NBC is staying put in the land(s) Down Under, having given an early Season 3 renewal to La Brea — just as the back half of Season 2 kicks off tonight at 9/8c, with back-to-back episodes.[pmc_inline_gallery]
TVLine hears that the initial Season 3 order is for just six episodes, though that could be increased down the road.
Through the first half of its 14-episode sophomore run, La Brea is averaging 5.4 million total weekly viewers and a 0.6 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), ranking seventh among all NBC dramas behind the mighty #OneChicago trio and the Law & Order franchise.
La Brea when it first bowed in September 2021 followed Eve Harris (played by Natalie Zea) and her son Josh (Jack Martin) as they and others who had toppled into a mysterious Los Angeles sinkhole navigated the strange world they had oh-so-gingerly landed in. Meanwhile, above ground, Eve’s estranged husband Gavin (Eoin Macken) and their daughter Izzy (Zyra Gorecki) tried to make sense of what happened, while also puzzling over how Gavin’s “visions” fit into it all.
When last we tuned into the Australia-based production, Eve, Gavin, Josh, Izzy, Gavin’s mom Caroline, Riley and Sam had outwitted a team of Lazarus agents to leap out of 1988 and return to 10,000 B.C. When Season 2 resumes this Tuesday night, they will aim to breach the Lazarus Tower and upload Caroline’s computer virus that will stop all sinkholes — despite knowing that this means they will never get home again. Sam and Riley, however, are resolved to squeezing in a trip back to present day L.A. before said portal gets shut down.
Also, just as the reunited Harris family took said leap into the 1988 sinkhole, Gavin had his first “vision” in a while — and it wasn’t of the past, but a future moment where Eve is dying! And ahead is on top of a looming murder mystery that kicks off with the second episode back.

This is one strange show, stupid in away. But it draws me to watch it
Still have the first season and the first half of the second season on dvr guess I can finally start watching it. Surprised the Chicago’s and law and order shows haven’t gotten the early renewal yet
I think a lot of people just enjoy the campiness of the show, it’s part of the charm. Yay for the season 3 renewal but only 6 episodes? Is producing a full run of 14 episodes, in Australia at that, such a precarious expense?
Yeah I have a feeling it will likely get bumped up to 14 as I think season 1 was also intitally only 6
Word that it’s only six episodes. And it’s expected to be cancelled after Season 3. The show will be beginning shooting in March. So, there probably won’t be any way to add to the count. It’s likely only been ordered to give the network some content assuming there is a writer’s strike.
Another show I truly enjoy is renewed! I’m looking forward to second half of season 2 starting tonight, and hope they give us more than 6 episodes in season 3.
Great news…
I was concerned it might get cancelled. This is great news. So glad it’s back again to resume season 2!
Shame they didn´t cancel this brainle(ss) poop! Horrible writing and acting. Bring something worth to watch please!
Agree, the first show looked promising, but at this point horrible. The acting, writting and storylines are armature at best. This show has been sinking and just silly now. They have really messed it up.
This is proof that even hate watching can get shows renewed not once, but twice. So everyone who criticize it, but still watching, keep going. We might get even more
Love this show!!!
Please don’t let Levi be gone!
More information–only six episodes, filming starting in March to wrap up the show in its current form. In exchange for reducing their contractually-guaranteed minimum of 10 episodes per season to 6, the actors were offered being let out of having to return for any future seasons. So if the show were to continue in any way past that 6 episodes, either as a part of season 3 or a season 4, new deals would have to be made with the cast (unlikely) or a new cast would be hired in a re-start the show (also unlikely). At least instead of just outright cancelling, it’s getting the opportunity for a wrap-up. Hopefully the writers/producers deliver.
Well, deadline just reports “Likely To End With Abbreviated Season 3 As Networks Start Building Strike Contingency”.
Hot dang! Keep bringing the crazy!
6 episodes? The reports are true. S3 will be the end.
Love this show. The hr goes by so fast.
Was glad to see Levi (Nicholas Gonzalez) back!
