Roseanne Revival: Meet ‘Mini’ Darlene
Now all they need is the father.
ABC‘s upcoming Roseanne revival has tapped Shameless vet Emma Kenney to play the series-regular role of Harris, Darlene and David’s daughter. The news, coupled with the earlier hiring of Ames McNamara as Harris’ younger sibling Mark, completes casting of Darlene and David’s children. It also comes as ABC has yet to make a deal with the clan’s patriarch, played by Big Bang Theory‘s Johnny Galecki.
As Roseanne diehards know, the character of Harris was first introduced to viewers in Season 9’s 19th episode, when Darlene delivered the baby very prematurely. The original casting breakdown for the now 14-year-old Connor offspring described her as a hellion and the spitting image of her mother — in appearance and attitude (although we hear the character continues to evolve and may end up being much lighter than Darlene).
Kenney joins returning Roseanne vets Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Michael Fishman, Lecy Goranson and Sarah Chalke.
ABC’s eight-episode Roseanne revival — production of which begins in early October — is slated to air in early 2018.
Didn’t Jackie and Fred have s kid named Andy? Is that character on the new show? Also Crystal and Dan’s half brother would be fun as a teen too.
More then half brother. Crystal had 2 kids with Dan’s dad Ed. I think a boy and a girl. I remember Crystal calling the 1st baby Little Ed so he was a boy.

Shouldn’t David and Darlene’s daughter be 20 or 21 years old now? Why de-SORAS’d her?
I just looked her up. She is 18 IRL. So they aren’t far off. The photo they chose to post makes her look young.
The character was born in an episode aired in 1997 so she should be 21 when the show returns next year, yet they are making her 14.
dan is coming back from the dead and this is what you guys have a problem wit… the continuity of the kids age lol come on guys its tv…
You and I were thinking the same thing how are they going to pull off Dan coming back from the dead both of the two Becky’s but no David and no Mark.
It’s not real, so they can do anything they want. Even bring people back from the dead. Perhaps the revival starts out in 2011???

Ah Duh. In last episode Roseanne reveals that Dan died from his heart attack. Mark was with Darlene, and Becky was with David, and Jackie was gay. She then says as she closes her book, shuts off the basement light, and closes the door, about the truth not making for a good book. She plops down on the sofa, with the same plaid crocheted Afghan. Don’t believe I will be watching remake. After final episode, this will just be ridiculous
Could be justified by saying why does Roseanne’s epilogue have to be the “truth”. It was her writing about her family so she says at the end of that episode what she wrote was partly fiction and here’s her real family. Maybe what she wrote was true and the afterwords in her book was the fiction that she threw in to play around with the readers (assuming she ever had readers). It would be a fairly reasonable way to justify that the story we saw through the years was true and her voice over at the end was a “just kidding’ moment which means that Dan could live, Darlene and David could be a couple and so on.
That’s what I thought too.
I assume this won’t impact her role on Shameless?

Come on people it’s a TV show for Petes sake, does her age or that she’s a star matter, I can not wait to see the revival, I’ve always loved the show and watch repeats from the DVD series I bought, honestly one of the best shows imo, besides golden girls and I love Lucy all 3 I feel were ahead of the times in some form or another.
!This… a show where the dad is coming back from the dead (on a non-supernatural show and with the original actor) but age continuity is the issue lol
I couldn’t agree more! I am soooo excited!! I watch the repeats on tv all the time & hubby still got me the box set because I love it so much. LOL & Golden Girls, well that’s another of our guilty pleasures too, but I’d trade your Lucy for MASH ;-)
Gosh I hope this doesn’t interfere with her being on Shameless. As annoying as Deb is the character is very important to the show. I am surprised at her age I really thought she was younger.
I guess I don’t understand the hold up on David.. and maybe my thinking why is skewed on the matter but hear me out.. Hollywood is a connections town we all know this… Now Roseanne is going to be on ABC which is a rival of CBS yes, however, Sara Gilbert creator and Host of CBS The Talk is cleared to participate in the show… now Johnny Galecki is also on a CBS show The Big Bang Theory why would they let one star participate and not the other… especially considering Sara does The Talk with Julie Chen who is married to CBS president Les Moonves… Talking this out has made me question.. whether Sara cashed in on being besties with Julie to offset getting this done with her being allowed to jump networks for a show… or maybe The Big Bang being CBS highest rated show doesn’t want to endanger is the cash cow… I guess it just doesn’t make total sense but I’ve argued both sides to myself now I’d like to know what you guys think is the hold-up…Bonus opinion I DO NOT think it’s a hold up on Johnny Galeckis part but, he has been quiet on the whole reboot so maybe it is…bah
My assumption is because both BBT and Roseanne will be in primetime, and potentially competing timeslots. The View is daytime, so that wouldn’t be an issue.

Johnny can’t have 2 competing prime time shows on rival networks. David will probably be in NYC working and do a couple of guest star appearances

What about Jerry – Dan and Roseanne’s late life kid? And the other comments mentioned Andy and Crystal and Ed’s baby plus Lonney. Hopefully we’ll get to see them all. I’d also assume that David and Darlene named their second kid Mark in tribute to Mark because they’ll have him deceased (as Glenn Quinn is) in the show. It’d be great if after Mark’s death, Lecy’s Becky enters into a romantic relationship with Sarah Chalke!

I read about this (and the protests) and I’m excited to see how this character is written. One thing I’m really hoping for is that either they never won the lottery or they lost it all and they’re back to the beginning. We fans wanted good things for these characters, but that story line never fit them.
Isn’t Mark the name of David’s older brother? Does that mean Harris’ younger sibling is named after him?
I know the actor died, but are they saying the character did as well?
Boooo bad casting choice. She’s too old to play 14 and she will always be Debbie Gallagher. WIsh it was a fresh face we didn’t know…that’s what was so great about Darlene at that age.

I think it’s awesome to have the show come back. I can wait for it to air. It would be great to have all the original cast come back, but that is not totally possible. I think it’s crazy that a million mom’s are saying that they will boycott the show because of the character Mark is going to have. I think the show is touching on issues that some families are facing with their children. I’m all for what the show is headed for in Marks roll. What about the baby Roseann had in the last season? What about Jackie & child? Crystal & family? I know only 8 shows there may not be enough time for all the characters to return.
What about thier third child Garcia?
Jerry Garcia was their 4th child. Just FYI. They had Becky, Darlene, and DJ.
At the end of the show Roseanna did say she was writing a book so when the show comes back on and Dan is alive it will more then likely be that she just killed him off because she was mad about something its going to turn out great can’t wait until it comes back on
The ending was just a “behind the story” narration from the author. If we’re returning to the story, anything she wants can happen.
The only way I’d be interested is if Roseanne Barr has nothing to do with it.
I can’t wait to get back to Lanford. I have been watching the reruns for years and it will finally be great to see a new show with all the old gang. Love that show.
Why must we focus on Dan being brought back? I believe Roseanne Barr might have never thought the day would come for a reunion and just decided to wrapped it up with Dan dying. Since there is a reunion in the works, why not for the writers to just ignore that final airing and restart with a “living” Dan? It’s TV and I agree, they can do anything they want. I can’t wait!!!
