This new pairing makes a lot of sense: They share a passion for music, and Archie seems to have a thing for Pussycats. (Remember Val? Yeah, we barely do either.) We also support anything that gives Josie more screentime, but we have a bad feeling Archie might go crawling back to Veronica… and break Josie’s heart. Maybe she’ll get a few good songs out of it, at least.
Riverdale High’s equivalent of an old married couple, these two have outlasted all of their teen peers, and as long as there’s a fresh murder to solve, they’ll never run out of things to talk about. (Plus, they proved in the latest episode they can get as steamy as anyone.) They’ve managed to survive some major bumps in the road, and at this point, we can’t imagine them with anyone else. Please, writers, don’t put them with anyone else.
Veronica has bounced back from her Archiekins heartbreak with Reggie, and the two certainly seem to have a, um, physical connection. But don’t you get the feeling that if Archie came calling, she’d drop Reggie like a bad habit? This feels like a classic rebound, and therefore a guaranteed dead end for poor Reggie. Also, most ‘ship names are dumb, but “Veggie” is especially dumb.
Riverdale’s queen bees have been lovey-dovey ever since first hooking up last season, and they seem to have a healthy dynamic: The more grounded Toni helps to balance out Cheryl’s mischievous tendencies. (Which she needs. Badly.) We just want to see more of them, right? Maybe their new post-Serpents gang the Pretty Poisons will provide us with more “Choni” time.
What happened here? The two former flames were hot and heavy at the beginning of Season 3, but now Alice is apparently too busy with her beloved Farm to make time for F.P. (Not that Betty and Jughead mind. Ick.) Plus, F.P.’s wife Gladys is back in town, so it’s even less likely we’ll see these two back in bed together anytime soon. But we still like them together. (Anyone’s better for Alice than Hal.)
This has always been a loveless marriage of convenience, but nowadays, it’s positively icy between Veronica’s parents. They’re both openly cheating on each other, and Hermione did conspire with F.P. to get Hiram shot, so there’s that. It’d be nice to see Hermione find somebody who actually loves her… like, say, Fred. (More on him in a bit.)
Hey, an adult couple who actually likes each other and wants to get married! (Although weren’t they both married to other people until very recently? Never mind.) As weird as it must be for Kevin and Josie to see their parents getting hitched, we could use more positive role models on Riverdale… which, around here, basically means not being a serial killer or a crime boss.
We haven’t actually seen Cheryl’s mom and Betty’s dad together, but we know they’re enjoying “conjugal visits” while Hal is behind bars for all his Black Hood murders. Penelope’s a killer, too, so we guess they have a lot in common? Still, not a lot to root for with this couple… except as long as they’re together, they won’t inflict themselves on anyone else.
Poor Kevin. Poor, poor Kevin. He’s a member of Riverdale’s very tiny LGBT population, so his romantic options are quite limited to start with. And when he does find a love interest, they either end up dead (Joaquin) or leaving town as soon as they come out of the closet (Moose). Fingers crossed he finds someone in town worth dating… or just ditches Riverdale for a more sexually diverse locale.
Why is Fred Andrews alone, people? He’s easily the best parent in Riverdale — although, as we’ve established, that’s not saying much. But while everyone else in town is getting busy all around him, he’s stuck home alone, worrying about Archie, usually. He did have that dalliance with Hermione in Season 1 while Hiram was in jail — maybe they can reignite things soon? But actually, Fred deserves someone better than her anyway. That’s really the takeaway here: Fred deserves better!
