Everwood's got a celebrity supporter: Katherine Heigl, who worked with Berlanti on the film Life as We Know It. "She's rewatching Everwood with her kids," Berlanti shares. "She sends me notes from time and time. She's always been a big fan of the show."

After Everwood, star Treat Williams went on to become TV's go-to dad on shows like White Collar and Chicago Fire, to name a few. "And now I'm a grandad" on Hallmark Channel's family drama Chesapeake Shores, Williams notes. But technically, didn't he become a TV grandfather a long time ago? As fans will remember — super old spoiler alert! — Madison (played by Sarah Lancaster) had Ephram's baby, which she gave up for adoption. "Oh, my God! Yeah! Holy mackerel! I forgot all about that!" Williams exclaims.
The CW 'Everwood- A 15th Anniversary Reunion' panel, TCA Summer Press Tour at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA, USA - 02 Aug 2017
At the show's 15th anniversary panel during the Television Critics Association summer press tour in August, Berlanti revealed that "no one has asked" for a proper revival or reunion. But surely some smart executive has brought it up since then, given the warm and emotional reception the program received at TCA? "I definitely think that there's a lot more intrigue, but nobody's made any real steps forward," he says. "But the response in the room, and the enthusiasm for it in the room, and the enthusiasm from everyone on stage together, it certainly got people talking." Adds Williams: "If they call, I'd come in a heartbeat. Because I think Greg Berlanti's one of the best writers, certainly, that I've had a chance to work with. I'm very proud of those four years."

With The WB transitioning into The CW, Berlanti & Co. went in to pitch incoming network president Dawn Ostroff on their Season 5 plan. As they were leaving the meeting, "I came out and saw [Supernatural creator] Eric [Kripke] standing outside," Berlanti remembers. "He was going in to pitch Supernatural. It was a bubble show, just as we were, so we were all pitching for our lives... I remember [Eric] looking over at me and being like, 'How did you do?' I was like, 'I don't know. I think we did OK. I think we got a shot.'" But "the thing that really turned everything on its ear and eliminated a slot was 7th Heaven at the last minute [getting renewed despite having aired its series finale]. That killed us more than anything."

Creator Greg Berlanti, who was only 29 years old when he wrote the pilot, "definitely" sees "the whole show from a different point of view" today, he says. "I definitely wrote the show as a young man. Now I see it as a middle-aged man. My son's only 18 months old, but we've definitely already had one or two of our own share of moments [where] I can see that adolescence flash before my eyes," he jokes.

Ephram calling his dad a "dick" in the pilot may have caught the attention of The WB's Standards & Practices, but a different bit of dialogue was more memorable for star Gregory Smith. "The line that stuck out to me is not a line that you would normally hear on a network TV show: 'I wish you'd died instead of her,'" the actor shares. "That scene and that line was a door into that character and what he was going through and where he was emotionally, for me, because that cuts."
