THADDEUS DOWLING
The American diplomat (Parks and Recreation's Nick Offerman) unknowingly gets wrapped up in the battle between Heaven and Hell when his wife gives birth at a British convent run by the Chattering Order of St. Beryl... who happen to be Satanists. "I identified [Thaddeus] as the boss we've all had in various jobs that has been so assured in his rectitude or his righteousness, and yet is so far off from being actually correct, but has the confidence to pull it off," Offerman says.

ANATHEMA DEVICE
Good Omens' full title is Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, and this young American (Emerald City's Adria Arjona) is the latest descendant of that titular spellcaster. Using her ancestor's book of prognostication as a guide, Anathema arrives in England ready to play her role in the apocalypse... if only she can nail down its most elusive key player.

AZIRAPHALE
The fussy angel (played by Masters of Sex's Michael Sheen) has been around since the Garden of Eden. He runs a bookshop in London and has gotten quite comfortable living alongside — though not part of — humanity. "Aziraphale loves the food, and the drink and all the trappings of the world," Sheen says, adding that the angel and his demonic counterpart, Crowley, have a similar opinion about life on Earth. "They love the world of humans in an interactive way... but you don't get the sense that they actually spend that much time with humans themselves."

CROWLEY
The rakish demon (Doctor Who's David Tennant) also has been on Earth since Adam and Eve. (Remember that tempting serpent in the Garden of Eden? Yep, that was him.) And while he's content to cause mayhem in the name of the Dark Lord, he's grown rather fond of human accouterments like fast cars and rock music. Crowley and Aziraphale bond, Tennant says, "because they don't relate to their head officers, because they've rejected that way of being. Actually, the mortal world's quite fun, but neither can have friends, because they've gone rogue." He laughs. "They've gone native."

DOG
This is the plainly named hellhound dispatched to accompany the Antichrist on his path to world domination and eventual destruction. Cute little bugger, isn't he?

HASTUR AND LIGUR
The lords of Hell (Peaky Blinders' Ned Dennehy and Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell's Ariyon Bakare, respectively) first appear with a very important task for Crowley to complete. It's no overstatement to say that the mission, quite literally, could mean the end of the world... and these two wouldn't have it any other way. Also? They're loyal denizens of the underworld, and they really don't get/like Crowley's assimilation into human culture.

SHADWELL
Witchfinder Sergeant Shadwell (Better Call Saul's Michael McKean) is the first, last and only — literally! — line of defense against the growth of witchcraft in England. But when he stumbles onto a new recruit, who in turn stumbles into Aziraphale and Crowley's end-of-the-world hullaballoo, the delusional old man suddenly has a new quest tossed into his (possibly lethal?) hands.

GABRIEL
A Heavenly higher-up, Gabriel (Mad Men's Jon Hamm) dresses impeccably, takes himself rather seriously and has little time for Aziraphale's soft spot for people. He's not terribly worried about impending Armageddon, either: Naturally, the good side will win, right? As the pompous angel, Hamm recalls, "I was usually the one that was tasked with the ridiculous. It's a funny show. It's very clever. Neil [Gaiman, series creator] is a very intelligent human being and very intelligent writer, and the jokes come out of wit as much as they come out of slapdashery."

MADAME TRACY
Shadwell's eccentric, exceedingly understanding neighbor (Tom & Viv's Miranda Richardson) runs several businesses out of her flat; one of these side hustles involves her debatable clairvoyant abilities. That's why it's a double shock when she proves an apt spiritual portal at a crucial moment in the story.

NEWTON PULSIFER
Newt (British sitcom Bad Education's Jack Whitehall) can't seem to find a job he's good at... until he bumps into Witchfinder Sergeant Shadwell and finds himself drafted into the Witchfinder Army. He's also mentioned in Agnes Nutter's mystical tome... but why?
