Buck and Tommy, 9-1-1

2024 was a year of self-discovery for Buck, one that wouldn't have been possible without Tommy by his side. And even though they've gone their separate ways, we relished every step of their journey together, from their breathless first kiss to their hilariously awkward first date. Tommy may not see himself as Buck's last love, but we're pretty sure he's a firefighter, not a psychic, so let's just see how this all plays out. (9-1-1 fans waited seven years for Buck to come out. We're nothing if not patient.) — Andy Swift

Janine and Gregory, Abbott Elementary

The teachers took their relationship to the next level this year, finally acting on their feelings by sharing an extremely hot kiss in the Season 3 finale after denying themselves for far too long. Then when Season 4 picked up, Janine and Gregory made the leap to full-on dating, sharing their first Christmas together and dressing up in a dorky couple's costume for Halloween that only cemented how meant to be they are. — Vlada Gelman

Agatha and Rio, Agatha All Along

There are complicated relationships, and then there are "falling in love with Death incarnate" levels of complicated. At first, we thought Agatha and Rio's love was just garden-variety toxic — the sort of twisted, isn't-it-hot-that-we-want-each-other-dead dynamic to which Agatha would be understandably drawn. But their relationship was ultimately much deeper, and more bittersweet, tasked as Rio was with eventually claiming Agatha's life after taking Agatha's young son away years prior. Yeah, it's the kind of stuff you can't solve in couples therapy — but at least we were treated to some rare LGBTQ+ representation in the Marvel world. — Rebecca Iannucci

Spencer and Olivia, All American

It's been a long, sometimes-painful journey for #Spelivia 'shippers, but the payoff was huge in Season 6 of the CW drama. With Spencer getting drafted to the NFL and winning the Super Bowl in his rookie year, and Olivia finding success as a children's book author, these two became All American's ultimate power couple. Plus, they capped off their final season as series-regular characters with an epic wedding, featuring heart-melting vows and an unforgettable first dance at the reception. (Watch it above.) — R.I.

Yancy and Rosa, Bad Monkey

Vince Vaughn's smart-ass Florida detective Yancy seemed like the kind of guy who flies solo, but he found a fitting partner in crime-solving in sassy coroner Rosa, played by Natalie Martinez. The two had crackling chemistry that burned hot despite their morbid surroundings — they had sex on a cadaver slab at the morgue, after all — but alas, they split up when Yancy just couldn't let a murder case go. We're hoping she pops back into his life in Season 2, though. — Dave Nemetz

Colin and Penelope, Bridgerton

Forever, it had seemed, blossoming wallflower Penelope had pined for crush Colin. So when at last the tables were turned in Season 3 — and he saw the love that had always been right before his eyes — we swooned right along with the object of his affections. The couple had passion to spare — hence, the inclusion of their memorable carriage ride on our list of the year's sexiest scenes — but their connection ran so much deeper than mere lust. "If my only purpose in life is to love a woman as great as you," Colin told his bride, "then I will be a very fulfilled man indeed." — Charlie Mason

Violet and Carver, Chicago Fire

What a rollercoaster it's been for the paramedic and the firefighter: What began as a casual, no-strings-attached relationship morphed into something more for Carver, who confessed that he'd fallen in love with Violet. But she was still scared after the tragic death of her boyfriend Evan, so Violet pushed Carver away. By the time she realized her mistake, Carver had returned from furlough with a troublemaking girlfriend from back home. And in more bad timing, Carver and Tori recently broke up, but now Violet is dating someone new. Showrunner Andrea Newman wasn't lying when she described Violet and Carver's storyline this season as tortured high-drama! — V.G.

Gordon and Ashley, Colin From Accounts

These two jolly Aussies decided to give it a go in Season 2 of the Paramount+ rom-com, forging an actual adult relationship — and even getting their beloved dog Colin back in the process. They weathered plenty of obstacles, including a pregnancy scare from an ex, and even looked headed for splitsville when Gordon's dad dropped dead right after Ashley insulted him. But they made up just in time for Gordon to pop the question at Megan's wedding reception... and for Ashley to turn him down cold. — D.N.

David and Kristen, Evil

Paramount+'s supernatural drama really toyed with our 'shipper hearts in its final season, moving David and Kristen closer than ever toward a romantic relationship (He considered leaving the priesthood! Her marriage ended!) and even having them outright state that they wished they had lives that would permit them to be together. But by the series finale, we had to content ourselves with the knowledge that they'd moved to Italy together — albeit platonically — to continue their work with the Vatican. — Kimberly Roots

Bode and Gabriela, Fire Country

Few if any TV couples rode a roller coaster as twisty as #Bodiela in 2024. Bode got outta prison! But feeling slighted, Gabi found new love with Diego! Bode nearly crashed Gabriela's wedding! And she wound up bailing on Diego anyway! But in the messy aftermath, Gabi wouldn't go all in with Bode — and hooked up with ex-beau Jake! Now, Bode's gravitating toward newcomer Audrey! #Bodiela 'shippers gotta be feeling singed. — Matt Webb Mitovich

Nick and Charlie, Heartstopper

It wasn't all fluttering leaves and stolen kisses for the adorable boyfriends in Season 3 of Netflix's superlative LGBTQ+ dramedy. But whether they were working up the courage to say "I love you," addressing Charlie's eating disorder or deciding to move from holding hands to having sex, Kit Connor and Joe Locke's counterparts leaned on one another — and into their enviable chemistry — to give us the thrilling sense that there was no obstacle they couldn't overcome. Yes, even Charlie's hatred of Marvel movies. — C.M.

Louis and Armand, Interview With the Vampire

Now this was a romance we could sink our teeth into. In hindsight, there was something strangely thrilling about watching Louis and Armand's love story unfold in the past while suspicion and lies drove them apart in the present. By the time you-know-who's unforgivable betrayal was revealed at the end of the season, we realized that this show hadn't merely messed with our heads — it also messed with our hearts. — Andy Swift

Kaylor and Aaron, Love Island USA

Reality TV pairings are highly combustible by nature, but these two really took us on a rollercoaster of emotion this season on Peacock's summer dating show. They were an unlikely match at first — she's a down-home party girl from rural Pennsylvania; he's an English bloke who sounds refined, at least — but their shared goofiness (and funny accents) made them one of the strongest pairs in the villa. That is, until Aaron's infamous dalliance with Daniela at Casa Amor led to heartbreak and tears... many, many tears. They got back together in the end, only to break up again at the reunion, and we're pretty sure they're still broken up, but we'll always have fond memories of their giggly summer of love. — D.N.

James and Ruby, Maxton Hall

The Prime Video drama's opposites-attract story of wealthy, wounded James and studious scholarship student Ruby was enemies-to-lovers heaven. Bribes and barbs were traded as James attempted to keep Ruby from spilling his sister's secret and as Ruby failed to hide her distaste for the rich boy. But of course, there's a thin line between love and hate, and pretty quickly, the pair were sharing much more than just snarky jabs. The episode where James and Ruby shared a sexy dance at a house party, and then he saved her from drowning in the pool, cradling her in his arms? Swoon! — V.G.

John and Jane, Mr. & Mrs. Smith

The rookie spies played by Donald Glover and Maya Erskine were strictly business partners at first, assigned to pose as a married couple. But a funny thing happened amid all the gunfire and explosions: Real feelings started to bloom, and they even talked about starting a family. All that came to an abrupt halt, though, when their spy agency ordered them to kill each other, leading to a vicious gunfight — and a realization of how much they actually care for each other. It's just a shame Season 2 will follow new spies, because we wanted to see how this love story played out. — D.N.

Gibbs and Lala, NCIS: Origins

You had us at "This is a story I don't tell... the story of her." From that moment on, we've kept an eye on "probie" Gibbs and this fellow agent that, in 19 years of NCIS, we never heard a peep about. Gibbs' shellshock after his family's murder and Lila grappling with 1990s strictures engaged us, and the duo's ups and downs of the past few weeks — culminating in her holding of his hand — have us most curious about what lies ahead. — M.W.M.

Joanne and Noah, Nobody Wants This

The relationship between the hot rabbi and agnostic podcaster dominated the pop culture conversation this year, and for good reason: The romance between the unlikely pair was charming, hilarious and captivating from their first meet-cute to their steamy first kiss and their first meeting of the families. And with very real issues plaguing the couple — Will Noah's family accept Joanne? Will Joanne convert to Judaism? — we were never sure how they would make their relationship work, which only made us root for them even more. — V.G.

Lucy and Tim, The Rookie

We're not sure who had a rougher spring — Chen and Bradford, or #Chenford 'shippers. Tim's break-up speech, coming out of the Ray Watkins mess, still stings ("I just can't go back to the way things were... maybe never"), as did the awkwardness between him and Lucy in the weeks that followed. On the brighter side, Tim acknowledged the work he needs to do on himself to be worthy of love/Lucy again, and her season-ending heroics to save him gave stalwart #Chenford fans hope. — M.W.M.

Sonny and Davis, SEAL Team

Not gonna lie — for the entirety of the military drama's seventh and final season, we thought that #Savis fans were going to be left dissatisfied, so resolute was Lisa to be wary of optics and keep Sonny at arm's length. But then everything fell into place, and that final shot of them holding hands while en route to a new future, together, was worth the wait. — M.WM.

Maya and Carina, Station 19

In the Grey's Anatomy spinoff's final season, "Marina" finally got on the same page — about everything. As a result, we were able to watch rhapsodically as the combustible marrieds were given the happiest of happy endings. (By the finale, they had adopted one child and were having another through IVF.) Danielle Savre and Stefania Spampinato even got to set off the smoke detector once more with a love scene for their characters that qualified as a four-alarm fire. — C.M.

CT and Phaedra, The Traitors

Even though nothing romantic actually happened between The Challenge's CT Tamburello and Real Housewives star Phaedra Parks, that didn't stop fans from imagining a happily-ever-after for them. For some unspoken reason, CT and Phaedra just clicked. The way they looked at each other. The softness they held for one another. It may have been strictly platonic, but it was enough to make 'shippers worldwide (including us) go wild. — Nick Caruso

Kat and Elliot, The Way Home

Time travel supremely complicated the "will they or won't they?" budding romance between Kat and Elliot in Season 2. After seven months away from home, Elliot returned to Port Haven to a strained a relationship with Kat. Even a kiss in their clubhouse couldn't dampen the pair's hurt feelings, leading to multiple arguments throughout the season. Then Kat found herself forming a connection with rum smuggler Thomas in the 1800s and sharing a kiss with him, before presuming him to be shot dead. But – twist! – he survived, she later learned. Thank goodness Season 3 premieres Friday, Jan. 3 because we need to see how this love triangle plays out ASAP. — V.G.

Amina and Ahsan, We Are Lady Parts

The endearingly awkward romance between punk rock guitarist Amina and her bandmate's brother Ahsan is one of the most delightful parts of Peacock's musical comedy, so we were worried when Amina took a fancy to folk guitarist Billy in Season 2. Luckily, the competition spurred Ahsan to acknowledge his feelings for Amina — he even made her a mixtape! — culminating in a serenade set to Hoobastank's "The Reason" (which never sounded better) and a swoon-worthy first kiss. We need a Season 3, if only to see these two make beautiful music together. — D.N.

Will and Angie, Will Trent

Though they started Season 2 as "just friends," the on-again/off-again couple ultimately found their way back to each other by Episode 7. But almost as soon as they rekindled their romance, Will went and arrested Angie for tampering with evidence, which may or may not represent the final nail in their relationship's coffin. — Ryan Schwartz

Monica and Kayce, Yellowstone

As Taylor Sheridan's Paramount Network Western rode off into the sunset, it was the worst of times for Tate's beleaguered parents and, ironically, the best of times, too. Though the couple was dealing with the aftermath of Dutton patriarch John's murder, they pulled together like never before, an effort that finally set them free of the ranch and afforded them a new beginning as much as it did a happy ending. Heck, Monica even discovered after all these years that her husband knew how to dance! — C.M.
