When The Walking Dead goes out, it’s going to be with a bang. Also, for good measure, a splat, a thunk, a whomp and a kaboom. “When we start [the final season], we’re rockin’ and rollin,’” showrunner Angela Kang tells TVLine. Forget intimate bottle episodes and character studies. “We’re back to being big and scope-y.
“There’s going to be a feeling that things are just ripping along for the first block,” which kicks off Sunday, Aug. 22. “Then,” she continues, “we’re going for some different tonal things than we’re used to on the show, which hopefully will be fun for the audience.”
What, in Season 11 of the AMC series, could possibly be different tonally, considering that we’ve already been served up heavy drama, bone-chilling horror, nail-biting action, bittersweet romance and even, now and then, a little bit of comic relief? “I think it’s just that mix,” says Kang. “And as we meet more than one kind of new community, every story will have its own vibe. So some of them may go into types of genres that haven’t been really explored on the show before.
“My hope is that it will feel like we’re still finding things that are new, even in the final season,” she adds, “but also that we’re just moving right along.” What do you think, Dead-heads? Are you ready to say goodbye to the series that launched the whole franchise? Are you all walker’d out? Hit the comments with your thoughts on the end of the line.
I really want to see Michonne and Rick reunite with Little Ass Kicker and RJ.
Me too want that too
I feel like any continuations of those stories will be told elsewhere…either in miniseries, TV movies, or some form. I think they’rea bit bigger then what they can fit in the remaining season. I don’t think they can possibly get both Andrew and Danai back for multiple episodes (maybe you could tell it in one dedicated episode…but that’sa huge story for only 42 minutes) under travel restrictions during the pandemic. He lives in the UK and I dont think Danai even spends all her time in LA.
They were already talking about filming in the UK so Andrew could continue the role in the future. I just don’t think it’s reasonable to expect to get both of them in Atlanta at the same time long enough to film any time soon…not with the pandemic making travel even harder.
I’m not trying to be negative though. I absolutely think they want to tell that story and are going to do everything possible to tell it. I’m sure it’s even a priority for them. I think they will try to move the sun and moon for them and to accommodate their schedules.
I’m sure they’d rather tell this story than make more spin-offs. I just don’t think we are going to get it till after this season.
Showrunner ,, more like Show Killer Angela Kang
I agree after some of the main characters were killed off I think after season 7 I stopped watching or season 8 whenever Rick died I gave up watching it
Angela Kang was not showrunner on The Walking Dead until Seasons 9 and 10. You know, when most people agreed the show actually became good again.
I want Rick back, too (you did notice that he didn’t actually die, right??), but don’t blame Angela Kang for decisions that were made between previous showrunners and the actor himself.
Who thought That! The show is much worse now
Rick didn’t die
Rick is not dead.
Not ready for the series to end. Ready to bring back Rick and Machone though.
That would of been nice maybe the final episode it was all a dream maybe idk
John c I think you’re on to something with that theory. The question would be who was doing the dreaming and will the main characters be live people when the dream end ala Oz?
They couldn’t do that and expect fans to go see the movies
I think it should of ended after Rick died I kinda felt like he made the show happen yes Darryl and carol are awesome but Rick made that show happen and since the death of Carl I just think with those two events alone made the show lose viewership but that’s just my opinion
Rewatch season 9. Rick didnt die. Jadis called someone and a helicopter arrived and took Her and Rick to a disclosed location. Rick is getting his own movies. 3 of them to be exact.
I definitely don’t want it to end. I live here in Senoia where it’s filmed! We need to keep our economy rolling in town!
Eye roll. I can’t with this chick. She loves to toot her own horn and always says this time will be bigger better best. I’m looking forward to the return but I don’t believe a word Kang says.
I’m gonna be in walker withdrawal. Walker depression will set in soon after, I’m sure.
I would love for the series not to end after the next season. It is one of my favorite programs and I will not be watching the new one beyond. It if so dumb
Can never get enough of TWD! I absolutely love this show. I have never missed one episode since the first one. I am so invested in the main characters and will wonder for years where their story would have taken them had the show continued.
No I’m not ready to loose TWD. The spin offs are not even close to as good as the main show. I’m really not happy at all to say goodbye.
I agree, there is still so many stories to be told.
Hate to see it end . Really enjoyed everything about it
I love this show, I have watched it from the beginning. I’m sad it will be the last season. Looking for Rick to return!
Please make more this is the best show ever I have watched every episode 20 time and still watching it I can’t get enough I love it love it
I don’t want it to ever end!!!
I’m not ready to say goodbye. I started with Episode 1 Season 1 when it first aired in 2009/2010, and except for a while after Negan was introduced (end S7) when I stopped for a couple of years due to work, I’ve followed faithfully.
I recently just caught up to end S10, and also just found out S11 ends it.
So I’m not ready.
Nooooo please don’t let this end i love this show so much i have grown to LOVE the characters please don’t end the show PLEASE
It’s such a shame that they dragged out the Negan/Saviors arc so long that Andrew Lincoln left before the Whisperers arc. That’s the best part of the comic and I’d have loved to see it with him still there. Anyway, the problem the main show is having right now is that the new characters they are introducing aren’t as compelling as the longtime ones who are leaving or being killed off. This isn’t a problem the show used to have, when new characters arrived fully formed and quickly won us over, and it isn’t a problem Fear is having either. So I don’t know what the issue is, but I hope the show figures it out.
I have been watching the show from the start. Even though i didnt like some of my favorite characters dying, i never stopped watching. Even when the show went through some tough periods i never stopped watching. Im a fan through and through. Im a collecter with at least 30 different walking dead character acton figures hanging on my wall even though i have yet to get 4 of my favorites Glenn,Abraham, Negan and Sasha. I have Dwights crossbow , Ricks shot gun. I have several pillow covers, T-Shirts and drinking glasses and more. I dont watch much TV but the 4 shows i do watch have ended or are ending. Supernatural, Arrow, Vikings and of course my Walking Dead. I wish it would not end. I would like it to go on as long as our cast would want to continue their roles. I think even though the comic ended the storyline in the show can still go on. In the apocolypse there are always stories to be told and i would love to see how our characters go on in the future that we have been following for so long. That being said, I WOULD LIVE TO SAY THANK YOU TO THE CAST AND THE CREW FOR ALL THE HARD WORK AND THE AMAZING JOB THEY HAVE DONE KEEPING ME ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT ALL THESE YEARS. YOUR CHARACTERS ALL BECAME A PART OF ME. I WISH EVERYONE THE BEST OF LUCK IN THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS AND GREAT SUCCESS ON WHATEVER THEIR CAREER PATH HOLDS.
Please do not stop filming I need this in my life !! Forever!!
Just can’t handle it all ending. Love the show and wanted it to keep going.
I think its stupid to end a show thats still great and pulling great ratings.
Why does it have to end??? Never end it Ever please. I Love The Walking Dead.
I’ll been watching the walking dead from the start, and can’t get enough of it, and looking forward for season 11, and was sad when I heard its the final season! If you could continue please do but if you can’t I will try and understand 😔 thanks for keeping us all entertain it is a great show and thanks a lot!
Breaking my heart the show will be over. Thank you to all that made my life a little brighter.
Love the Walking Dead seriously! Would watch it forever if I could!
