GUTEN TAG, SHELDON!

In the upcoming Season 6 finale, 13-year-old Sheldon and his mother Mary head to Germany while the rest of the Coopers brave a tornado barreling toward Medford. If that storyline sounds familiar, that’s because Big Bang alluded to it in a 2008 episode. In Season 1’s “The Pancake Batter Anomaly,” Sheldon told Penny that Mary accompanied him while he was a visiting professor at the Heidelberg Institute — only then, Sheldon said he was 15.
“My mom had to fly back to Texas to help my dad because the house slipped off cinderblocks again,” he said. “It was tornado season, and it was an aluminum house.”
I don’t watch Young Sheldon anymore.
1) The show was always about a young squeaky voiced precocious little boy. Iain has grown up and changed too much to be “cute”. He’s a bit too mature now.
2) I realize that they set perimeters with things said on The Big Bang Theory. But I watch comedies to laugh and feel good. I hate when they start adding real life problems to my comedy show. And love affair’s and death are too much real life for me.
For me this show is already over!
This is the Simpsons. Can’t stay the same age for 30 years..
I Swear if y’all actually do kill off George then I’m done
Which is why they will wait to the end, or not even show it. Leave it in a “epilogue” flash forward or something, Or at the very last minute, for the finale. The family, at the funeral, and they start to splinter. Sheldon off on his own pursuits. Georgie is helping out at home, and it probably does in his marriage. And could be why he and his first wife did not work out (whoever it might be).
He proposes to his baby mama in the latest episode, so I’m sure its here
I’m with you, Angel! George is the best part of the show
I agree! Love the George character.
George and MeMaw are the best in the show.
They have to kill of George. He passed of a heart attack when Sheldon is 13.
No he died when Sheldon was 14
Me, too! George dying would just be too much!
Is it written in cement somewhere we don’t know about that the show has to follow every little thing that Sheldon said in The BBT??
I hope NOT. George’s death would ruin the show, at least for me.
No two ways about it. But there’s no rule that says they have to follow the TBBT arc. The shows don’t match, IMHO – YS is a great show IF they let it breathe. C’mon back, writers!
George or Georgie?d
I’m so tired of articles saying something is “canon” especially when it’s another show and the author think it’s in stone that the show writers can’t change their minds. Of course they can!
When it’s a designed as a sequel. And it is canon that eventually Sheldon ends up in Calfornia. Or his father’s death was mentioned right up to the end of BBT. It is a different show. But certain things do have to happen. They might happen in slightly different ways, because Sheldon was a kid. But certain things do have to happen. It’s not a completely separate show, devoid of any connection to Big Bang Theory. It’s Sheldon’s childhood. And he mentioned many things. Some have changed. But certain things have to happen.
I watched both shows, each and every episode. So 12 plus 7 is 19 seasons. That’s enough for any character for me.
Lorne, totally agree with you, all of this is made up fiction in the first place, so why some people think it is necessary to be “canon” escapes me. I would propose a twist to George’s character as he passes the time he is supposed to die, where HE regularly breaks the fourth wall, looks at the camera from time to time and says something witty like “never felt better”, or “how glad he is to have the love and support of so many”, etc. essentially as a poke to those canon fanatics who would have him die. I think it would bring an interesting and fresh angle to shows that otherwise are doomed because of some misguided desire to make one end of a long story agree with the other end. Viva George!
I totally agree with you!!
“It was tornado season, and it was an aluminum house.”
This right here proves that not everything Sheldon said on TBBT is 100% accurate. They definitely don’t live in an aluminum house.
But Germany and the tornado are the more important part of the sentence LOL. They can play around with the little details, but the big ones…
There’s a possibility of aluminum siding, which we had on our house in the 70s, but the cinder blocks would be hard one to account for.
I think they are working on the assumption next year is the end. Because you only stop time and the storyline so much given the obvious growth spurt for Iain and the actress who plays Missy. And we know that history can be only tampered with so much. A big part of who Sheldon is, is because of the loss of his father. Could be why he was set back from his behavior in his youth to who he was when he meets Leonard and then Penny, and others. And they then can focus on the new show…So much of the storyline seems geared to it ending next season.
We like the show SO MUCH MORE when Sheldon isn’t featured. All of the other characters are more interesting and real life issues and comedy work well together. I don’t think the show has to follow everything implied in the Big Bang Theory. Sheldon is recollecting what happened and rarely does anybody remember everything exactly. Would love an episode narrated by Missy or Georgie to get a different view on how things went down. Also, wouldn’t mind a spin-off with them.
yes I agree! Although I do love the character Sheldon, I liked him so much more when he was little. Seeing what is happening from one of the other characters viewpoint would be a great change!
I’d bet a sizeable amount of money that the new MAX series is The Coopers (aka Young Sheldon – Sheldon). And I agree, Sheldon Is by far the most annoying part of the show now. Hopefully the new show isn’t about him in college.
Just don’t lose sight of what an amazing actor young Iain is! His rendition of what a teenage Sheldon would be like is spot on!
100% agree, Jennifer!
I agree100%
I agree as well.
Thank you, Jennifer for your comment. I was going to say basically the same thing until I saw your comment. You hit the nail right on the head. How is it that the title character is the least likeable on the show! His siblings are better, his parents are better, the recurring characters are better, and finally, the great Annie Potts steals the show!
Agreed! Annie Potts is the heart of the comedy. George is great but, what about a spin off centered around Connie and her many escapades.
I agree about Sheldon!! The show is Much better when they focus on Memaw or Georgie & Mandy or Mary & pastor Rob!!
It really should end after next season. This has been a brilliantly written and produced show, easily exceeding the original Big Bang Theory in quality.
While George’s death will be sad, we all know that it happens and the way this fantastic cast will portray it is something I look very forward to experiencing.
I will miss the show but will be happy that it does not outlive its usefulness as so many sitcoms do (do you hear me, The Goldbergs???)
Absolutely!
sheldon could have said his Father was dead to him since His Mother and Father got a divorce when Sheldon was 14. Sheldon was always a Mamas Boy. So Big George is Alive not Dead
His parents never divorced. His dad dies.
The Coopers is very likely to get green lit at some point. Drop George, Sheldon, and all the science people (Sturgis, Linkletter, ect..) and just focus on the remaining family members and their immediate friends/partners. Georgie will be the lead, the show will be an ensemble, and everyone will continue watching who watched the original. Meanwhile a TBBT sequel focusing on the next generation might be a decent idea. Sadly enough time hasn’t passed where the gang could be parents of adults. Teens seems unlikely, so either old age makeup or some other idea.
It might be possible. It seems like Old Sheldon is the parent of teens and is narrating from sometime in the mid 2030’s. I hope we find out in the finale.
It’s a fun show. Don’t kill off George the son.to many shows r doing that. Let it go on.
I believe ADULT SHELDON has hysterical historical delusions to his childhood memories.
His perspective is skewed by emotional trauma. As a result, TBBT Sheldon recounts his childhood stories with an exaggerated and even a vindictive ficticious bias.
In TBBT Sheldon is a narcissist. Much easier to call his Dad a villain, than to analyze his (Sheldon’s) own character defects..
Agreed. I’ve been saying for years that TBBT Sheldon is an unreliable narrator/life event recounter due to numerous traumatic events from his childhood.
I think it is an interesting take since the narration happens AFTER sheldon has kids. I think he is looking back on his childhood with a different pair of glasses on and seeing things he either didn’t see or didn’t understand before. Some of my favorite finishing lines in the episodes are when he recounts things like, “I always thought my dad was just a bully”, but then after what happened and reliving it, he says, “but inrealize now he did his best”. I just think maybe having kids or getting married made him rethink his childhood, and that is what is going on in young sheldon.
True, but you don’t forget how old you were when your parent died. That is a sad milestone in almost everyone’s life.
But remember he has an idetic memory. He might exagerate how horrible it was from his perspective. But he would remember the casket. The suit George was wearing. How many people were there. Not saying the show couldn’t change that. But try to remember Sheldon on the first season of TBBT. And how closed off emotionally he was. Maybe his dad dying is why he went back into his shell.
George and Georgie have always been my favorite characters on this show. If they feel like they have to kill George off, do it like they did on the Wonder Years. Voice over from Kevin saying “Dad died a year later from a heart attack” or something to that effect. Then we won’t have to actually see George passing away. Sheldon also used to talk about George drinking all the time, and that has never come to pass either.
No matter what the spinoff is about, it should remain on CBS without fail! Why lose the audience it has had since its inception with “TBBT”? That would be insane!!
Some reasons…
They have more creative freedom on streaming.
Streaming is the way to go these days as network television is nearing it’s end of having scripted programming with the exception of “reality” and “game shows”.
I agree, plus the whole connection of Star Trek and CBS, and SCIFI etc, Lucille Ball fighting to get Star Trek TOS and CBS having TBBT seems natural. It is sad George Dies and he does talk about it on TBBT. On the other hand, there are different ways to handle it. There can be a cal-tech version of the story or A summer vacation version. Sheldon comes home for summer and they can have varying situations,
I think all these big milestones will be in the last three episodes. Georgie’s wedding, George dies, and then in the finale Sheldon moves to Pasadena and in the last scene walks into The Apartment as Iain and then it fades to Jim as he’s telling the story to his son Leonard.
I really like that plan. Too bad they won’t do anything like it.
That makes perfect sense.
I have been thinking that they could replace the prequel with a sequel. The Cooper family of Sheldon and Aimie, and their child Leonard. Jim Parsons is always mentioning them in his narrating. Which I think could be setting the stage.
I never followed BBT or got into it. I LOVE Young Sheldon. All I can say is I hope it doesn’t end soon. One of my favorite shows!
We love Sheldon, it is the best show ever, producer and director as well as writers are sheer genius not seen since Dallas. Keep Sheldon and excellent cast that keeps this show new and relatable.
I think the whole notion that everything adult Sheldon said in TBBT is “canon” is ridiculous. The character has a particular (peculiar?) view of the world. He doesn’t see or remember things like the rest of us. He is the ultimate “unreliable narrator” of his own life.
I wouldn’t tie the writers of YS to any particular set of facts.
At this point, the only character I truly care about is Meemaw because Annie Potts is a national treasure. Mary, Brenda and Pastor Rob are also fun & interesting.
I stopped watching TBBT when it became the Sheldon Cooper show. It was tedious and repetitive. But I love YS – until Jim Parsons breaks in with unnecessary narration.
This is why getting a life is so important. The incessant obsessing over canon and whether a fictional television character’s impending death is going to occur or not is ridiculous.
Couldn’t have said it better myself!
This is the best cast show on TV.
Each character is so unique in their own comic
Way.
Please don’t let George DIE . I love George because Mary is so unkind to him-really mean.
She is very good being who she is.
Please continue on- I am counting on it
Sheldon himself quit being funny more than a year ago. Only the supporting characters are still funny. So, the namesake is no longer funny on this “comedy” show. Hello obvious!
On the episode when the baby was born, Sheldon was so oblivious to everyone else’s issues and dilemmas, because he was a spoiled petulant brat. Being “on the spectrum” is no excuse. He should have been taught about priorities and consideration of others, especially in emergency situations. If I was his parent, I would have worked that into the raising of him. More than anything, I wanted to see his father slap his selfish face in the hospital waiting room when he went on about his database. Sheldon did not deserve any consideration of his own feelings… he stepped over the line. It is past time to kill this “comedy” show. Don’t subject us to another season of Sheldon.
Then you must not have watched Big Bang Theory because this is very much who Sheldon is when he is even older. He can be very selfish, and only thinking of himself. To be anything else at this point, given who he grows up to be on BBT would be totally against that his is a sequel and not a completely different show.
meant, this is a pre-quel.
Young Sheldon used to be fun, but it’s slipped from comedy into soap opera. Sheldon’s character has also devolved. As a precocious child still naive in the ways of the world, he was relatable and even lovable. Now he’s just an obnoxious teen, and is rapidly becoming the sort of self-centered adult that his friends tolerated, but constantly put down, in TBBT.
Sheldon’s siblings are now far more interesting. But the flirtations and bickerings of Sheldon’s parents are not very believable–and since we know from TBBT how it ends, it’s becoming tedious.
Please just kill off George and end this show before Iain Armitage hits the age Jim Parsons was when TBBT debuted.
I do not like that George is going to die. He makes the show for me. I come to see him in a different light than how Sheldon describe him in TBBT. Even I saw my parents differently. Please don’t have George die. This is comedy. He is wonderful in his role. He has always been good to Mary. She crushes his character. Let him live. No longer desire to watch this show without him.
He has NOT always been good to Mary. How is nearly having an affair (and actually might have. who knows what was really going on in that chicken coop)? I personally can’t wait to see him die. He’s a horrible husband and even worse father.
I say it has to end maybe the last episode could be a narrative of what happened when Sheldon moves to California and where everyone ended up to prolong this show to long risks the chance it will jump the shark send it off right I just hate to lose the actors each one has their own personality I even think Missy could headline her own show she never really had a chance to show her stuff and I think she’s very talented.
Love this show, the solution is to disconnect it from Big Bang so it can continue. It’s not hard, here’s one suggestion at some point have Sheldon say, well my father died, BUT if he had not maybe this is how things would have gone. Then you can take it all in a new direction and disregard what was said on the Big Bang.
I hate to see young Sheldon end, it’s my #1, with 30 Rock being #2!
I love all the characters and will miss the time era it is set in.
Hope to see these actors in top quality roles more!!
I would love to watch the coopers grow up…everything doesn’t need to be about sheldon. I have fallen in love with the family.
Let the adventures continue.
Apparently in TBBT. Sheldon was unaware of the cooper’s hardships. So clue us in.
