TV Characters That Should Be Couples

Valentine's Day has arrived, and love is almost in the air for more than two dozen TV pairs. In the spirit of Cupid, we've rounded up 25 small-screen duos that we'd like to see give romance a try, from exes that deserve another shot to longtime friends who oughta take that next step. Scroll down to see our picks from This Is Us, The Walking Dead, How to Get Away With Murder, Chicago Fire and more shows!

911-buck-eddie

9-1-1's Buck and Eddie

Why We Want Them Together: While we appreciate that 9-1-1: Lone Star hath blessed us with TK and Carlos, we'll always carry a torch for Buck and Eddie, the franchise's original dream team. Sure, the two characters have only appeared interested in women, but chemistry is chemistry. We don't make the rules here!

JAMES RODAY, ALLISON MILLER

A Million Little Things' Gary and Maggie

Why We Want Them Back Together: Because now that Gary has at least started to address the feelings of abandonment stemming from his mother's departure decades earlier, he's in a much better place to appreciate (read: not run away from) the love of a good woman who accepts him, biting snark and all.

aj-and-the-queen-robert-damien

AJ and the Queen's Robert and Damien

Why We Want Them Back Together: Sure, Damien was introduced to us as the sleazebag who conned Robert out of his life savings, but he had a real change of heart over the Netflix dramedy's 10-episode first season. And if the show is lucky enough to get renewed, it could be interesting to see them (at least try) to reconnect — if only to get more of Josh Segarra on our screens.

Protect Ya Neck

All American's Spencer and Olivia

Why We Want Them Together: We mean no disrespect to Olivia's current beau, Asher, who has (mostly) set aside his villainous tendencies and matured quite a bit. But Olivia's chemistry with Spencer has been obvious since he arrived in Beverly Hills, and they've formed a profoundly meaningful bond — Spencer literally took a bullet for her! — that we suspect would make them the ultimate Beverly High power couple.

Memento Mori

Charmed's Maggie and Parker

Why We Want Them Back Together: Why are we even pretending to invest in Maggie's relationship with Jordan when she has a much better — albeit slightly demonic — option in Parker? Real talk: Chemistry between couples has always been a weak point for this CW reboot, so it seems silly to deprive us of the one pairing guaranteed to get viewers excited.

Chicago Fire - Season 7

Chicago Fire's Brett and Casey

Why We Want Them Together: While Casey has dated — and even hooked up with his ex-wife — he hasn't gotten serious about anyone since his marriage to Gabby ended. Meanwhile, Brett has had terrible luck in the love department, with her most recent relationship ending in another broken engagement. Don't these two lonely hearts deserve some happiness? Judging by the glances and their slowly growing friendship, the Chicago Fire writers might agree with us.

Chicago P.D.- Season 7

Chicago P.D.'s Ruzek and Burgess

Why We Want Them Back Together: The story of "Burzek" has been quite a roller coaster. When the exes' recent hookup resulted in a surprise pregnancy, it seemed as though the former couple might finally make another go of it. But sadly, after the baby was lost, Burgess pulled away from Ruzek, even though he stepped up to support her. As much as Burgess might try to resist it, these two are meant to be a part of each other's lives.

Chicago P.D. - Season 7

Chicago P.D.'s Upton and Halstead

Why We Want Them Together: Both characters have made it clear that they would do anything for each other and would follow one another wherever their jobs took them. Upton even almost told Halstead how she feels about him when he was recently injured. After several seasons of slow-play, it's time to take the pair's partnership to the next level.

Book 27

Evil's David and Kristen

Why We Want Them Together: Look, we know hoping that an almost-priest and a married woman hook up isn't going to win us any approval from The Man Upstairs. But why, then, would He give us a non-couple so flirty, engaging, smart and — yeah, we'll say it — tempting? This must be exactly how Adam felt with that apple.

EMMA HUNTON, JOSH PENCE

Good Trouble's Davia and Dennis

Why We Want Them Together: The pals have such a beautiful, loving friendship that we fear pairing them up, romantically, might actually ruin a good thing. But the way Davia has stood by Dennis' side through his grief, and the way he lets her in, definitely says these two are more than just friends.

greys-anatomy-station-19-maggie-dean

Grey's Anatomy/Station 19's Maggie and Dean

Why We Want Them Together: Everything that Maggie's pairing with stepbrother Jackson wasn't, her potential pairing with smitten firefighter Dean would be: fun, sexy and full of promise. Plus, how lovely would it be to see her appreciated by a man who likes her as she is, rather than judged by a man who doesn't?

htgawm-annalise-tegan

How to Get Away With Murder's Annalise and Tegan

Why We Want Them Together: It feels a bit silly to play matchmaker for any Murder characters when there are arguably more important issues at hand (like Annalise's potential death, for one). But assuming Annalise and Tegan both survive the ABC drama, we're rooting for these friends and colleagues to give it a go, after countless dropped hints that they're into each other.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - Season 21

Law & Order: SVU's Rollins and Carisi

Why We Want Them Together: The ADA and the detective already love each other — that breakdown scene in the elevator! — and they came so close to... frisking each other on that road trip a few seasons back. Perhaps a relationship with the cop-turned-lawyer is exactly what Rollins, a self-proclaimed hot mess, needs to get her life (and her heart) to a good, healthy place.

Commitment Issues

NCIS: Los Angeles' Sam and Nicole

Why We Want Them Together: Yeah, we know — the show as of late has been teasing Sam and Katherine, insurance broker to the elite. But there's something about DeChamps' lower-key vibe that charms us to no end, and could provide a softer landing for the widower's heart.

New Amsterdam - Season 1

New Amsterdam's Max and Helen

Why We Want Them Together: The colleagues developed a bond that was so strong and unwavering in Season 1 that it was, honestly, kind of a problem, seeing as how Max was married. Now that the doc is a widower, the show is smartly focusing on the pair's friendship — but we still can't help rooting for a romance down the road.

prodigal-son-malcolm-dani

Prodigal Son's Malcolm and Dani

Why We Want Them Together: You could argue that Malcolm Bright is nowhere near ready for a romantic relationship. And you'd probably be right! But if he were in the right headspace to have a girlfriend, who could possibly be a better fit than Dani, whose bond with Malcolm seems to grow deeper each week? She already knows about Malcolm's many demons — and when you find a girl who isn't freaked out by the wrist restraints you wear to bed, you keep her.

Rock Bottom

SEAL Team's Jason and Mandy

Why We Want Them Together: Though it'd be even less kosher than Jason dating Natalie, his NHRC physiologist, the fact is that whenever (which is rarely!) he and Mandy bond on a deeper level, things get pretty combustible. Plus, as David Boreanaz once contended in a TVLine Q&A, who's to say Jason and Mandy haven't in the past hooked up on the down low?

sex-education-otis-maeve

Sex Education's Otis and Maeve

Why We Want Them Together: Otis and Maeve started as an unlikely duo, but formed deep-seated feelings when everything fell apart around them. Otis is the nice guy we don't want to see finish last; he's also the stable support system the always-abandoned Maeve needs. "Maevis" has suffered multiple missed connections (damn you, Isaac!) and their chemistry is just too charming to leave unexplored.

LEIGHTON MEESTER, TARAN KILLAM

Single Parents' Will and Angie

Why We Want Them Together: We've gotta give the ABC sitcom credit: As much as we 'ship these two, the show has consistently introduced charming love interests for both characters, which has made it easier to accept that Will and Angie aren't dating yet. (Adam Brody's Derek was especially endearing.) But we all know that Will and Angie are endgame — and with Single Parents' fate still unclear, we're hoping they couple up sooner rather than later.

Monster

S.W.A.T.'s Street and Chris

Why We Want Them Together: "Throuple" life has proven to be twice the headache that Chris needs, while Hicks' daughter, though lovely, seems a bit vanilla for the envelope-pushing S.W.A.T. recruit. Besides, we really need a follow-up to that kiss from late Season 2.

The Blood of Sanctum

The 100's Bellamy and Clarke

Why We Want Them Together: "Bellarke" might be one of the slowest slow burns in CW history. Despite the obvious sparks between them — actors Eliza Taylor and Bob Morley are married in real life — the characters have yet to even kiss on the lips. With the sci-fi drama poised to enter its seventh and final season this spring, now would be as good a time as any to make that happen.

the-marvelous-mrs-maisel-midge-lenny

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's Midge and Lenny Bruce

Why We Want Them Together: Let's forget about "historical accuracy" for a minute. Midge has such sizzling chemistry with legendary comic Lenny Bruce — they're comedy soulmates, and did you see that Season 3 slow dance? — that we'd love to see them (finally) take that witty banter of theirs to the bedroom. Like Lenny said himself, "Maybe someday... before I'm dead."

the-resident-mina-aj

The Resident's Mina and AJ

Why We Want Them Together: We respect the Fox drama's slow-burn approach to this relationship; after all, a failed romance between Mina and AJ could ruin their flawless professional dynamic, and that would be a shame. Given that the Chastain docs are deeply in love with each other, though, it's a risk we're hoping the show will eventually take.

the-walking-dead-daryl-connie

The Walking Dead's Daryl and Connie

Why We Want Them Together: The prolonged looks have said it all, at least in our minds. Daryl has been studying ASL so that he can someday sign just three little words to the spunky survivor who'd be his first-ever romantic interest. And not for nothing, but Connie even has the seal of approval from Daryl's besties, Carol and Dog.

This Is Us - Season 4

This Is Us' Kevin and Sophie

Why We Want Them Back Together: Though they married way too early and have had a couple of false starts, it really feels like the former high school sweethearts have matured during their time apart. And out of all of the women we've seen Kevin date, Sophie is the one who understands him the best... and who doesn't mind lovingly taking him down a peg or four — he really gets Actor-y sometimes, doesn't he? — when the situation calls for it.
