Law & Order, SVU and Organized Crime Renewed at NBC
The rule of law (and order) remains in effect at NBC: The network has renewed Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime, TVLine has learned.
In addition, the Peacock Net has handed renewals to Dick Wolf’s Windy City-based procedurals Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. (Read more about that here.)
The renewals mean that the flagship Law & Order will be heading into Season 23, with the Mariska Hargitay-led SVU entering Season 25 and Chris Meloni’s SVU spinoff Organized Crime reaching Season 4 — though one of the three series has been handed a reduced episode order.
Season to date, Law & Order: SVU is averaging 7.1 million total viewers and a 1.0 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), ranking No. 4 and No. 2 (tied with Chicago Fire) among the 11 dramas that NBC has aired this TV season, while Organized Crime (5.5 million/0.8) places sixth and fifth and Law & Order proper (6 mil/0.7) comes in fifth and sixth. Of note, all three shows are up a tick in viewers versus their previous seasons.

Its been said on variety that OC has 13 eps while SVU and Flagship LO have full 22. I knew OC was the weakest of the trio but it seems that it really seems to be phasing out.
I disagree about OC being the weakest – I feel the L&O reboot has not be done well at all, I have yet to be able to sit through one whole episode of L&O.
I think OC’s issue at its showrunner level, the acting & stories are terrific but the problems behind the scenes make it risky for NBC to commit to a full season.
In my experience when a show gets a shortened season it usually means the end is neigh. I wouldn’t be all that shocked if its the first of the trio to end first. Keeping Meloni after getting him back after his initial departure probably costs the most.

Love the L&O franchise. CO keeps getting better with each season. With the original, I wish there was a change in the ADAs. Just not feeling that combo. As much as I love Anthony Anderson, Cosgrove and Shaw have better chemistry as partners.

i love law and order but i think they should put chris meloni and Mariska Hargitay back together again.
Benson and stabler need to be together on SVU. Their relationship is so strong and fans would enjoy seeing them together again.

Happy (and not a bit surprised) about the renewals for SVU and OC but the mothership L & O is a boring waste of airtime. The network was just too wary of alienating Wolf by canceling it and thus ending the show’s ‘reimagined streak’ of seasons/episodes.
L&O:OC needs to stop playing musical chairs with the showrunners‼️

That doesn’t feel like a good sign about OC? I know that they have had a lot of issues with the multiple showrunners but has it gotten so bad that they can’t keep the show running for a full season? Only other possible reason is that they are going to bring Meloni onto SVU or the mothership for a while. I know that there was talk about reducing the number of 10pm shows on NBC. Is this part of it?
Law & Order has improved a lot this season! Still not what it used to be, but Mehcad Brooks has been an excellent addition and the storylines have improved. Also, I hope SVU has moved on from the Eliott and Olivia storyline. She had a lot more chemistry with the not very long lasting ADA Peter Stone. Olivia and Elliott have zero romantic chemistry so please, please stop forcing it. It’s embarrassing to watch them together. Just let them move on! And please utilize the newbies more as well as Finn on SVU so it’s not the Olivia show. That’s not asking too much! Just makes me miss Capt. Cragen. He was a real Capt. I always feel like Olivia is on a power trip.
I love the main Law and Order show, and have watched all of its original run many many many times. The new reboot is… not good. I’d love to know why the writing for the legal side is so awful. Hugh Dancy has been amazing in so many things, but is just not suited for this role. It’s hard to care about the character because it all seems so fake.
I just can’t buy Dancy as a NYer. At least dress him in cheap suits. He looks like he is wearing very expensive suits which does not fit with the whole overworked underpaid vibe that has always been part of that job/role.

Love Cosgrove and Shaw (And I remember them both fondly from other shows too). I like Dixon. Maroun has grown on me but I just can’t with Price. Something has just been off since the start. Is Linus Roache busy? Or better yet, Angie Harmon?

Furthermore as long as Mariska Hargitay and Ice-T are staying on L&A:SVU, the show will go on forever.
It won’t ever be the same without them.

So happy that the Chicago shows have been renewed, especially Chicago PD. Hopefully next season there will be more episodes, not as many time hiatus periods.
