HBO Delays A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Premiere — Find Out When The Game Of Thrones Prequel Will Get Underway

Holding out for a hero? We've got some bad news: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' arrival will be delayed.

Though the Game of Thrones prequel had been slated to premiere at some point this year, it now has been moved to sometime in 2026, our sister site Variety reports.

To be fair: HBO hadn't announced an official premiere date for the series based on George R.R. Martin's Dunk and Egg novellas. The scheduling change came to light Wednesday, per Variety, when the audience at Warner Bros. Discovery's upfront presentation in New York City watched a trailer for the series. The year 2026 appeared on screen, with HBO content chairman and CEO Casey Bloys telling the crowd that the show would air in "winter" of the coming year.

Per the official logline, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is "set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory" and "great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends."

Duncan (aka "Dunk") will be played by Bad Sisters' Peter Claffey; and his bald, young squire, Egg, wil be played by Dexter Sol Ansell (ITV's Emmerdale).

The prequel was formally announced in April 2023. The series will be written and executive-produced by Martin and Ira Parker. Ryan Condal, who currently serves as House of the Dragon's showrunner, Owen Harris, Sarah Bradshaw and Vince Gerardis also will be EPs.
