First Good Doctor Season 5 Promo Teases Shaun And Lea's Wedding — Plus, First Engagement Party Photos

The Good Doctor is cordially inviting you to the wedding event of the season — and TVLine has your exclusive first look.

The first Season 5 promo, which you can watch above, focuses primarily on Shaun and Lea's impending nuptials. Prior to the ceremony, we see Dr. Murphy deep in surgery with Lim and Park... and deep in conversation about the big day. The chief warns Shaun that "planning a wedding is a big undertaking," but the resident isn't fazed. "All that matters to me is marrying Lea," he says.

His bride-to-be, however, is clearly stressed out, and appears to be woken up in the middle of the night due to a nightmare. What follows is a glimpse of Shaun and Lea at the altar... and a potential case of cold feet.

In the Sept. 27 premiere, titled "New Beginnings," Shaun and Lea's upcoming engagement party "has everyone in a festive mood after their return from Guatemala," according to the official synopsis. "Meanwhile, a young single mother learns her son may have contracted his cancer from a surprising source, and Mateo (new series regular Osvaldo Benavides) finds out if his previous issues in America will be resolved."

In addition, TVLine can exclusively reveal the first photos from the Season 5 opener, as Shaun and Lea gather with their closest friends to celebrate their engagement. Check out the images below, each accompanied by a teaser from executive producer David Shore...

"Lea is in charge of planning [the party]," Shore tells TVLine. "Shaun doesn't care. As long as he is getting married, he's happy!" Lea, on the other hand, "wants everything to be perfect, and that is going to be a lot of the discussion: What makes something perfect? And what goes into the planning of these sorts of things?"

It's no surprise that Dr. Glassman is the first to toast the bride and groom-to-be. After all, he's been there for Shaun every step of the way. But Shaun's mentor is newly single, and he's struggling this year. "Debbie is gone from his life and he is dealing with that," Shore says. "He is trying to cope and he is trying to find his place in a world in which he is not sure how needed he is anymore — a world in which he has made a lot of mistakes."

Lim also raises a glass to her brightest surgeon and his future bride. As for the chief of surgery's storyline, Shore reminds us that Lim is coming out of a very difficult year. "It's not like she is cured [of her post-traumatic stress]," he says. "But she is on her way back to a better place."

Mateo's legal troubles will "cast a shadow" over his employment at St. Bonaventure. "In terms of his training, he is a fairly senior doctor," Shore explains. "But because of his past, because of his history, he is going to have to learn to swallow his pride a little bit."

The wedding scene in the above promo isn't necessarily from the premiere. "We are working towards it," Shore teases. "I can't say [exactly] when it will happen, but we are working towards it."
