Virgin River Season 4 Breakdown: 10 Troubling Twists Revealed In Trailer
Virgin River fans, your wait is almost over. The Netflix drama returns for its 12-episode fourth season on Wednesday, July 20 — and thanks to the trailer, which finally dropped yesterday, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect from Mel, Jack and the rest of the town's colorful characters.
Between the town's hot new doctor (with eyes for Mel?), Hope's difficult road to recovery, Doc's mysterious grandson and Jack's apparent drinking problem, there's no shortage of drama to come. And wait... What's this about Mark's mom trying to gain custody of Mel's embryos?!
Read on for 10 teases from the Season 4 trailer, then drop a comment with your hopes for Virgin River's finest below.
Who's the Daddy? Who Cares!
Though the couple is given the option of taking a paternity test to determine whether Jack or Mark is the father of Mel's baby, one party member isn't in any rush for the results.
"I can't do that right now," Jack says of taking the test. "If we find out that Mark's the father, it could change how I feel about our baby."
Hope for Hope
Hope doesn't utter a word in the trailer (if you can believe it!), but we do get this quick shot of Doc taking very good care of his wife.
Still suffering from neurological damage as a result of her accident, Hope certainly has a rough road ahead of her — but we're just glad to have Annette O'Toole back full-time this season.
What's Up, New Doc?
The trailer also introduces Mark Ghanimé as Cameron, Virgin River's "very attractive" (Lydie's words!) new doctor.
But it's what Muriel tells Jack that has us worried: "It's about time you got a bit of competition there, mister."
Daddy Issues
Now that Jack is about to become a dad (both via his twins with Charmaine and his potential baby with Mel), it stands to reason that he should get some advice from his own father. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that's about to happen anytime soon.
"My job was to make sure you didn't ruin your life," Jack father tells him in the trailer. (And it doesn't sound like he believes he succeeded in that mission.)
Further confirmation of their rocky relationship comes when Jack asks Mel, "If I can't have a relationship with my own father, what kind of dad am I going to be?"
Liquid Discouraged
With everything going on in Jack's life, you can't blame the guy for knocking a few back to relax. Then again...
"Why are you drinking?" Mel asks Jack in the trailer, to which he replies, "I honestly didn't think having one or two drinks was a problem. If it bothers you that much, I'll stop drinking."
"I don't want you to do this for me," she adds. "I want you to do this for you."
Ricky and Lizzie...
Despite Ricky and Lizzie breaking up last season, the sparks between the exes remain evident, even in the brief glimpse we get of them in this trailer. The question is: Will Lizzie be able to forgive him for keeping his Marine enlistment a secret from her, or is this young love D.O.A.?
...or Denny and Lizzie?
Then again, who needs Ricky when Lizzie has Doc's estranged grandson (played by new series regular Kai Bradbury) with whom to enjoy the occasional pedal boat ride.
#FreeBrady
"Brady didn't shoot me!" Jack declares in the trailer. So, who did? The statement is accompanied by security footage of Vince, but that feels a little too easy.
Whose Embryos Are They Anyway?
As if Mel needed any more drama in her pregnancy, along comes her sister-in-law Stacey, who reveals that Mark's mother has hired a lawyer to gain custody of Mel and Mark's frozen embryos. So, who wants to tell her that they've already been used?
A Couple in Crisis
Between the lingering paternity mystery, the unanswered proposal and now Jack's apparent drinking problem, let's face it — Mel and Jack's relationship is a house of cards at this point. And while we don't think Virgin River would ever permanently split up its main couple, it's never great when someone tells their partner that they "need some space" to clear their head.
The fact that Doc appears to intervene, telling Mel not to "give up" on Jack, is doing nothing to quell our fears.
