But oh uh do you need to pass a physical fitness test in order to appear on the new reboot of Legends Of The Hidden Temple?
Yep, I’ll be watching.
Excellent! I hope they bring back Carmen Sandiego next.
Double Dare for me! and bring back Marc Summers for the adult version.
Double Dare was brought back in 2018. The 2nd season ended in December 2019.
Oh Phoenix didn’t you know they did bring back Double Dare for two seasons with Liza Koshy as the hostess and Marc cohosting and it was Double Dare with the 8th obstacle in The Obstacle Course being called Mount St. Double Dare and the contestants trying to climb a mountain to win the grand prize. But you know what it worked. And you know what I want to see a darker version of Nick Arcade and instead of Level 1 or a certain number of points it could be a random video game challenge and the “enemies” could be three dimensional and the graphics updated and they could’ve new “wizards” each one controlling a natural element and the grand prize could be a free trip to anywhere in North America rather than to the place where the show’s being filmed. Like for just entering The Video Zone they’ll win a $300 gift certificate at Gamestop plus a subscription and getting any game they want and if they can reach the wizard before 60 seconds are up then they’ll win a video game console of their choosing plus a set of games included with that console and if they can defeat the wizard before 60 seconds then they’ll win the trip to anywhere in North America and if they can defeat the wizard at 5 seconds or less then they’ll win a $500 bonus plus a free subscription to a video game magazine of their choosing. Very creative aren’t I?
They did try to reboot GUTS by introducing a family version of it called My Family Has GUTS but yeahhhhh like look what they did with The Aggro Crag like we 90s kids remember when the original version had Mike O’Malley a very hot gorgeous British woman refereeing the events and all versions of The Aggro Crag being kickass but look what the reboot did I’m not joshing this is our Aggro Crag like like come on they didn’t even try it only looks half complete.
As I said on Twitter: is it possible for my childhood to scream with joy? (I’d sign up, but I don’t think I’d be fast enough to get through the temple, find the idol pieces, etc.)
I’m most definitely in. At least to watch.
Not gonna work with adults. The entire thing was fun with kids in it for kids.
How do you know it wont work? This could be great Olmec could actually tell faithful versions of each legend, the temple guards could be scarier, the contestants could actually let Olmec finish the question before being trigger happy they would actually know how to put the monkey together they could’ve new rooms new temple games better prizes and much more for an adult generation.) And who knows perhaps they could include female temple guards.
I’ll be watching.
Yay!!
