SINISTER SPEEDSTERS. ASSEMBLE!

Picking up where “A New World, Part 3” left off — with Eddie succumbing to the power of the blue crystal, “inside” of which he saw Godspeed, Zoom, Savitar and Reverse-Flash — “Part 4” opened with the quartet of past sinister speedsters convening at the Negative Speed Force version of the West home. Friendly, verbal fire was exchanged — lotsa clumsy, exposition-y smack-talking, plus Eobard winningly mocking Hunter Zolomon/Zoom for stealing his shtick as the “friend of Team Flash turned foe.” Eddie then appeared, eliciting taunts from his descendant Eobard for being “the dumbest branch on the family tree.” Until….
It would have been nice to see more flashbacks of the last 9 years, and have a little more nostalgia for those of us who have stuck with the show for almost a decade.
.
Congrats to the cast and crew. I wish them well and hope to see them in new shows soon.
Just glad it’s over. They had so much potential this season and screwed the pooch. Good riddance
There was no way a single speedster like Barry was gonna be able to take down all of the reinforces that Cobalt Blue brought with himself. Especially when the Speed Force was that weakened as we were told in previous episodes, so Eddie using them in the end as battery to further his schemes seemed to be his overall endgame.
Can’t believe this show is over. What a wild and fun run it was. Thank you to all that made it!
Hopefully a Justice League ensemble revival show can be announced and launched one day in Max as part of the DC Elseworlds label. With Grant, Melissa, Tyler, Javicia, Caity, David and Cress reprising their roles and the supporting cast being all of the other characters from their respective shows of the Arrowverse.
Thank you Flash!
That’d be nice- it’d be a great way to keep the Arrowverse alive. Until then I really hope Justice U. finds a home -that’d be another great way to continue the Arrowverse….
When Barry created new speedsters at the end, it felt like the finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer when new slayers were created.
I thought the exact same thing!
The only thing that got me was Caitlin coming back. The rest was so disappointing.
Ditto. This exactly.
Same. It was unexpected and felt a little like justice for how they all just moved on from her dying.
Agree with all here.
I only have oneish complaint about the show…the whole series not just the final. Grodd we had ..Ape City and lots and lots of apes we had. King Shark we had. HOWEVER….WHERE WAS FASTBACK????? WHERE WAS THE TERRIFIC WHATZIT??.??
The resolution with Eddie and the Negative Speed Force made little to sense. The Cobalt Blue story should’ve been done through this entire last season. It was all rushed. Eddie deserved a happier ending – with a new love and life of his own.
Hard to do an ending when all the character are still alive. Unlike Arrow where Oliver died. Still at lest this give the change of a T.V movie down the road.
Over all this was not a good season. I got fed up a long way back with evil speeder’s (Arrow also suffered with evil archers all the time) So as a final story arc it was disappointing, but was also expected so not really showing us anything new or unexpected, which just added to the disappointment.
Despite this it is sad to see the Arrow verse go. With no new show within that pocket universe to replace it.
I would give this last episode a B-
Season over all a C.
This was a terrible finale, with a terrible last season (only ep. 9 and 10 were good) and I’m glad I can finally say goodbye to it and goodbye to The CW.
Love you Grant and OG cast. Good luck in your futures.
I must say, I don’t always understand what’s going on on this show. However, I stuck with it because of the cast especially Grant Gustin who I think is a fantastic actor & Tom Cavanaugh. Love both of them! But the good cast – especially the original cast – really kept this show going. Looking forward to seeing what they do next. Congratulations on a good run!!
I’m glad they brought Caitlin back, but what a colossal waste of her character, this year. I’m never going to understand that one.
I remember downloading the leaked pilot so many years ago and watching it several times before the show actually began. It was so good back then. Even with fewer episodes and chances to revisit the past and people briefly returning, they couldn’t get back to that quality. But Caitlin coming back and Nora finally being born (with older Nora present) were some enjoyable moments.
The Arrowverse had a messy fandom, but I really had some good times throughout the years because of it. Truly the end of an era.
Looks terrible, glad I didn’t waste 9 years watching this.
If you didn’t watch it, why are you here?
If you didn’t watch no one cares about your opinion.
Yeah, I was one who thought Joe and Cecile were already married. I really wanted more flashbacks to earlier seasons.
I thought so as well. Probably was just sloppy writing that it never happened.
Caitlin should have been written out or the show when Cisco left. She, Frost, Khione and Cecile were the absolute worst parts of the show since season 7 and got way too much screen time at the detriment of the Flash
They had to give those characters more screen time because they fired Elongated Man for something stupid he tweeted 7 years prior to ever working on the show. The inability to forgive a person for something stupid they did when they were a young 20- something caused the show to shift away from their planned Elongated Man/Sue Dearborn plots and forced the annoying minor characters on us and brought us the terrible Mark plot who inexplicably went from being a bartender to a super genius.
I agree that he showed remorse and there should have been some forgiveness. That said, I also think they focused on the other characters because they stopped knowing what to do with Barry without feeling too repetitive. Like, he was able to stop that big bad doing this and that, so how is he not going to be able to handle this other guy? So they put in some new people with inexperience.
I think behind closed Doors, most people forgave Hartley Sawyer for what he said BUT The CW is a public business and TV network and it looks extremely bad if your employing Someone who Said the things he said. Same thing with alot of Actors/Actresses have gone through the past 10 years. They previously said something Bad or in poor taste and Got cancelled and shamed publicly for it. Elongated Man was probably the Best character on the Show other then Barry, Cisco and Harry Wells but unfortunately he said what he said.
I’ll miss you Barry and Iris; grant and Candice you’ve done incredible work. It’s a shame this show didn’t respect your immense talents or your characters. Best of luck in the future
Spectacular finale! Appreciate all the recaps, Matt, for the past 9 years. I always read them before the show aired on the west coast, and frankly, this senior brain needed them to try to understand what was going on half the time. Lol. Flash had a good run, and ended at the right time. (As a bonus, no more reading insufferable comments from Flash-haters! You can all ‘get a life’ now. Ha!) Congrats to the whole cast and crew of a very entertaining show.
Couldn’t agree more. Haters just don’t appreciate what a great run the whole Arrowverse has been. All shows have ups and downs but I grew up dreaming of having shows like this and for ten years I got to enjoy a wonderful world of superhero shows with some of my favorite characters. Too many complainers today and they should all get a life!
I’m genuinely happy that you Shatners enjoyed the show so much. But that doesn’t mean people who were disappointed by the writing the last several years need to “get a life.”
I told ya’ll Chester still had Meta qualities even if he didn’t use his powers. Vibe/Cisco was the one that used the cure and isn’t meta anymore; Chester was just in the machine stabilizing.

Vindication aside, I feel like it was a decent Flash finale and a poor Arrowverse finale. Decent and not great Flash finale because while there were many nice touches wrapping things up (and I could have sworn Joe & Cecile were already engaged), the Flash not fighting a villain bit felt completely repetitive. They’ve done that story before, and Eddie changing his mind so quickly seemed forced. Caitlyn coming back was nice though.
——-
It’s unfair pressure for The Flash to have to wrap up other storylines, perhaps, but we couldn’t have had some well-wishes on the new baby from some familiar faces? Maybe Sara & Ava in a way that let us know the Legends were okay even if we didn’t see them all? And what is the fate of future William??? Sigh….
I believe they mentioned future William a few episodes back, when Oliver returned.
No, they mentioned that current William is in college. 2040 William got kidnapped at the end of the Canaries planted pilot.
Eddie changing his mind was SO forced. Especially when Barry and Iris said basically the same things to Eddie in the previous episode. All it took to take down the big bad was to repeat himself more clearly and all was good. That was so lame.
This was such a waste of a final season! The writers were horrible and just ruined the season 9.
I will miss them using Portland for all the aerial shots of “Central City” (as well as all of the maps), but the now itself–not so much.
This was a really disappointing final season. (Does everyone who’s a friend of Barry’s automatically gain super-powers?)
It was a mostly good finale. The “science” on this show has never made any sense. I’m glad they brought Caitlyn back because the character certainly deserved better. I was hoping that Khione would bring Frost back, too. Her powers seemed endless. I had no idea that Joe & Cecile weren’t already married. I also don’t get how she suddenly became so powerful. She started out just being able to sense people’s feelings. Baby Nora was adorable, but why was Iris wearing heavy makeup while giving birth??
I was like, “Why does Iris have on those nails?? She’s about to handle a baby!”
At 19 years old I gave birth to my oldest. I woke up at 3 in the morning in labor. I proceeded to take a shower and put on full makeup. By the time she was born at 4:42 in the afternoon there was nothing left. So some people do wear it. How it still looked great is always the question when it comes to TV shows. BTW with my second I did NOT do makeup.
It seemed like the Big Bad Boss Battle was a little to easy and quick, considering the build up over the season. I liked the whole happy ending vibe, too many shows seem to feel the need for a sharp left into tragedy for a series finale. All in all, an OK ending that didn’t leave a lot on the table but not the best series finale I’ve seen.
Glad the Chester, Allegra and Cecile show is over.
I used to like Cecile but when everyone gets more screen time that the OG’s and THE FLASH it was painful.
Some great moments, but overall a disappointing and flat finale.
Not even a mention of Cisco? I understand the actor was not available to film an appearance but surely he could have been mentioned. Why couldn’t Caitlin have been talking to Cisco on the phone instead of her mother. There should also been a mention of Ralph. He was there for 3 years.
The last version of Team Flash was horrible and I don’t believe that they would be able to take down all the speedsters that gave Barry so much trouble so quickly. Though also hard to believe, it would have been more satisfying to have OG Team Flash to take down the speedsters .
To have Iris be about to give birth the entire last 4 episodes did the character no favors. She had nothing much to do the entire time. She should have been much more involved in the Eddie story as she was what he thought was stolen from him.
That should say Iris’s love is what Eddie thought was stolen from him.
Right? So he couldn’t be there for the big group scene. Have him send a video message!
I loved the flashbacks and bringing back some of the old favorites – like Wells, but very disappointed that there was no Cisco!!
