Warning: The following post contains spoilers from this week’s episode of Scorpion.
That faint song you hear in the distance is the sound of Scorpion fans everywhere breaking into the “Hallelujah Chorus.”
After three long seasons of will-they-won’t-they, Walter and Paige finally — finally! — confessed their love for each other (and then some) during Monday’s episode, just moments after friends Happy and Toby tied the knot.
Of course, at the top of the hour, the mood between the two was significantly chillier, given that Walter had dismissed Paige from Team Scorpion in the previous installment. But when Paige returned for Happy and Toby’s nuptials — and essentially planned the entire ceremony herself — Walter at last worked up the courage to tell her how he’s been feeling:
“I fired you because I’m in love with you. I’ve been in love with you since shortly after we met. And I have spent years trying to process how that should be handled. Perhaps it’s not something that is supposed to be handled. Maybe it’s something that just is. And I know you don’t feel the same as I do, and that’s OK. But I just wanted you to know.”
Paige’s response? “Walter, I’m in love with you, too.”
No sooner had Walter and Paige admitted their feelings for each other then they were caught making out in a utility closet (!!) at Happy and Toby’s reception… and were promptly dragged away for their next case. But just as they were settling in for their flight to French Polynesia, the aircraft went down — and nothing ruins the honeymoon phase like a downed plane, you know?
For a breakdown of Walter and Paige’s long-awaited moment, TVLine chatted with Scorpion executive producers Nick Santora and Nick Wootton, who also teased what’s to come for the couple in the Season 3 finale and beyond.
TVLINE | When had you come to a decision about getting Walter and Paige together this season — and, more specifically, at Happy and Toby’s wedding?
NICK SANTORA | In June, before we even started writing and we were just talking about the arc of the season. We’ve always known we wanted to bring Walter and Paige together, and we thought it would be fun to bring them together in the romantic setting of someone else’s wedding. We pull them apart, then we bring them together at a wedding, and it’s a romantic spot, and they go for it.
TVLINE | Did Elyes Gabel and Katharine McPhee know about this before any other cast members? How did they react?
NICK WOOTTON | We always have a dinner every year with the cast at [co-star] Robert Patrick’s house at Christmas. It’s a lovely event. We tell them where we think we’re going to be heading as the season goes into its second half. I think that’s when we told them what was going to be happening, which was the wedding, and [Paige and Walter] getting together in a closet. We laid it out to them then.
SANTORA | They like the back-and-forth of the relationship. Elyes and Kat have never wanted those characters to get together too quickly. They knew that it might be a short-term satisfaction but long-term, people might feel they were ripped off from watching a courtship go on for a long time. They’ve always wanted it to take a while. But when it finally came to fruition, they were quite excited.
TVLINE | In a situation like this, when a TV relationship has been long in the making, fans might not want them to break up or encounter any real drama anytime soon. How do you guys hope to maneuver around this relationship in a way that doesn’t split them up immediately?
WOOTTON | We’ve obviously seen it done on other shows, successfully and unsuccessfully. What we really pay the most attention to is our own internal clock, in terms of what we think is organic for these guys. Obviously, you want to see a honeymoon period. We’ve been building to this, so let’s play it. But then you have to start to complicate these things, or else it’s just a happy good time. And a happy good time is not necessarily dramatic. You need to make it realistic, and you have to throw in complications and make it continually interesting as the seasons go on. How we plan on doing that is in the very early planning stages, but it will not be the world’s smoothest ride. Walter’s not the easiest person, and to throw them into bliss indefinitely would be inauthentic to what we’ve set up.
TVLINE | Walter’s emotional development has been a major factor this season. Now that he’s a slightly better communicator than in Seasons 1 and 2, how will that change the way you write him and Paige as a couple?
WOOTTON | He’s learned from her, but he’s learned from her in a very intellectual way. He does feel it, but he processes it through a computer first. It’s through his brain, which is very scientifically oriented. So he’s learned, but he also analyzes things to death, and he’s not the smoothest cat, as we’ll see in the two-part finale. He’s a fairly clunky romantic. He’s just not good at this. The romance center is underdeveloped, where the rest of his brain is so overdeveloped. So there’s a lot of fun to be had there.
TVLINE | What impact will the finale’s plane crash have on their newfound romance?
WOOTTON | They’re stuck on an island, and they can’t really get together. They can’t have these amazing, private moments — and neither can Toby and Happy. Everybody’s a little frustrated.
Your turn, Scorpion fans! Are you happy to see Walter and Paige together at last? Did Happy and Toby’s wedding live up to expectations? Drop a comment below with all of your thoughts!
Dang good episode of Scorpion! So glad Walter and Paige finally admitted their love for each other, and excited to see where it goes ❤️
I love this show. Hopefully, now that the will-they/won’t-they is out of the way, it won’t be such a front burner issue.
I’m almost embarrassingly happy with the way this episode played out.
I’m ecstatic!!! Waited 3 seasons for this. Liked that Walter acknowledge how he has felt since meeting Paige because it’s always been there. Well done Scorpion!!
Yes yes and yes have been waiting for this!!! Hope to see where it goes. (Marriage )
Wow didn’t really see that coming just yet, loved the episode and yes finally seeing Paige and Walter admit their feelings was great.
I am finally glad Walter and Paige got together. They desire it the fans desire it. Just keep them together. And not break them up. Keep the show interesting and going. Love this tv show.
I hope y’all don’t mess it up and break them up in the future. Their love should last. They should get married. They can be happy and work out the problems. The wedding was beautiful. Great acting for Toby. He had me crying.
Love Scorpion. Great show. So happy Walter and Paige admitted their love for each other. Great episode. Excited to see where how their relationship continues as long as the don’t break them up.
Thanks Scorpion!!! You came back stronger than ever!!! Season 3 episode 23 is “Da Bomb!!”
Very happy to finally see them get together., it took long enough. Time for him to become “father figure to son”. They can finally develop their relationship slowly over time…. but the recognition of mutual feelings was great and long awaited!
Please please please keep Walter and Paige together. I would love to see season 4 concentrate on Walter and Paiges love blooming with Ralph by there sides but also Happy and Tobys marriage beginning. And while that’s going on, I believe it’s time for Cabe and Sly also to find their true loves. While making the gang a bigger happier family, them solving the crazy problems that they do.
Sly already did….unfortunately, she died.
Yea sly went be looking or finding anyone for a long time. He married the love of his life (Walter’s sister) and she died. It shouldn’t be realistic for him to have a romance for a long time.
Finally! You can really over do the will they – won’t they thing until it becomes intolerable. Let them stay together and continue on with the crux of the show…episodes that pose a problem then gets fixed by Scorpion. Happy ending every time. That is what this world needs now. Problem solving, crisis averting happy endings and two very lovely couples who work together like Hart to Hart! Love without angst can work and be a little comforting to those of us out here who are facing a broken world everyday. Please, why bring in the sadness when suspense in solving big world problems is what they do best!
Just magic
The best episode in a long time! So glad they’re finally together. I also really enjoyed the interactions between Ralph and Walter.
Agree love the show can’t wait to see them together; please enough suffering already let them enjoy and grow ad a couple:)
Fantastic! please don”t be a dream i cried more than in years Happy tears love this show look forward to each episode love all the characters and the actors are perfect for each part posting this on my mom’s email
TVLine quote of the week nomination!! TVLine quote of the week nomination!!
Ralph to Walter: “And you’re lucky I’m a kid. If I was bigger I would fight you. You hurt my mother.”
Ralph was great in this episode. He is such a loyal young man, I loved how he stood up to Walter and told him how it is. Walter thought he could be intellectual with Ralph on this subject but Ralph wasn’t having any of it.
Agreed~
As a rule, I have less interest in any TV than the average American toddler has in watching British soap operas. I enjoyed “Cosmos” and such, but the rest I actively avoid. Most shows simply do not hold my interest.
That said, I *love* Scorpion. I really do. And I literally laughed aloud at them being caught in the utility closet.
Ollicity – Season 3
Waige – Season 3
Things that make you go hmmmmmmmm
Was Tobey’s reference to his prom tuxedo a reference back to American Pie? It looked like the same one to me…
It did look the same.
I came here to ask exactly this. Did Finch also wear Chucks?
The last segment [the wedding] was hilarious! Walter’s “I don’t know how to process that information.” along with the bewildered expression had me in stitches. Toby and Happy never disappoint and even Cabe was a hoot. Loved it!
I am so excited that it finally happened for Walter and Paige. It’s been a long time coming and I can’t wait to see what happens with the characters.
Three seasons of will they won’t they has me exhausted. Please stop for a while and just let them be. I know you have to bring in obstacles, but please, not another person. Aren’t there enough problems for lovers already? The wedding and then the dance and closet scene were incredible and so enjoyable after this sucky season. Stop Walter bashing, come on!
Finally! There were a lot of Yay’s and Halla’s in our household. The husband said, “I could have done with just a kiss, though.” I told him she was making sure Walter was not going to rationalize his way out of it.
I’ve waited forever for Walter and Paige to get together and I hope they continue to romance in the next season. They are great together at least on film. Yaay! Always my favorite show.
I was literally Cabe in front of the closet haha… Happy that they finally explore it for real, and I absolutely love the connection between Ralph and Walter. Ralph is such a great kid!
I was very happy to see Walter and Paige Finally getting together as a couple, iam glad Paige’s son, got Walters attention,I new Ralph would make the difference, because he Loves His Mother and he Loves Walter as well Iam glad to see this Family come together, now you writers we need Another wedding Paige and Walters, with Ralph Being The Best Man,y’all make it happen, I love me some SCORPION,Dedicated Fan.
