Abby Lee Miller Reality Show Cancelled at Lifetime After Her Racist Dance Moms Remarks Are Revealed
Abby Lee Miller‘s relationship with Lifetime has come to an abrupt end.
The network cancelled its upcoming Abby’s Virtual Dance-Off series Friday after the mother of a Dance Moms dancer posted on social media that Miller, who stars in that series as well, had made racist remarks to her daughter during the filming of Season 8. EW.com first reported the cancellation.
Adriana Smith, whose daughter Kamryn took part in the reality series’ most recent season, mocked Miller for posting a Blackout Tuesday square on Instagram to support the Black Lives Matter movement. “I couldn’t think of a more perfect day to address my experience with Abby Lee Miller,” Smith wrote in a lengthy Instagram post. “A statement from her that sticks in my mind to this day… is ‘I know you grew up in the HOOD with only a box of 8 crayons, but I grew up in the Country Club with a box of 64.'”
Smith also says that Kamryn once overheard someone affiliated with the show saying she was included because “they need a sprinkle of color.”
On Thursday, Miller posted on her Instagram account that “I genuinely understand and deeply regret how my words have effected [sic] and hurt those around me in the past, particularly those in the Black community.” In a response on her own account, Smith wrote, “At this time, I do not accept Abby’s apology because her apology was not sincere. My daughter and I have yet to hear directly from Abby Lee Miller. Moreover, she didn’t even bother to tag me or Kamryn in her post. How else would we know she apologized?”
Abby’s Virtual Dance-Off was slated to premiere in June but will not air at all. In addition, per EW, Miller will not return to Dance Moms if it is renewed for Season 9.

Try looking up two black cops in Louisiana open fire on a truck with a white father and 6 year old boy unarmed killing the boy by shooting him 5 or 6 times. So yes there are incidents of black cops killing white suspects. The numbers are lower due to the more white ratio we have in this country to the ratio of black people. The only reason for this response is to say yes it happens the other way as well. Which is the point of the BLM movement to change police brutality so I’m not discrediting the fact that it happens more to black people just pointing out that it does happen the other way around.

I will admit that I watched every episode of Dance Moms when Nia was on. Actually , in my opinion, Abby was not only racist, she was nasty and disgusting the way she talked to all of the girls and their Moms’ except for Maddie. Maybe it was for show? Nia tried very hard. There were a few times I thought she should have won. I really think the Casting Director needed to make better choices on choosing the dancers as well. I saw racism all over that shoow along with favoritism. Please consider doing another show without Abby but using the same people who worked so hard on that show. Another thought, Air the show with a disclaimer at the beginning or the end that says ” Any derogatory statements made on Social Media by any person related to this show are not in any way agreed upon or acceptable to any other persons related to this show “. Sorry, I am not sure how to word this but something to that effect and air the show for everyone who worked so hard to make the show. Including the Cast and Crew. Anyone watching will head to Social Media and see the real Abby Lee Miller. We would still watch the show and I would hope that you may consider dropping it after this season or maybe using someone else in her place if it is renewed. Thank you so much.

It was so racist that these mothers continued to take their child to this woman! I think mom needs to carry some of the blame due to continuously taking their daughters back to Abby even after racist comments and portrayals of certain things leaning towards racism. They subjected their children to this over and over and over again!
I think this is a discussion that needs to be had and things need to be changed, but at the same time I feel that we are going to far. I mean was the comments uncalled for, yes but at the same time I think this is an over reaction. She apologized for it and that should have been the end of it. Not defending looters isn’t racist, law abiding protesters are filming people that are doing those things and it’s my hope that they are caught and jailed . A protest peaceful or not should not include innocent people or their place of work .

It’s good that people cannot learn from their past mistakes and let them go. I think we should cancel everyone who had made any racist/homophobic/Transphobic/xenophobic you get the picture.
Even if you’ve grown and learned, you should be still cancelled. We should then remove all the artwork the person did in the past too. Because we don’t support them for a mistake in their life. You ever been to jail? Cancelled. Ever done something illegal? Cancelled? Even when you were a kid. Her apology seemed quite trite… but cancel culture is too unforgiving. People make mistakes. Its part of being human and those pointing fingers have also made their share of mistakes. Anyone who puts themselves up on a pedestal and says they haven’t said something just as hurtful, is lying to themselves.
I have never been a fan and don’t see that changing, but at some point forgiveness must come into play or we are just trading hate for hate of a different flavor.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, folks. This cancellation is about 8 years too late. This little girl was only there for a couple of weeks. Think about how Camryn from season 7 was treated. Think about how Nia was treated for seven seasons, and probably even before that. Kudos to Adriana for seizing the moment and FINALLY getting this woman off our screens and knocked off her high horse. Her “apology” was quite obviously fake and only for PR, probably not even written by her, and almost certainly caused by being caught and exposed, not by genuine remorse. She has never apologized for her horrible treatment of the other girls either. She continues to blame everyone around her for her problems and get angry instead of self-reflecting and being gracious and remorseful. This has been a long time coming and very badly needed for a LONG long time. Shame on Lifetime for maintaining their association with her when they were aware of these problems for years, also.

Lifetime should have dropped her when she went to jail. Any parent that would take their child to her dance school after seeing how she treated the girls & after a felony conviction is gross. Season 8 of Dance Moms premiered on June 4, 2019 with 2 episodes: “Abby Lee Release Special” and “Abby’s Big Comeback – Mommy Dearest Part 2.” The final episode of Season 8 was shown on September 10, 2019 – “Reunion: Kids Tell All.”
And those moms continue to pay her to teach their kids. That tells me that Abby knows what she is doing. You don’t like her, take kids out of her class. BOOM, PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!!!

Sarah Glossman who was a young white student died by the hands of a cop just recently, now did she get a second chance. The biggest misconception is that all black people grew up in a “hood” when it it so far from factual. I had 120 crayons growing up in Montgomery County Maryland. No one wants to dialogue anymore to dismantle these false stereotypes. My fellow Americans had me thinking Africans were in huts in grass skirts but the public transportation is a Mercedes. Picture that.

Abby has been a horrible person for years and that was her appeal. I am ashamed that I watched the show just because of the controversy. It was the train wreck that I couldn’t look away. She spoke to those little girls horribly as well as the parents. She said things that never should be said to anyone. And I am sad that comments are rewriting history. She said these things on camera and I am sure she said worse off camera to impressionable children. And just because she lost her business and had cancer doesn’t mean she deserves to have a platform to spew more hatred. I am glad Lifetime cut ties with her.
