Criminal Minds Revival In Early Development at Paramount+
Just a year after concluding its 15-season run on CBS, Criminal Minds is slinking out of the TV graveyard.
TVLine has learned that upstart streamer Paramount+ is looking to revive the killer procedural via a limited event series (that sources say could also once again become an ongoing series). [pmc_inline_gallery]
Insiders caution that the project — co-produced once again by CBS Studios and ABC Signature — remains in its infancy and no deals have been completed. The goal, we’re told, would be for the new iteration to feature a mix of legacy and new characters, not dissimilar to what CBS has planned with its in-the-works CSI sequel series.
It was exactly one year ago today that Criminal Minds aired its meh-received series finale (TVLine readers gave the episode an average grade of “B.”, while we handed it a less enthusiastic “C”). The final-season cast included series vets Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Matthew Gray Gubler, Kirsten Vangsness and Paget Brewster as well as Aisha Tyler, Adam Rodriguez and Daniel Henney.
CBS All Access is set to be rebranded as Paramount+ on March 4. The new service will combine original content with shows from CBS and cable outlets MTV, Comedy Central, BET, Paramount Network and Nickelodeon.
Reps for Paramount Plus, CBS Studios and ABC Signature declined to comment for this story.

So long as it brings back the original cast – Or at least the cast in the finale. Plus Hotch. We need Hotch back. But I’ll settle for MGG and Joe Mantengna, I’m a happy camper/ (PS I loved the finale. Thought it was very apropos.

Hodge as issues we’re not perfect. He’s a very good actor. Love you Thomas Gibson, love all of you.
We are not “issues”, we are human beings and TG is a very complicated one. The fact that he has hardly been working since CM is kinda telling…. bad reputation spreads wide.
I hope they bring him back. There are two sides to every story. The man traveled to and from Texas to work. That’s got to be exhausting. He was going through a divorce. When I went through mine I don’t think I was all sunshine and butterflies. He’s a great actor. The show was never the same after he left. If he’s not on the reboot I’m not interested.

The original cast is awesome, Thomas Gibson is an actor and he’s a very good actor. He treats his team very well. He shows empathy towards his team. Why doesn’t someone video his boss and him and throw it into the script. Seriously, did y’all read about them firing J J and Emily then she brought them back? We don’t hear everything. Criminal Minds is and was a good show. I bought the series because the team is great together and they go to Rossi’s house for get-togethers and let’s not forget Garcia’s home. And they need to steer clear of too much personal stuff. they can’t all be related to criminals or victims. Stick to the crimes and solving them.
I just finished bingeing all 15 seasons so this news is like “yay!” but only of MGG signs on. If he doesn’t, this news will have me like “meh”

I love Criminal Minds, my daughters and granddaughters watch 3 episodes every night before bed. We love the cast, Hodge and Morgan are really good. We are on Season 6. We bought all the Seasons, forget the commercials. Keep up the good work, love you all. Great team!

Is this just going to become a way of shedding expensive cast members? Don’t fire them/cancel their contracts, cancel the whole show and then “revive” it a year later with a trimmed-down cast, propped up by inexpensive “fresh faces?”
Sounds like season 6 all over again, didn’t Erica Messer learn anything from that train wreck. Which was a shame because the character of Seaver had so much potential, in the end it wasnt the actresses fault she was thrown in the deep end.
I would absolutely love to see Criminal Minds come back on, however I am sick to death of having to pay for new streaming services to see the new shows coming on that I want to see, I.e. Discovery+.
True for me too. Every station now seems to want to milk the viewers for new shows and in a time when money is scarce.
Studios need to make money though and with streaming services right now no-one is making money. They all charge way too little and spend way too much on content. Existing services like Netflix can’t pay more, they are actually pushing to pay less with their deals because they already have a negative cashflow of $4bn and only stay going by selling that amount of bonds each year to cover the shortfall. And services struggle to raise prices, they could have charged more initially when people were used to cable prices but they have created an environment where people expect lots of content and paying very little so the only solution for studios is to try and grab their own part of the streaming pie where they can get more for their content than they get from other services. We have to accept that be will pay more for streaming in total be it for lots of individual services or for one service with everything than we wound for cable as everyone on the chain needs to make a profit wnd streaming removes a number of ghe additional revenue streams that subsidised subscription costs do cable
I have wondered the same things.. Even the regular networks are stuck because technology has made it easier to blow off the commercials that support the whole system… or streaming services like CBSAA or Hulu have Ad-Free options for a few dollars more and you can watch there without worrying about FF’ing through ads… Why sports programming is the silver bullet for networks since you can’t really FF the games unless you want to and not get spoiled… Most people watch those live….
Above yes, but don’t care. Let figure it out. They really should consider app-free channels and/or connections. I rarely watch regular tv anymore, because if ads. My husband’s informs me on local & major news n weather.
And my phone apps do the rest. Few tv shows I watch, only ones addicted to.

It is also so sad to see tv & entertainment news programs and sites so focused on promoting any and every fart from streaming services while regular tv struggles.
It is like they kick and punch regular tv and then act surprised while reporting tv is in rough shape.
That is pretty much much what entertainment sites are supposed to do: Report whats going on in the area of entertainment. They are not free PR-agencies for struggling networks.
Agreed and streaming is lousy anyway stopping and buffering. We pay more than enough for cable and what do they do create a new channel and put every new movie on it.

I’d like the idea in keeping Emily Prentiss as the boss, JJ and Reid. Peneloppe Garcia lived the service and if I remember well, Rossi, definitively retired. And add new faces but people who can act.
Could be cool.
I can see Prentiss, JJ & Reid coming back, with Garcia deciding, she’d rather be with the team. And Rossi can come back as a “consultant” for harder (or throwback) cases. But Hotch needs to come back as well. Because…Hotch.
Absolutely! when Hotch appears, Criminal Minds will have a new life. Can not explain, but Hotch gone, lost its energy. He is irreplaceable.

Just said this yesterday on the comment section of article of FBI adding a 3rd show. Give us 10-15 episodes per season. I’ll be happy!
No keep it to 4-8 episodes with new season being a single story. CM could be good but not as good as it could have been by having to be procedural and having to do so many episodes. Less episode, less procedural and you have the makings of an excellent event series

Sounds like they don’t think people will buy it otherwise. I would like to watch something like this, but really don’t want to have to pay for a streaming service to do so. Like Discovery+ taking every good show from all their networks & moving them to steaming.

Clearly the motivation, as with the CSI revival and a 4th NCIS, is the continued strong viewership in reruns on ION,Cable and Streaming.
Again, the difficulty is it’s a co production between CBS and ABC – which was always a headache with the show – Renewals down to the wire, the split with CBS controlling Domestic Syndication and Home Video and ABC handling international…
The only think that could hold up a revival is CBS and ABC not getting their acts together.
But a strong 10-episode story arc might just work – depending who of the old team you bring back. Paget Brewster would HAVE to be on board. :)
Yet NCIS New Orleans is ending with this seasons so cable raitings don’t always help.

It rated and lasted as long as it did because of the chemistry with “THAT CAST”

Show wasn’t the same in Seasons 14/15 with yo many newbees and IMO the “chemistry” was NOT there ! And many of us did NOT watch it !!
