Virgin River: Here's Everything We Know About Season 3 (So Far)

From new neighbors and old flames to a life-or-death whodunnit, there's plenty of drama on the horizon when(ever) Virgin River returns to Netflix for Season 3.

Fortunately, thanks to TVLine's interview with showrunner Sue Tenney — plus a few helpful tidbits supplied by Netflix — we already know a few of the major developments in store for the show's titular town.

Scroll down to find out everything we know about the romantic drama's upcoming third season, including the introductions of several new characters, then drop a comment with your hopes for Season 3 below.

WHEN DOES SEASON 3 PREMIERE?

An exact date has not yet been announced, but Netflix did confirm that Season 3 will once again consist of 10 hour-long episodes.

WHICH CHARACTERS ARE BACK?

All of Virgin River's key players are confirmed to return in Season 3, including Mel (Alexandra Breckinridge), Jack (Martin Henderson), Doc (Tim Matheson), Hope (Annette O'Toole), Preacher (Colin Lawrence), Brady (Benjamin Hollingsworth), Ricky (Grayson Gurnsey), Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley), Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale), Joey (Jenny Cooper), Christopher (Chase Petriw), Mike (Marco Grazzini). Netflix adds that "more of your favorite Virgin River locals" will also appear.

Another person you may not have expected to see back is Daniel Gillies, who will continue to appear in flashbacks as Mel's late husband Mark.

WHO SHOT JACK?

That's going to be the question on everyone's mind when Virgin River returns, according to showrunner Sue Tenney, who tells TVLine that this mystery has the potential to play out "over several seasons."

"I always joke that it's most likely Charmaine," Henderson (Jack) tells us. "It does pop into your mind!"

Heck, even Hammersley (Charmaine) is down with that theory, telling us, "It's possible!"

Regardless of who pulled the trigger, though, Tenney says we can expect a "larger time jump than we had between Seasons 1 and 2," giving Jack some time to recover.

SISTER ACT

And who better to help nurse Jack back to health than is own flesh and blood?

Zibby Allen (The Flash, Grey's Anatomy) is joining Virgin River as a new series regular in Season 3, playing Jack's sister Brie. According to Netflix, "Brie is a lawyer who is smart, hard-charging, ballsy and a whole lot of fun.
"

MOTHER'S LITTLE HELPER

And Jack isn't the only character on Virgin River gaining a new family member in Season 3.

Stacey Farber (Saving Hope, Degrassi: The Next Generation) will recur as Lilly's daughter Tara Anderson. According to Netflix, "we finally meet [Tara] this season since she is helping [Lilly] with Baby Chloe while her three other siblings are living away from home."

WHAT'S UP (WITH) DOC?

Doc was about to share some troubling medical news with Hope before he was rudely interrupted by a surprise engagement party. And if you're worried about the future of Virgin River's local physician, well, you're right to be.

Tenney tells TVLine that Doc's medical situation is "a complication that will challenge him and will challenge his relationship with Hope. He's going to rise to the challenge, but it is a real complication for him, especially for him practicing medicine going forward. Will he be able to continue to do that? The clinic and town are his life, so we will seriously explore that."

YOUNG LOVE

Jack and Mel may be the hottest couple in Virgin River, but they're not the only couple.

The finale of Season 2 set up a Romeo and Juliet-style dynamic between Ricky and Lizzie, and their story is far from over.

"The characters are great together — polar opposites," Tenney tells TVLine. "As we dive into Lizzie's past and past relationships, it becomes very clear why someone like Ricky would be so attractive to her. ... Ricky has a fantastic arc in the books that I plan to explore. We get into a little bit of it in Season 2 but we'll definitely explore it more in further seasons."
